Book Description
Winner of the 2023 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work - Fiction “Deeply empathetic yet unflinching in its gaze…an unforgettable exploration of responsibility and redemption.”—Celeste Ng Inspired by true events that rocked the nation, a searing and compassionate new novel about a Black nurse in post-segregation Alabama who blows the whistle on a terrible injustice done to her patients, from the New York Times bestselling author of Wench Montgomery, Alabama, 1973. Fresh out of nursing school, Civil Townsend intends to make a difference, especially in her African American community. At the Montgomery Family Planning Clinic, she hopes to help women shape their destinies, to make their own choices for their lives and bodies. But when her first week on the job takes her along a dusty country road to a worn-down one-room cabin, Civil is shocked to learn that her new patients, Erica and India, are children—just eleven and thirteen years old. Neither of the Williams sisters has even kissed a boy, but they are poor and Black, and for those handling the family’s welfare benefits, that’s reason enough to have the girls on birth control. As Civil grapples with her role, she takes India, Erica, and their family into her heart. Until one day she arrives at their door to learn the unthinkable has happened, and nothing will ever be the same for any of them. Decades later, with her daughter grown and a long career in her wake, Dr. Civil Townsend is ready to retire, to find her peace, and to leave the past behind. But there are people and stories that refuse to be forgotten. That must not be forgotten. Because history repeats what we don’t remember. Inspired by true events and brimming with hope, Take My Hand is a stirring exploration of accountability and redemption. “Highlights the horrific discrepancies in our healthcare system and illustrates their heartbreaking consequences.”—Essence

Book Description
Master of new noir Dennis Lehane magnificently evokes the dignity and savagery of working-class Boston in Darkness, Take My Hand, a terrifying tale of redemption. Born and bred on the mean streets of blue-collar Dorchester, they’ve seen the darkness that lives in the hearts of the unfortunate. This book offers inspiration for all caregivers looking for an alternative way to support and connect with a family member, friend or patient in their care. It teaches an easy 30 minute hand massage sequence and offers clear instructions and detailed illustrations to guide the reader through each step. Take My Hand and Walk with Me

Take My Hand and Walk with Me PDF Author: Anne Carbone
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1512740454
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 90

Book Description
In this book I share my journey with God and how it unfolded over my life time. My journey began on a dark November night when I lost my way. I was returning from a cousins birthday party in Brooklyn. It was one am. I missed the turn on a road I had driven all of my youth growing up in Brooklyn. Not quite sure where I was I stopped at a stop sign and began to pray. I was scared, as the neighborhood was alive with drug activity and crowded street corners. In a few minutes of that prayer the front part of a white tractor trailer pulled along side my car. I lowered my window and asked this big burly man for directions back to the main artery that would lead me to the ninety mile trip home. He told me to follow him as he was going that way, but had to make a stop first. Had I not heard the compassion in his voice I would have never followed him. We weaved through streets unknown to me and made a stop in front of a housing project. I left the motor running and waited. He returned with a women who climbed into the cab. Again we weaved through streets unknown to me. Suddenly he stopped and began to walk over to my car. I gripped the steering wheel. He pointed to a big sign that announced the entrance to the expressway that would lead me home. Filled with joy I lowered my window to express my thanks. He returned to his truck made a right hand turn as I made the left to enter on to the expressway. I had a clear view of the flaps on his back tires as the street lights reflected their glow. It said Transportation for Christ. My journey had begun.
