Book Description
Knowledge existing in modern information systems usually comes from many sources and is mapped in many ways. There is a real need for representing “knowledge pieces” as rather universal objects that should fit to multi-purpose a- ing systems. According to great number of information system’s tasks, knowledge representation is more or less detailed (e.g. some level of its granularity is - sumed). The main goal of this paper is to present chosen aspects of expressing granularity of knowledge implemented in intelligent systems. One of the main r- sons of granularity phenomena is diversification of knowledge sources, therefore the next section is devoted to this issue. 2. Heterogeneous Knowledge as a Source for Intelligent Systems Knowledge, the main element of so-called intelligent applications and systems, is very often heterogeneous. This heterogeneity concerns the origin of knowledge, its sources as well as its final forms of presentation. In this section the selected c- teria of knowledge differentiation will be presented, in the context of potential sources of knowledge acquisition. In Fig. 1 an environment of intelligent systems is shown, divided into different knowledge sources for the system. Fig. 1. Potential knowledge sources for intelligent information/reasoning system. Source: own elaboration based on (Mach, 2007) p. 24.

Book Description
This volume comprises the 6th IFIP International Conference on Intelligent Infor- tion Processing. As the world proceeds quickly into the Information Age, it encounters both successes and challenges, and it is well recognized nowadays that intelligent information processing provides the key to the Information Age and to mastering many of these challenges. Intelligent information processing supports the most - vanced productive tools that are said to be able to change human life and the world itself. However, the path is never a straight one and every new technology brings with it a spate of new research problems to be tackled by researchers; as a result we are not running out of topics; rather the demand is ever increasing. This conference provides a forum for engineers and scientists in academia and industry to present their latest research findings in all aspects of intelligent information processing. This is the 6th IFIP International Conference on Intelligent Information Processing. We received more than 50 papers, of which 35 papers are included in this program as regular papers and 4 as short papers. We are grateful for the dedicated work of both the authors and the referees, and we hope these proceedings will continue to bear fruit over the years to come. All papers submitted were reviewed by two referees. A conference such as this cannot succeed without help from many individuals who contributed their valuable time and expertise.

Intelligent Systems for Information Processing: From Representation to Applications

Intelligent Systems for Information Processing: From Representation to Applications PDF Author: B. Bouchon-Meunier
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080525652
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 488

Book Description
Intelligent systems are required to enhance the capacities being made available to us by the internet and other computer based technologies. The theory necessary to help providing solutions to difficult problems in the construction of intelligent systems are discussed. In particular, attention is paid to situations in which the available information and data may be imprecise, uncertain, incomplete or of a linguistic nature. Various methodologies to manage such information are discussed. Among these are the probabilistic, possibilistic, fuzzy, logical, evidential and network-based frameworks. One purpose of the book is not to consider these methodologies separately, but rather to consider how they can be used cooperatively to better represent the multiplicity of modes of information. Topics in the book include representation of imperfect knowledge, fundamental issues in uncertainty, reasoning, information retrieval, learning and mining, as well as various applications. Key Features: • Tools for construction of intelligent systems • Contributions by world leading experts • Fundamental issues and applications • New technologies for web searching • Methods for modeling uncertain information • Future directions in web technologies • Transversal to methods and domains

Internet-based Intelligent Information Processing Systems

Internet-based Intelligent Information Processing Systems PDF Author: Robert J. Howlett
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 981238281X
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 442

Book Description
The Internet/WWW has made it possible to easily access quantities of information never available before. However, both the amount of information and the variation in quality pose obstacles to the efficient use of the medium. Artificial intelligence techniques can be useful tools in this context. Intellignet systems can be applied to searching the Internet and data-mining, interpreting Internet-derived material, the human-Web interface, remote condition monitoring and many other areas. This volume presents the latest research on the interaction between intelligent systems (neural networks, adaptive and connectionist paradigms, fuzzy and rule-based systems, intelligent agents) and the Internet/WWW. It surveys both the employment of intelligent systems to facilitate and enhance the use of the Internet, and applications where the Internet is a channel through which intelligent techniques are applied. Contents: Search and Resource Discovery Techniques; Adaptive Content Mapping for Internet Navigation; Flexible Queries to XML Information; Agent-Based Hypermedia Models; Self-Organizaing Neural Networks Application for Information Organization; Emotion-Orientated Intelligent Systems; Public Opinion Channel; A New Era of Intelligent E-Commerce; Automated Internet Trading Based on Optimized Physics Models of Markets. Readership: Engineers, researchers, students and technical managers interested in Internet-based intelligent systems.
