Book Description
This work ties up the whole elusive body of documents and printed sources related to the more than 20,000 rank and file South Carolina soldiers who made up the battle lines in an untold number of skirmishes with the British and the Tories. The information, which was taken from pension records, bounty land warrants, annuitants' claims, audited accounts, muster rolls, pay lists, and standard published sources and more, is arranged in paragraph form under the name of the soldier and includes some or all of the following details: dates of enlistment, service, battles, and skirmishes; names of commanding officers; names or designation of military unit; rank attained; notations indicating whether the soldier was wounded, killed or taken prisoner; source citations; and, in the case of data deriving from federal pension files or state annuity claims, dates and places of birth and death, names of wives and children, and places of residence before and after the War.

Rebels and King's Men

Rebels and King's Men PDF Author: Gerald W. Thomas
Publisher: North Carolina Division of Archives & History
ISBN: 9780865264519
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Rebels and King's Men documents the contributions of Bertie citizens to the war effort and chronicles their service and sacrifices. Men from the county served in significant numbers in North Carolina's Continental Line regiments and companies of the county's detached militia. Contrarily, a segment of the populace devoutly supported King George III and became entwined in a Loyalist conspiracy that sprouted in the northeastern region of North Carolina during the spring and summer of 1777. The plot, once exposed within Bertie and neighboring counties, was quickly and thoroughly crushed by Whig leaders. Rebels and King's Men portrays the overall dedication of a small rural community to freedom and democracy--the underpinnings of the American experience.

Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia

Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in Georgia PDF Author: Howard H. McCall
Publisher: Genealogical Publishing Com
ISBN: 0806302194
Category : Georgia
Languages : en
Pages : 294

Book Description
Mrs. McCall's roster of Georgia soldiers in the Revolution was compiled over many years. The work as a whole is cumulative, with only slight, albeit significant, differences in the kinds of information which may be found in one volume versus another. Volume I of this work contains the records of hundreds of Revolutionary War soldiers and officers of Georgia, with genealogies of their families, and lists of soldiers buried in Georgia whose graves have been located. Volumes II and III are also published by Clearfield Company. The arrangement of Volume II is similar to that of Volume I; however, it contains records of officers and soldiers not only from Georgia but from other states, many of whose descendants later came to Georgia because of liberal land grants. Volume III, the longest of the work, is similar in scope to Volume II except that the majority of the entries are for Georgia officers and soldiers, with only some material relating to other states. The three volumes, each of which is indexed, refer to as many as 20,000 persons overall.
