Occult records make no difference between the Atlantean ancestors of the old Greeks and those of the Romans. The blood of the true Roman was Hellenic from the outset. With the exception of a few Latin families, descendants of Umbro-Sabellian stock from the East, the bulk of the “Founders of Rome” were assorted remnants of primitive tribes. The old Romans were Hellenes in a new ethnological disguise; the still older Greeks, the real blood ancestors of the succeeding Romans, i.e., Aeolians, Dorians and Ionians, were the dwarfed and weak remnants of the Atlantean Race. The Aeolians were a small tribe of the last sub-race of Atlanteans that survived when Plato’s Poseidonis, the very last island of Atlantis, sank as recently as 12 millennia ago. A number of small islands scattered around Poseidonis had been vacated, in consequence of earthquakes long before the final catastrophe. One of the small tribes, the Aeolians, who had become islanders after emigrating from far Northern countries, had to leave their home again for fear of a deluge. Through their original connection with the emerging Aryan race, the old Aeolians were Atlanteans not only by the power of their long residence in the now submerged continent, covering some thousands of years, but also by the free intermingling of blood, i.e., intermarriage with the new race. They sailed from beyond the Pillars of Hercules (Atlantic Ocean), and settled in the land of Pyrrha or Red, the oldest name of Thessaly, which they named Aeolia. In that mythical age, Greece, Crete, Sicily, Sardinia, and many other islands of the Mediterranean were simply the faraway possessions or colonies of Atlantis. The legend that the ancient forefathers of the Thessalonians, so renowned for their magical feats, had come from behind the Pillars of Hercules, and the critical moment when the Epireans crossed the Pindus bent on expelling the black magicians from their home to Bœotia, make perfect sense to the Occultist. The fable of Prometheus relates to the extinction of the civilized portions of the Fourth Race, whom he saved partially as seed for future humanity. Its origin antecedes the destruction of Poseidonis by more than 70 millennia. There was a time when the Indian peninsula was at one end of the line, and South America at the other, connected by a belt of islands and continents. For Atlantis was not merely the name of one island but that of a whole continent, many of whose isles and islets have to this day survived. Consentes, Complices, and Novensiles, were disguised relics of the Atlanteans. Though the last island of Atlantis perished 12 millennia ago, the Aryan Race had begun evolving nearly 1000 millennia earlier.

The antiquity and universality of the Zodiac can be traced back to the earliest Theogonies. It was not the Greeks who invented the Zodiac, for the simple reason that they did not yet exist as a nation thirty-seven centuries B.C. The dodecahedron is a perfect number and one among many signs of the Zodiac that the Sun visits in twelve months. It was in honour of that sign that Moses divided his nation into twelve symbolical tribes. Berosus predicted future events by the Zodiac; and the time fixed by him for the conflagration of the world, and another for a deluge, comes at every renewal of the cycle of the sidereal year of 25,868 years. The Hindus date their Kali-Yuga from the great periodical conjunction of the planets at 3,100 before the birth of Christ. Diogenes Laërtius carried back the astronomical calculations of the Egyptians to 48,683 years before Alexander the Great. The cycle of Initiation was a reproduction in miniature of that great series of Cosmic changes to which astronomers have given the name of tropical or sidereal year. Just as, at the close of the cycle of the sidereal year (25,868 mortal years), the heavenly bodies return to the same relative positions as they occupied at its outset, so at the close of the cycle of Initiation the inner man may regain the pristine state of divine purity and knowledge, from which he set out on his cycle of terrestrial incarnations. The connection of the twelve Jewish patriarchs with the Zodiac is a tacit “divine” recognition of the “chosen people of God,” whose finger has purposely traced in heaven, from the beginning of creation, the numbers of these patriarchs. Even the banners of these tribes are claimed to have exhibited the same symbols as those of the zodiacal signs. In the universe of differentiated matter everything is mathematically co-ordinated and mutually related in its units. Replace God with of Karma, and he will become an Eastern axiom. Why see in the Pisces a direct reference to Jesus, one of several world-reformers, when that constellation shines as a symbol of all past, present, and future Spiritual Saviours who dispense light and dispel mental darkness? The Jews had evidently and undeniably borrowed their chronology from the Chaldeans, along with their gods. Of the 432,000 years of the Chaldean divine Dynasties