Igneous Petrology

Igneous Petrology PDF Author: Alexander R. McBirney
Publisher: Jones & Bartlett Learning
ISBN: 9780763734480
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 572

Book Description
The field of Igneous Petrology has evolved greatly in the past years. McBirney's new Third Edition, completely revised and updated, presents a modern and integrated survey of the geological and genetic relations of igneous rocks. It illustrates how modern geochemical and geophysical methods can be combined with field relations to understand the generational and compositional evolution of magmas.

Computational Economics and Econometrics

Computational Economics and Econometrics PDF Author: H. Amman
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401131627
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 170

Book Description
The field of Computational Economics is a fast growing area. Due to the limitations in analytical modeling, more and more researchers apply numerical methods as a means of problem solving. In tum these quantitative results can be used to make qualitative statements. This volume of the Advanced Series in Theoretical and Applied and Econometrics comprises a selected number of papers in the field of computational economics presented at the Annual Meeting of the Society Economic Dynamics and Control held in Minneapolis, June 1990. The volume covers ten papers dealing with computational issues in Econo metrics, Economics and Optimization. The first five papers in these proceedings are dedicated to numerical issues in econometric estimation. The following three papers are concerned with computational issues in model solving and optimization. The last two papers highlight some numerical techniques for solving micro models. We are sure that Computational Economics will become an important new trend in Economics in the coming decade. Hopefully this volume can be one of the first contributions highlighting this new trend. Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition

Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition PDF Author: Albert Nigrin
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 9780262140546
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 450

Book Description
In a simple and accessible way it extends embedding field theory into areas of machine intelligence that have not been clearly dealt with before. Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition takes the pioneering work in artificial neural networks by Stephen Grossberg and his colleagues to a new level. In a simple and accessible way it extends embedding field theory into areas of machine intelligence that have not been clearly dealt with before. Following a tutorial of existing neural networks for pattern classification, Nigrin expands on these networks to present fundamentally new architectures that perform realtime pattern classification of embedded and synonymous patterns and that will aid in tasks such as vision, speech recognition, sensor fusion, and constraint satisfaction. Nigrin presents the new architectures in two stages. First he presents a network called Sonnet 1 that already achieves important properties such as the ability to learn and segment continuously varied input patterns in real time, to process patterns in a context sensitive fashion, and to learn new patterns without degrading existing categories. He then removes simplifications inherent in Sonnet 1 and introduces radically new architectures. These architectures have the power to classify patterns that may have similar meanings but that have different external appearances (synonyms). They also have been designed to represent patterns in a distributed fashion, both in short-term and long-term memory.

Protocols for Neural Cell Culture

Protocols for Neural Cell Culture PDF Author: Sergey Fedoroff
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0896039021
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 366

Book Description
Sergey Fedoroff and Arleen Richardson extensively revise, update, and expand their best-selling and highly praised collection of readily reproducible neural tissue culture protocols. This 3rd edition adds 11 new chapters describing important new procedures for the isolation, growth, and characterization of neural stem cells and for the manipulation of glial progenitor cells, as well as are essential procedures for hippocampal and microglial slice cultures. Protocols for Neural Cell Culture: Third Edition is a richly augmented updating of the tried and tested laboratory procedures that have made earlier editions an indispensable reference and guide to neural cell culture and its disorders.

Unraveling the Safety Profile of Nanoscale Particles and Materials

Unraveling the Safety Profile of Nanoscale Particles and Materials PDF Author: Andreia Ferreira de Castro Gomes
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 9535139398
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 174

Book Description
As nanomaterials become increasingly present in our daily lives, pertinent questions regarding their safety arise. Nanomaterial risk assessment, as in other areas, directs much of the effort worldwide in defining guidelines that may be translated into national or international directives. Nanomaterials encompass different entities, from nanoparticles to nanostructured materials, with specific effects over cells, tissues, organisms and ecosystems depending on their biophysical characteristics. Such interactions will directly affect the impact of novel nanotechnologies. This book aims to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art in nanotoxicology, featuring the most important developments and critical issues regarding the use of and exposure to nanoparticles.

Standard Operational Procedures in Reproductive Medicine

Standard Operational Procedures in Reproductive Medicine PDF Author: Botros Rizk
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351983679
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 371

Book Description
Compiled by two experts in Reproductive Medicine, with contributions from internationally respected specialists, this innovative text lets the whole team in Reproductive Medicine get literally on the same page. Taking a cook-book approach to the operational procedures in the laboratory and in the clinic, it details what needs to be prepared in advance, what needs to be prepared earlier the same day, and what steps to take before, during, and after the procedure itself. This is an essential tool for ensuring all staff - whether experienced or starters - can be confident in their tasks and are in touch with what is expected of them and their colleagues.
