This report presents the findings of a computerised self-completion questionnaire included in the 2001 British Crime Survey to determine the nature and extent of inter-personal violence in England and Wales. The results of the survey show that inter-personal violence is widespread: approximately one third of the population has been affected by inter-personal violence at some time in their lives; one in twenty women have experienced serious sexual assault; and one in five women and one in ten men have been victims of domestic violence.