they made 4,320 lunar years from the world’s creation to the Christian era; as to the Babylonian and Egyptian Gods, they transformed them as quietly and modestly into Patriarchs. The Zodiac existed hundreds of million of years before the Christian era. Each planetary conjunction is a climacteric year of humanity. All Sun-gods had been mystically connected with the constellation of Taurus, which was called “the great city of God and mother of revelations” and “the interpreter of the divine voice.” The ansated Egyptian cross or Tau, the Jaina cross or Svastika, and the Christian cross have all the same meaning. No peoples or nations, except the Christians, gave the significance to the Dragon that is given to it now. The Serpent was the symbol of Wisdom; and the Taurus, sacred in every Cosmogony, the symbol of physical or terrestrial generation. It was from the Hindu systems of astronomy that the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, and even the Jews derived their knowledge. It is the antiquity of the nations of the East which has erected their scientific fame. For patience accumulated knowledge; and prolonged experience produced wisdom. Time itself was their teacher; they knew the motions of the heavenly bodies during these intervals because they had seen them; and the duration of the Hindu people on earth is the cause of the fidelity of its records and the accuracy of its calculations. The descent and re-ascent of the human soul cannot be disconnected from the Zodiacal signs, and it feels more natural to believe in the mysterious sympathy between the metaphysical soul and the bright constellations, and in the influence of the latter on the former, than in the absurd notion that the creators of Heaven and Earth have placed in Heaven the types of twelve vicious Jews. In esoteric philosophy Patriarchs are the progenitors of the human race, the “Mind-born Sons” of Brahmā. They are the nursery and fountainhead of human beings. This is the occult meaning of the Biblical Patriarchs, of their genealogy, and of their descendants dividing among themselves the earth. First 7 are mentioned, then 10, 21, and so on. The Jewish Patriarchs were pastors, not priests.

Who were those dark-skinned, mysterious Chaldeans? Were they Chaldean Vedas or Vedic Chaldees? The Chaldeans were a pastoral nation and a priestly caste initiated in and entirely devoted to the sciences of Astrology and Magic. They were the aborigines of Western Europe and our distant ancestors — black and far blacker, perchance, than any of those we now look upon as the races to us inferior — the Asiatic Ethiopians! Eusebius declares that the Ethiopians came from India. Arabia was the ancient Ethiopia, and Arabi were placed at the mouth of the Indus, on the western bank. They preceded the Turano-Akkadians, who themselves anticipated the Hamitic nation brought along by Nimrod. Though dark-skinned, the Chaldeans were not necessarily Negroes, nor even Hamites. The dead letter of Chaldean Magic — useless and absurd incantations, ceremonial prayers and talismans — have passed part and parcel under the guise of exorcisms, holy water, ceremonies, pope-blessed amulets, and images of angels and saints, into the Catholic Church. The Chaldeans were a pre-Babylonian Brotherhood of Hierophants from Kashmir, Tibet, Mongolia, Tartary, China, and India. They spread westward, from the plateau of Pamir, cradle of the Elect of humanity’s Fifth Race. Occultism is intimately connected with Chaldean Wisdom, and its records show the forefathers of the Aryan Brahmans at the head of arts and sciences as Astronomers and Seers, confabulating with the stars, and receiving instructions from the concealed deity. Their sanctity of life and great learning made their name for long ages a synonym of Divine Science. The sublime profundity of the Magian precepts being beyond the reach of modern materialistic thought, the Chaldeans are accused of Sabaeanism and Sun-worship, cults which were simply those of the uneducated masses. Clemens Alexandrinus testifies to the existence of 30,000 additional volumes of the Books of Thoth, placed in the library of the tomb of Ozymandias, over the entrance of which were inscribed the words, “A Cure for the Soul.” Extant fragments of works by Mercury Trismegistus, Berosus, Pherecydes of Syros, etc., are rolls that escaped the holocaust of the great Alexandrian Library. More! The writings of the elusive Hermes Trismegistus spring from the same fountain and source: for they are the faithful echo and expression of the most ancient verities. Scattered fragments are being discovered in the sanctuaries of Chaldea, India, Phoenicia, Egypt, and Central Asia. The Aryan Chaldeo-Tibetan Wisdom-Religion and the trans-Himalayan Esoteric Doctrine are one and the same. The Chaldeans were a hieratic caste of Hindu-Brahmans, now called Aryans; their vernacular language was the Sanskrit of the Vedas; they instructed the Babylonians in the Mysteries and taught them the