Excerpt from American Druggist and Pharmaceutical Record, Vol. 43: A Semi-Monthly Illustrated Journal of Practical Pharmacy A careful search for morphine in Argemone Mexi cana by the above writer showed that morphine was not one of the constituents of this plant, but it does con tain berberine, protopine and potassium nitrate. There appeared to be some conflicting results as to the alkaloids contained in Eschscholtzia Californica. One investigator found three, another five and a third worker reported morphine. R. Fischer found that the plant contains seven alkaloids: a and y homo-cheli doniac; two unnamed alkaloids, a b, sanguinarine, chelerythrine and protopine.
