Toxic Chemicals in America [2 volumes]

Toxic Chemicals in America [2 volumes] PDF Author: Kelly A. Tzoumis
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing USA
ISBN: 1440857539
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 745

Book Description
This one-stop resource is ideal for understanding the extent to which toxic chemicals are used in U.S. industry and agriculture—impacting public health and the environment through everything from industrial solvents to children's toys. Every year, about 4 billion pounds of toxic chemicals are generated and released by U.S. industries. Do these chemicals pose a potential health threat to American families, including vulnerable groups like children and the elderly? Is their manufacture and use adequately regulated to protect both human and environmental health? Is the Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, signed in June 2016 by President Barack Obama with bipartisan support, truly the first major overhaul of toxic chemical regulation in 40 years to put human health first, as its supporters asserted? Or is it a fatally flawed bill that does the bidding of industry by undermining strong state environmental and public health laws, as some detractors claim? This two-volume set addresses all of those questions. Moreover, it presents and examines arguments marshaled by business interests, community leaders, scientists, activists, and lawmakers alike. It thus provides users with the information they need to accurately assess the impacts—pro and con—that industrial chemicals are having in shaping the world in which we work, eat, drink, breathe, and play.

Book Description
Safety Standard for Infant Swings (US Consumer Product Safety Commission Regulation) (CPSC) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Safety Standard for Infant Swings (US Consumer Product Safety Commission Regulation) (CPSC) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 Section 104(b) of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), part of the Danny Keysar Child Product Safety Notification Act, requires the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (Commission, CPSC, or we) to promulgate consumer product safety standards for durable infant or toddler products. These standards are to be "substantially the same as" applicable voluntary standards or more stringent than the voluntary standard if the Commission concludes that more stringent requirements would further reduce the risk of injury associated with the product. In this final rule, the Commission is issuing a safety standard for infant swings, as required under section 104(b) of the CPSIA. Infant Safe Sleep

Infant Safe Sleep PDF Author: Rachel Y. Moon
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030475425
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 273

Book Description
This book is a practical, comprehensive look at safe sleep for infants, including safe sleep for infants with co-occurring medical conditions. Currently there is a dearth of resources on this topic for general pediatricians and other clinicians who provide health care to infants. The only evidence-based information about sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related infant deaths is published in policy statements and technical reports published by the American Academy of Paediatrics. However pediatricians, public health professionals, and others who provide health care, anticipatory guidance, and/or health education to parents often have difficulty translating the policy recommendations to practice. This book gives guidance and suggestions for clinicians for counseling parents and other caretakers of infants. It discusses common barriers to adherence, as well as approaches that are evidence-based or use behavior change theory. Chapters focus on important aspects of the sleep environment, evaluating commonly sold sleep products, and common sleep practices, including roomsharing and bedsharing. There is also a thorough discussion of SIDS pathophysiology, and a closing chapter on grief and counselling families after a loss. Each chapter follows an organizational structure, to promote consistency and ensure this remains a practical, easy-to-use tool. Chapters open with a clinical vignette and close with a discussion of frequently encountered questions, and clinical pearls and pitfalls. Infant Safe Sleep is a valuable resource for pediatricians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants as well as social workers, allied health professionals, public health practitioners, health educators, WIC nutritionists and child care providers.