sacerdotal or Mystery-language which, even today, is used by Hindu fakirs and initiated Brahmans in their magical evocations. The population of Ur of the Chaldeans, where Magism flourished before the days of Abraham, is related with those of Central and North America. The cauldron of Christian Trinity has always been North-East of the Indus River, where the Chaldeans worshipped the trinity of Deus-Lunus manifesting in three phases, and completing the quaternary with the fourth. And since Babylonia was situated on the way of the great stream of the Hindu emigration, its peoples were the first to benefit. The Chaldæan Moon-Worship, however, is likely to mislead the profane student who fails to grasp the esoteric dimensions of archaic symbols. The pioneers of humanity’s Fifth Root-Race, the Aryan, came out of Central Asia. The so-called “Akkadians” were no more a “Turanian” race than any of the modern British people are the mythical ten tribes of Israel, so conspicuously present in the Bible and yet absent from history. Belonging virtually through their original connection with the Aryan, Central Asian stock, the old Aeolians were Atlanteans, not only in virtue of their long residence in the now submerged continent, but also by intermarriage with them. The classification of ancient nations into Akkadians, Turanians, Semites, etc., is at best arbitrary. The word “Chaldean” does not refer merely to a native or an inhabitant of Chaldea, but to “Chaldeism” itself, the oldest science of Astrology and Occultism. The Zoroastrians are the true heirs to Chaldean wisdom, “the light which shineth in darkness,” though modern “darkness comprehended it not,” though today’s Parsis know nothing of it now. The Aryan and Arhat doctrines agree perfectly in substance. The secret doctrine of the Jewish Kabbalists is merely a late offshoot of these, suggests Subba Row. As the Vedas came from the Manasarovara Lake in Tibet, and the Brahmans from the far North, the trans-Himalayan esoteric doctrine is Aryan Chaldeo-Tibetan Universal Wisdom-Religion, confirms Blavatsky. The country called Si-dzang by the Chinese, and Tibet by Western geographers, is mentioned in the oldest books preserved in the province of Fokien, as the great seat of occult learning in archaic ages. Emperor Yu the Great established a system of theocracy, the first one in China to unite ecclesiastical power with temporal authority from Si-dzang. That system was the same as that of the old Egyptians and Chaldees, has existed in the Br?hmanical period in India, and exists now in Tibet. Nebu is an abstract quality personified. It is man’s seventh and highest principle, and the synthetic attribute of Seven Chaldean Gods — the Planetary Spirits. By the powers of goodness in man and nature, the Chaldean Magi performed the most wonderful miracles. Unlike the Roman Catholics, who invented a Devil endowed with a power equalling that of the Supreme Deity, and who allegedly transforms himself into wolves, snakes, and dogs to satisfy his lust and procreate monsters. Chaldean Magic was based upon a profound knowledge of the powers of simples and minerals. It was only when the Theurgist needed divine help in spiritual and earthly matters that he sought direct communication with pure spiritual beings. To dare, to know, to will, and to remain silent, were their constant rules; to be beneficent, unselfish, and unpretending, were some of their spontaneous impulses. All the discoveries of modern Astronomy were contained within the secret observatories and Initiation Halls of the temples of old India and Egypt. It is in them that the Chaldean made his calculations, revealing to the world of the profane no more than it was fit to receive. Cyprian of Antioch, a penitent sorcerer, had studied in Chaldea the true power of the air, saw the planets as dissimilar as the plants on earth, understood that stars that were like armies ranged in battle order, and learnt the Chaldean division of Ether into 365 parts. The Kabbalah of the Jews is but the distorted echo of the Secret Doctrine of the Chaldeans, The Mysteries of the Jews are identical with those of the Pagan Greeks, who took them from the Egyptians, who borrowed them from the Chaldeans, who got them from the Aryans, from the Atlanteans, and so on, far beyond the misty days of the Fourth Race. The Greeks learned Occult Cosmology from the Egyptians, and the latter from the Chaldeans, who had been the pupils of Brahmans of the Esoteric School. A small tribe of presumably Egyptian runaway slaves obtained their primitive ideas about creation from Moses, who compiled their Genesis and first cosmogonic traditions from the Chaldeo-Akkadian account. Their Kabbalistic literature can be traced only from the time of the Captivity, yet from the Pentateuch down to the Talmud the documents of that literature were always written in a kind of Mystery-language — a series of symbolical records which the Jews had copied from the Egyptian and the Chaldean Sanctuaries, only adapting