The Proclamation of the Prophets
Author: G. A. Williams
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 166
Book Description
This book is a series of sermons summarizing the books of prophecy in the Old Testament. I intend these sermons to be studied, preached, or used as Bible lessons or for simple reference. The books of prophecy express God's heart for His people, the Jews, and He chose them to be the primary vehicle of His message to mankind, as the initial means of fulfilling God's mission of redemption and His kingdom being established on earth. However, after repeated attempts to call His people back to that mission, God decided not to speak for four hundred years until John the Baptist showed up in Judea. The proclamation of the prophets is also a promise of victory for the people of God. The cry of God, in the words of Malachi, "Return to me and I will return to you," expresses God's commitment and unrelenting love for His people. This proclamation is not based on replacement theology, which assumes that the church has replaced the Jews. But instead on God's promise to restore His people. I hope you enjoy and are blessed with this work. Use it as a beginning point in your study and research. And in the end, may God be glorified and may you be enlightened.

Joel & Malachi
Author: Graham S. Ogden
Publisher: Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing
ISBN: 1467444154
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 136
Book Description
The book of Joel is one of the Old Testament prophetic books, but it also has a clear and close association with lament literature. Graham Ogden takes seriously the book's lament setting, exegeting it entirely from within that framework. In his commentary on the book of Malachi, Richard Deutsch examines the religious, moral, and social aspects of the early postexilic Jewish community that the prophet was addressing in this brief book.

Prophets, Priests, and Kings: A New Way to Consider Spiritual Gifts
Author: Gabe Sylvia
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 166677118X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 95
Book Description
Toward the end of his life, the Lord Jesus told the disciples the church would do the work that he had done and greater works in these last days. Building on the finished work of Christ, by the power and gifting of the indwelling Holy Spirit, believers do these works as prophets, priests, and kings in what the church has called the "gifts of the Holy Spirit." Through study of the Old Testament saints who filled these offices, Christ (to whom they point), and important New Testament texts, Sylvia builds the paradigm for local church leaders to use to identify and deploy their church members in spiritually-gifted ministry. This paradigm is anchored in the Scriptures and can be used in congregations across the theological spectrum. This book lays out a path for taking seriously the Lord's assertion that in these last days, by the power of the Spirit and for the glory of God, the church will do great things.

The Priests in the Prophets
Author: Lester L. Grabbe
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 0567401871
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 244
Book Description
Since at least the 19th century Hebrew Bible scholarship has traditionally seen priests and prophets as natural opponents, with different social spheres and worldviews. In recent years several studies have started to question this perspective. The Priests in the Prophets examines how the priests are portrayed in the Latter Prophets and analyzes the relationship between priests and prophets. The contributors also provide insights into the place of priests, prophets, and some other religious specialists in Israelite and Judean society in pre-exilic and post-exilic times.
