Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer PDF Author: Henry S. Park
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1789855756
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 226

Book Description
Lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide among both men and women. Recent advances in prevention, screening and management in the past decade have led to significant improvements in survival and quality of life. Local treatments like minimally invasive surgery, radiotherapy, and image-guided ablation have contributed to improving the effectiveness and tolerability of potentially curative treatments in early-stage, locally advanced, and oligometastatic/oligoprogressive disease. Chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and palliative local therapy options have expanded rapidly, with new regimens showing improved outcomes even for those with widely metastatic disease. This book comprehensively reviews the evidence that has driven personalized medicine, based on a variety of multidisciplinary perspectives by international lung cancer experts.

Adverse Effects of Cancer Chemotherapy: Anything New to Improve Tolerance and Reduce Sequelae?

Adverse Effects of Cancer Chemotherapy: Anything New to Improve Tolerance and Reduce Sequelae? PDF Author: Kulmira Nurgali
Publisher: Frontiers Media SA
ISBN: 2889454827
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
Advances in anti-cancer chemotherapy over recent years have led to improved efficacy in curing or controlling many cancers. Some chemotherapy-related side-effects are well recognized and include: nausea, vomiting, bone marrow suppression, peripheral neuropathy, cardiac and skeletal muscle dysfunction and renal impairment. However, it is becoming clearer that some chemotherapy-related adverse effects may persist even in long term cancer survivors. Problems such as cognitive, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal dysfunction, and neuropathy may lead to substantial long term morbidity. Despite improvements in treatments to counteract acute chemotherapy-induced adverse effects, they are often incompletely effective. Furthermore, counter-measures for some acute side-effects and many potential longer term sequelae of anti-cancer chemotherapy have not been developed. Thus, new insights into prevalence and mechanisms of cancer chemotherapy-related side effects are needed and new approaches to improving tolerance and reduce sequelae of cancer chemotherapy are urgently needed. The present Research Topic focuses on adverse effects and sequelae of chemotherapy and strategies to counteract them.

ISBN: 1592598692
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 234

Book Description
A state-of-the art collection of readily reproducible laboratory methods for assessing chemosensitivity in vitro and in vivo, and for assessing the parameters that modulate chemosensitivity in individual tumors. Chemosensitivity, Volume 1: In Vitro Assays provides a panel of 16 in vitro measures of chemosensitivity in adherent and non-adherent cells for single agents and combinations of agents. In addition to immunohistochemical and imaging approaches, these assays include clonogenic, colorimetric, fluorometric, and physiological assays. Highlights include image analysis to assess drug sensitivity, high throughput approaches using green fluorescent protein, DIMSCAN (a microcomputer fluorescence-based assay), and the ChemoFx assay used in biotechnology. A companion volume, Volume 2: In Vivo Models, Imaging, and Molecular Regulators, provides protocols for classifying tumors into response categories and customizing chemotherapy regimens to individual patients.

Nanomedicine for Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy

Nanomedicine for Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy PDF Author: Arshi Malik
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9811575649
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 249

Book Description
This book reviews the current applications and future prospects of nanomaterials in cancer diagnostics and therapy. Nanomaterials have recently emerged as a remarkable and promising tool for cancer therapy and diagnosis, due to their broad range of intrinsic molecular properties. To overcome the current limitations of nanoparticles in drug delivery systems, attempts have been made to synthesize nanoparticles from biological materials for targeted cancer therapy. This book provides concise evaluations of various potential bio-inspired platforms that mimic natural components of the body and offer effective and versatile drug delivery systems for cancer therapy. It also assesses the potential of nanoparticles to enhance the outcomes of cancer immunotherapy via immune cell activation and tumor microenvironment modulation. The book also summarizes in the applications of nanomaterials for the detection, prevention, and treatment of solid tumors and in the treatment of leukemia and lymphomas. In closing, it discusses ethical issues in nanomedicine, including risk assessment, risk management, and risk communication during clinical trials. The book offers offers a valuable source of information for students, academics, researchers, scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals working in nanotechnology and cancer research.