them to their own national history, if history it can be called. Hebrew is considered to be a very old language, and yet there exists no trace of it anywhere on the old monuments, not even in Chaldea. The Hebrew known to the philologists does not date earlier than 500 BC and its characters belong to a far later period still. The original and authentic Gospel of Matthew was written in the Chaldaic language but with Hebrew letters, says Jerome. The Jewish Talmudists and the Christian Fathers borrowed many occult terms, such as Virtue, Iao, Abraxas, etc., from the Chaldeans. In the Chaldean or Jewish Kabbalah, Kosmos is divided into seven worlds: Original, Intelligible, Celestial, Elementary, Lesser (Astral), Infernal (Kama-loka or Hades), and Temporal (of man). The old Chaldeans were a Brotherhood of pre-Babylonian Philosophers and Theurgists. Their knowledge and teachings emerged much later in a caste of learned Kabbalists. To sum up, the Kabbalah of the profane Jews is but the distorted echo of the Secret Doctrine of the Chaldeans. The Chaldean Book of Numbers, now in the possession of some Persian Sufis, is the only key to the real Kabbalah. If Moses knew the primitive and universal language of the Initiates, as did every Egyptian priest, and was thus acquainted with the numerical system on which it was based, he is most likely the author of Genesis and other “scrolls.” When the Asmonean period began, the chief supporters of Law were called Asideans or Kasdim (Chaldeans), and afterward Pharisees or Pharsi (Parsis). Following successive Assyrian and Persian colonisations, the early plebeian Israelites (originally Canaanites and Phoenicians) were modified to Asideans and Pharisees, and then to asserters of sacerdotal rule (Sadducees) as contradistinguished from rabbinical. The Pharisees were lenient and intellectual; the Sadducees, bigoted and cruel. With two Appendices, on “The Testimony of Theodas,” and “ Searching for the Lost Word.”

The power of names is great, and was known since the first men were instructed by the divine masters. As Solon had studied it, he translated the Atlantean names into names devised by himself. The so-called barbaric peoples, the physical and political representatives of the nascent Aryan race speaking a now extinct Aryan language that stood before this division of nations, had a higher civilization as a root race and its sub-races than has yet been found in the geological strata. We, who place the origin of the Pelasgians far beyond the Biblical ditch of historic chronology, have reasons to believe that the “most barbarous language” mentioned by Herodotus was simply the primitive and now extinct pure Aryan tongue that preceded the Vedic Sanskrit. Pelasgians were a remnant of an Atlantean sub-race. The Aeolic was neither the language of Æschylus, nor the Attic, nor even the old speech of Homer — it was Vedic Sanskrit. In old Greece barbarous names were sacred and it was unlawful to change them. Yet, the Greeks got in the habit of twisting primeval names. They even besmirched their noble ancestry by belittling their Hierophants as Troglodytes. Three Hierarchs represented Budhistical and Brahmanical power in Greece. While the political power of Sri-B’dho-Lemos or Triptolemos was formidable, the cave-dwelling Budhist Priests or Sroo-cula-dutæ, Lords of the Cave, who protected their secret doctrines from profanation, are today belittled as Troglodytai. Further examples of the profound Brahmanical influence in Greece are the Goghos or Cow-Killer that became Kakos, i.e., bad. Soo-Bhoo-ya or one engaged in abstract meditation became Sophos, i.e., Wise. Despatis or Land-Lord became Despotes, thus marking the transition from Oligarchic privilege to Democratic tyranny.

The old Greeks and Romans were the last sub-race of the Atlantean Race, already swallowed up in one of the early sub-races of the Aryan stock, one that had been gradually spreading over the continent and islands of Europe, as soon as they had begun to emerge from the seas. Of a single sub-race of the Aryan Race of Humanity, the progenitors of the Egyptians, Phœnicians, Greeks, and the northern stocks had emigrated from the lofty plateau of Asia westward and settled in the emerging new lands of Europe. Phœnicians were Cyclopes, a one-eyed race of giants. Millennia later, other Atlantean offshoots began invading the new continent. There were wars in which the newcomers were defeated and fled in faraway lands. The Trojan War typifies a historical event that survived in the memory of men as legend. It took place 8 millennia ago. Occult records make no difference between the Atlantean ancestors of the old Greeks and those of the Romans. While profane ethnologists rely solely on relics, when available, the Occultist traces the auric shades and colour gradations of the living man back to his parent stem and tribe. The Egyptians were much older than the Greeks. The Egyptian Zodiac is at least 75 millennia old; the Greek, 17 millennia old.

