Book Description
A Gallery of Combustion and Fire is the first book to provide a graphical perspective of the extremely visual phenomenon of combustion in full color. It is designed primarily to be used in parallel with, and supplement existing combustion textbooks that are usually in black and white, making it a challenge to visualize such a graphic phenomenon. Each image includes a description of how it was generated, which is detailed enough for the expert but simple enough for the novice. Processes range from small scale academic flames up to full scale industrial flames under a wide range of conditions such as low and normal gravity, atmospheric to high pressures, actual and simulated flames, and controlled and uncontrolled flames. Containing over 500 color images, with over 230 contributors from over 75 organizations, this volume is a valuable asset for experts and novices alike.

Characteristics and Analysis of Non-Flammable Polymers

Characteristics and Analysis of Non-Flammable Polymers PDF Author: T.R Crompton
Publisher: Smithers Rapra
ISBN: 1847354688

Pages : 170

Book Description
In recent years there has been an increasing demand for fire retardant versions of a range of plastics. Such applications are fire retardancy in vehicles, aircraft, manned space vehicles, marine and industrial applications such as electronics and a wide range of applications in the building industry including roofing and interior walls. Also in domestic applications such as furniture, clothes, bedding, upholstery and electrical goods. Fire retardancy in polymers can be achieved by either of three ways. Firstly there are forms of polymers, such as polytetrafluoroethylene, which are intrinsically fire retardant. The second type are rendered fire retardant by the inclusion of a suitable additive in the formulation. These include additives based on bromine, antimony, nitrogen phosphorus and silicon. An essential requirement for fire retardant polymers used in enclosed spaces is that they do not release any toxic products upon combustion. In this respect antinomy containing additives are going out of favour due to the release of toxic antimony volatiles upon combustion. Thirdly, introduction of intumescence into polymers by the introduction of suitable compounds is being increasingly used as a means of imparting fire retardancy in polymers. There exists a plethora of methods used to assess fire retardancy in polymers. These are discussed and summarised in this book. The book will be of interest not only to working in industry but also to design engineers and producers in the polymer fabrication industries.

Burning Man

Burning Man PDF Author: Jennifer Raiser
Publisher: Race Point Publishing
ISBN: 162788985X
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 256

Book Description
Experience the scorching art of Burning Man with this visual history, now updated through 2015! Every August, tens of thousands of participants gather to celebrate artistic expression in Nevada's barren Black Rock Desert. This vastly inhospitable location, called the playa, is the site of Burning Man, where, within a 9-mile fence, artists called Burners create a temporary city devoted to art and participation. Braving extreme elements, over two hundred wildly ambitious works of art are created and intended to delight, provoke, involve, or amaze. In 2015, over 70,000 people attended-the highest number ever allowed on the playa. As Burning Man has created new context, new categories of art have emerged since its inception, including Art to Ride, Collaborative Art, and of course, Art to Burn. Burning Man: Art on Fire is an authorized collection of some of the most stunning examples of Burning Man art, now updated to include the most recent installations, through 2015. Experience the amazing sculptures, art, stories, and interviews from the world's greatest gathering of artists. Get lost in a rich gallery of images showcasing the best examples of playa art with over 200 photos. Interviews with the artists reveal not only their motivation to create art specifically for Burning Man, but they also illuminate the dramatic efforts it took to create their pieces. Featuring the incredible photography of long-time Burning Man photographers, Sidney Erthal and Scott London, an introduction from Burning Man founder Larry Harvey, and a foreword from Will Chase, this stunning slipcased edition allows Burners and enthusiasts alike to have a piece of Burning Man with them all year around.
