Global Trends: Paradox of Progress

Global Trends: Paradox of Progress PDF Author: National Intelligence Council and Office of the Director of National Intelligence
Publisher: Government Printing Office
ISBN: 9780160936142
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 240

Book Description
This edition of Global Trends revolves around a core argument about how the changing nature of power is increasing stress both within countries and between countries, and bearing on vexing transnational issues. The main section lays out the key trends, explores their implications, and offers up three scenarios to help readers imagine how different choices and developments could play out in very different ways over the next several decades. Two annexes lay out more detail. The first lays out five-year forecasts for each region of the world. The second provides more context on the key global trends in train. This report involves extensive research and consultations with people inside the US government and around the world. Their team made extensive use of analytic simulations to explore future trajectories and developed multiple scenarios to describe how key uncertainties and emerging trends might combine to produce alternative futures. Foreign policy analysts, lawmakers, and students participating in global studies, politics of peace and conflict undergraduate level courses and statistics may be interested in this work. Book Description
"Teacher is King of himself and servant of mankind." - Henry Van Dyke. Teacher is the pivot of the entire Educational process or activity. With good leadership and appropriate teaching aids, the teacher's effectiveness can be enhanced. Our vision in this globalized world is one in which the pursuit of learning is valued by individuals and by authorities all over the world not as a means to an end but as end in itself. How much will be expected and demanded from teachers largely depends on them whether this vision can come true. Teachers have a crucial role to play in preparing the learners not only to face the future with confidence but to build it with purpose and responsibility. The importance of the role of the teacher as an agent of change, promoting understanding and tolerance, has never been more obvious than today. It is likely to become even more in this Globalized era. The need for change is required from narrow nationalist to universalism, from ethnic and cultural prejudice to tolerance in various manifestations. The fundamental challenge before us is Global Trends and New Scenario of Teacher Education which impacts in our lives in different ways and meanings.

Book Description
Global Trends 2025: A Transformed World was prepared by the National Intelligence Council to stimulate strategic thinking about the future by identifying key trends, the factors that drive them, where they seem to be headed, and how they might interact. It uses fictionalized scenarios to illustrate some of the many ways in which the drivers examined in the study (e.g., globalization, demography, the rise of new powers, the decay of international institutions, climate change, and the geopolitics of energy) may interact to generate challenges and opportunities for future decisionmakers. The study as a whole is more a description of the factors likely to shape events than a prediction of what will actually happen. By examining a small number of variables that we judge probably will have a disproportionate influence on future events and possibilities, the study seeks to help readers to recognize signposts indicating where events are headed and to identify opportunities for policy intervention to change or lock in the trajectories of specific developments. Among the messages we hope to convey are: "If you like where events seem to be headed, you may want to take timely action to preserve their positive trajectory. If you do not like where they appear to be going, you will have to develop and implement policies to change their trajectory." For example, the report's examination of the transition out of dependence on fossil fuels illustrates how different trajectories will entail different consequences for specific countries. An even more important message is that leadership matters, no trends are immutable, and that timely and well-informed intervention can decrease the likelihood and severity of negative developments and increase the likelihood of positive ones. Global Trends 2025 is the fourth installment in the National Intelligence Council-led effort to identify key drivers and developments likely to shape world events a decade or more in the future.