Zoroaster is a generic title; so is Thoth-Hermes. Prophet Isaiah lived 200 years earlier than Cyrus (from 760 to 710 BCE) while the great Persian King began his reign in 559. The Jews were simply a Persian colony imbued with Magianism and Zoroastrianism. Zoroaster, the Sage of remote Antiquity, is transformed by Christian bigots into a “slave of Daniel.” The key to understanding the Avesta lies concealed at the bottom of the rightly interpreted Kabbalah. Kabbalah is the record of doctrines received by the Chaldean Magi and the initiated Jews from Zarathushtra whose teachings, on account of their profound philosophy, were meant only for the few. Physically and intellectually, we may progress and grow in strength and sophistication, but lose daily in spirituality and wisdom. He who would penetrate the secrets of Fire, and unite with It, must first unite himself soul and body to Earth (his mother) to Humanity (his sister), and to Science (his daughter). The ancient name of Persepolis was Ista-Char, or Throne of the Sun, the place sacred to Ista or Esta. Eventually, Ista/Esta became Vesta, to whom the Romans burnt inextinguishable fire. The fire burning in the sacred altar meant heavenly truth, and the smoke of incense waving into the faces of the worshippers imparted the knowledge thereof. When the Kalki-Avatara appears, seated upon a white horse, our sufferings in this world will come to an end. The white horse is animating principle of the Sun; its four legs represent for the four Root-races of the world: black, russet, yellow, and white. The Chinese clothed their four orders of priests in black, red, yellow, and white; John saw these very colours in the symbolic horses of the Revelation. The four Zoroastrian ages are the four Root-races, the progression of the human life-wave on any globe of a planetary chain. The colours of each of the four races are: gold for the Mongolian, silver for the Caucasian, brass for the Red Indian, iron for the Negro. There are seven Ahuru-asters, or spiritual teachers of Ahura-Mazdha (an office corrupted later into Guru-asters and Zuru-asters) from Zera-Ishtar, the title of the Chaldean or Magian priests. The last one was the Zaratusht of the Desatir, the thirteenth prophet, and the seventh of that name. He flourished between 1200 and 1300 BCE.

Ambitious scholiasts, men of a small sub-race born but yesterday, and one of the latest issues of the Aryan stock, took upon themselves to overturn the religious thought of the world, and succeeded. For nearly two thousand years they impressed thinking Humanity with the belief in the existence of Satan. Plato merged the history of Atlantis, which covered several million years, into one event which he located on one small island about the size of Ireland, whereas the priests spoke of Atlantis as a continent vast as all Asia and Libya put together. The statements of Herodotus that the Atlantes who were vegetarians, whose sleep was never disturbed by dreams, and who cursed the sun because his excessive heat scorched and tormented them, are all based on moral and psychic facts and not on physiological disturbance. Atlas is the old continents of Lemuria and Atlantis, combined and personified in one symbol. He supports the sacred islands and continents on its shoulders. The poets attribute to Atlas a superior wisdom and a thorough acquaintance with the depths of the ocean because both Lemuria and Atlantis bore races instructed by divine masters; and both were transferred to the bottom of the seas, where they now slumber until their next reappearance above the waters. The feet of Atlas tread the earth while his shoulders support the celestial vault, an allusion to the gigantic peaks of the Lemurian and Atlantean continents. Proud Atlas, having sunk one third of its size into the waters, its two parts remained as a heirloom of Atlantis. Atlas and the Teneriffe Peak, now two of the dwarfed relics of the lost continents, were thrice as lofty during the day of Lemuria and twice as high in that of Atlantis. Alchemy had its birth-place in Atlantis during the Fourth Race, and had only its renaissance in Egypt. So secret was the knowledge of the last islands of Atlantis, on account of the superhuman powers possessed by its inhabitants (the last direct descendants of Divine Kings) that to divulge its whereabouts and existence was punished by death. To the uninitiated profane the dead letter was religion, and interpretation a sacrilege. Dead letter could neither edify nor uplift him. But to initiated philosopher Hesiod’s Theogony is as historical as any history can be. Poseidon-Neptune, the grandson of Ouranos, is the Hindu Idaspati, and identical with Narayana, the mover in (not on) the waters. Ouranos was the first astronomical teacher of men because he is one of the seven Dhyani-Chohans overseeing that second race. Ouranos gave birth to the Saturnian Titans of the Third Race, and it is they who mutilated him. For when creation by divine will was superseded by physical procreation, they needed Ouranos no more. Poseidon-Neptune and Nereus, who fathered the Nereids, are one: the former is the ruler or spirit of Atlantis before the beginning of its submersion; the latter, after. Poseidon is the titanic strength of the living race; Nereus, its spirit reincarnated in the subsequent Fifth or Aryan Race. Poseidon is of the earth earthy, strong and self-asserting, sensual, jealous, and vindictive, because he symbolises the spirit of the Atlantean Race that lives above the surface of the seas and which is composed of giants, the children of Eurymedon, the race that fathered Polyphemus and the one-eyed Cyclopes. The key to the mysteries of the Christian as well as of the Grecian Theogonies and Sciences, is the Secret Doctrine of the prehistoric nations. The standing army of Atlantis is given as upwards of a million men; its navy as 1,200 ships plus 240,000 men. Such statements are quite inapplicable to Poseidonis, a small island state of about the size of Ireland! Ethnologically, the seven daughters of Atlas or Atlantides are the seven sub-races, as they are credited with having married gods and having become mothers of famous heroes, the founders of many nations and cities. Astronomically, the Atlantides have become the seven Pleiades. Esoterically, the two are connected with the destinies of nations, as shaped by past events according to Karmic law. The Secret Doctrine shows that the founders of the Root-Races have all been connected with the Polar Star. The Aryan race was born and developed in the far north, however, after the sinking of Atlantis its tribes emigrated south into Asia. Hence Prometheus is son of Asia, and Deukalion, his son, the Greek Noah. Cyclopes, the beloved priests of Apollo, were the last three sub-races of the northern race, the Lemurians. The single eye stands for the all-penetrating spiritual eye, which atrophied when their pastoral life evolved into the sensual culture of the Atlanteans, only to be replaced by the outward-looking eyes of lust and greed. Odysseus-Ulysses belongs to the cycle of the heroes of the Atlantean Fourth Race. His adventure with the pastoral giants is an allegory of the gradual passage from the Cyclopean civilization of stone and colossal buildings to the sophisticated culture and physical proclivities of the Atlanteans. That other allegory, which makes Apollo kill the Cyclops to avenge the death of his son Asklepios (by Zeus with a lightning bolt fashioned by Cyclopes) refers to the Hyperborean Arimaspian Cyclopes, the last race endowed with the Wisdom-eye. In his occult aspect, Apollo is patron of Number Seven. Cosmically and astronomically, he is the Sun personified. Psychically and spiritually, his significance is far more important. The Greeks naturalised the gods they “borrowed” and made Hellenes of them, and the moderns helped them. To make a difference between Lemuria and Atlantis, the ancient writers referred to the latter as the northern or Hyperborean Atlantis, and to the former as the Southern one. Geologically, Leto-Latona is the Hyperborean Continent and its Race. The quarrel of Latona with Niobe, the Atlantean race, allegorizes the history of the two continents. Latona-Lemuria is transformed into Niobe-Atlantis, over which her son Apollo, or the Sun, reigns with an iron rod, truly, since Herodotus makes the Atlantes curse his too great heat. The Lemuro-Atlantean, is the first physical race, though the third and the fourth in number. The Lemurians, as also the early Atlanteans, were divided into two opposing fraternities, the Sons of Darkness, and the Sons of Light. There were terrible battles between the two. The island of Delos, the Asteria of the Greek mythology, was never in Greece, a country which, in its day, was not yet in existence, not even in its molecular form. Diodorus Siculus and Pliny place Delos in the Northern seas. One calls it royal; the other, the royal island of gods. Because the divine dynasties of the kings of Atlantis proceeded from that place. Occult records and linguistic evidence indicate that gods, religious beliefs, and myths have all come from the north, which was also the cradle of physical man. The Hyperboreans, the Cimmerians, the Arimaspoi, and the Scythians were descendants of the last Atlantean sub-races. But they were neither known to, nor communicating with, the Greeks. The Pelasgians, a remnant of an Atlantean sub-race, were certainly one of the root-races of future Greece. Noah’s Deluge is astronomical and allegorical but not mythical. However, the allegory about the antediluvian giants and their achievements in sorcery is no myth. Poseidon is not only the personation of the spirit and race of Atlantis, but also of the vices of the Nephilim giants of Genesis. The bestiality of the Satyrs was real, not allegorical. Esoteric records show these hairy Satyrs to be the last descendants of those Lemuro-Atlantean races, which begot children on female animals, of species now long extinct. They paid a very heavy price for their unnatural union. The whole globe is convulsed periodically; and has been so convulsed, since the appearance of the First Race, four times. Yet, though the whole face of the earth was transformed thereby each time, the conformation of the Arctic and Antarctic poles has but little altered. Continents perish in turn by fire and water: either through earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, or by sinking and the great displacement of waters. The three “imprisoned” polar giants, Briareus, Kottos, and Gyges, are three polar lands which have changed form several times, at each new cataclysm or disappearance of one continent to make room for another. When lesser gods and titans rebelled against Zeus, he hurled Lemuria amid thunder and lightning to the bottom of the seas, so as to make room for Atlantis, which was to be submerged and perish in its turn. The geological upheaval and deluge of Thessaly was a repetition on a small scale of the great cataclysm; and remaining impressed on the memory of the Greeks, was merged by them into, and confused with, the general fate of Atlantis. All continents are formed from North to South. And the tallest men are those in Northern countries, while the smallest are Southern Asiatics. Thus also the giants of Atlantis, as well as the Titans of Hesiod, are all Northerners.

Ancient India and Egypt were the oldest group of nations. The Egyptian Pyramids antedate the upheaval of the Sahara and other deserts. But there is no comparison between the Egypt of old, with its perfection of art, science, and religion, its glorious cities and monuments, its swarming The Egyptian art of writing was perfect and complete from the very first. It was used as early as the days of Menes, the protomonarch. Before Greece came into existence, the arts, with the Egyptians, were already ripe and old. Ancient Greece owes everything to Egypt. The Greeks learned all they knew, including the sacred services of the temple, from the Egyptians and, because of that, their principal temples were consecrated to Egyptian divinities. Orpheus was a disciple of Moses. Pythagoras, Herodotus, and Plato owe their philosophy to the same temples in which the wise Solon was instructed by the priests. If Chaldea, Assyria, and Babylon presented stupendous and venerable antiquities reaching far back into the night of time, Persia was not without her wonders of a later date. The Persian Empire was truly the garden of the world. Ecbatana, the cool summer retreat of the Persian Kings, was defended by seven encircling walls of hewn and polished blocks, the interior ones in succession of increasing height, and of different colours, in astrological accordance with the seven planets. The sublime profundity of the Magian precepts is beyond the reach of modern materialistic thought. Even the much admired Etruscan paintings and decorative borders, found on Greek vases, were but copies from Egyptian vases. Their figures can be seen on the walls of a tomb of the age of Amenhotep I, a period at which Greece was not even in existence. Egypt, grown grey in her wisdom, was so secure of her acquirements that she did not invite admiration and cared no more for the opinion of the flippant Greek than we do today for that of a Fiji islander. For she was much older and grander than Greece. The Egyptian Zodiac is at least 75 millennia old; the Greek, 17 millennia old. Egypt pressed her own grapes, made wine, and brewed her own beer. The superiority of the Egyptian lyre over the Grecian is an admitted fact. Pythagoras learned music in Egypt and made a regular science of it in Italy. The lyre, harp, and flute were used for sacred concerts; for festive occasions they had the guitar, the single and double pipes, and castanets; for troops, and during military service, they had trumpets, tambourines, drums, and cymbals. Amenoph II, who reigned at Thebes long before the Trojan war, is represented as playing chess with the queen. In India the game is known to have been played at least 5,000 years ago. The Egyptians had their dentists and ophthalmologists, and no doctor was allowed to practice more than one specialty. Phoenician sails whitened the Indian Ocean, as well as the Norwegian fiords. The Phœnicians were the earliest navigators of the world; they were Cyclopes, a one-eyed race of giants; they founded most of the colonies of the Mediterranean, and visited the Arctic regions, whence they brought accounts of eternal days without a night, which Homer has preserved for us in the Odyssey. Homer’s Odyssey surpasses in fantastic nonsense all the tales of the Arabian Nights combined; nevertheless, many of his myths are now proved to be something else besides the creation of the old poet’s fancy. Bel and the Dragon, Apollo and Python, Osiris and Typhon are all one and the same, and have travelled far and wide. The religious customs of the Mexicans, Peruvians, and other American races are identical with those of the ancient Phœnicians, Babylonians, and Egyptians. There was a time when Asia, Europe, Africa, and America were covered with the temples sacred to the Sun and the Dragons. It is true that the Phœnicians represented the Sun under the image of a Dragon; but so did all the other people who symbolized their Sun-gods. Initiatory rites and ceremonies were performed in crypts, catacombs, and temples interlinked by subterranean passages running in every direction. The perfect identity of rites, ceremonies, traditions, and even the names of deities, among Mexicans, Babylonians, and Egyptians, is ample proof of pre-historic South America being peopled by a colony which mysteriously found its way across the Atlantic. We believe the story of the Atlantis to be no fable, and maintain that at different epochs of the past huge islands, and even continents, existed where now there is but a wild waste of waters. At a remote epoch a traveller could traverse what is now the Atlantic Ocean, almost the entire distance by land, crossing in boats from one island to another, where narrow straits then existed. There never was, nor can there be, more than one universal religion. The Aztecs resembled the ancient Egyptians in civilization and refinement. Among both peoples magic, or the arcane natural philosophy, was cultivated to the highest degree. All ancient religious monuments, in whatever land, are the expression of the same identical thought, the key to which is in the Esoteric Doctrine. The grandiose Hindu ruins of Ellora in the Dekkan, the Mexican Chichén-Itzá in Yucatán, and the still grander ruins of Copán in Guatemala, were built by peoples moved by the same religious ideas, and who had reached an equal level of highest civilization in arts and sciences. The ruins of the past Egyptian splendour deserve no higher eulogium than those of Siam. If the same workmen did not lay the courses in both countries we must at least think that the secret of this matchless wall-building was equally known to the architects of every land. Nagkon-Wat is grander than anything left to us by Athens or Rome. On its sculptured walls there are several repetitions of Dagon, the man-fish of the Babylonians, of the Kabeirian gods of Samothrace, as well as of the reputed father of the Kabeiroi, Vulcan, with his bolts and implements. In another place we find Vulcan, recognizable by his hammer and pincers, but under the shape of a monkey, as usually represented by the Egyptians. The Ramayana itself, the famous epic poem, is but the original of Homer’s Iliad. The beautiful Paris, carrying off Helen, looks very much like Ravana, king of the giants, eloping with Sita, Rama’s wife. Herodotus assures us that the Trojan heroes and gods date in Greece only from the days of the Iliad. In such a case even Hanuman, the monkey-god, would be but Vulcan in disguise. Many historians claim that the Jews were similar or identical with the ancient Phœnicians, however, the latter were beyond any doubt an Æthiopian race. If the Jews were in the twilight of history Phœnicians, the latter may be traced to the nations who used the old Sanskrit language. All ancient temples and buildings belong to the age of Hermes Trismegistus. And however comparatively modern or ancient the temples may seem, their mathematical proportions correspond perfectly with the Egyptian religious edifices. The cold, stony lips of the once vocal Memnon, and of these hardy sphinxes, keep their secrets well. Who will unseal them? Who of our modern, materialistic dwarfs and unbelieving Sadducees will dare to lift the Veil of Isis? The Babylonian Nebo, the Thoth of Memphis, the Greek Hermes, were all gods of Esoteric Wisdom. Ammonius Saccas declared that all moral and practical wisdom was contained in the Books of Thoth-Hermes Trismegistus. Thoth means a college, school, or assembly, and the works of that name were identical with the doctrines of the sages of the far East. Thoth-Hermes, therefore, never was the name of a man, but a generic title. It is the Voice of Egypt’s Great Hierophants that speaks. Even in the time of Plato, Hermes was already identified with the Thoth of the Egyptians. But in reality Thoth-Hermes is simply the personification of the sacred teachings of Egypt’s sacerdotal caste. The first hour for the disappearance of the Mysteries struck on the clock of the Races with the Macedonian Conqueror. The Adepts of Egypt were then compelled to recede further and further from the laurels of conquest into the most hidden spots of the globe. And her sacred Scribes and Hierophants became wanderers upon the face of the earth. A dire prophecy about today’s Egypt, from a passage from the Asclepian Dialogue ascribed to Hermes Trismegistus: “Egypt shall be forsaken when divinity returns back from earth to heaven.”
