Chemical Imaging Analysis

Chemical Imaging Analysis PDF Author: Freddy Adams
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0444634509
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 480

Book Description
Chemical Imaging Analysis covers the advancements made over the last 50 years in chemical imaging analysis, including different analytical techniques and the ways they were developed and refined to link the composition and structure of manmade and natural materials at the nano/micro scale to the functional behavior at the macroscopic scale. In a development process that started in the early 1960s, a variety of specialized analytical techniques was developed – or adapted from existing techniques – and these techniques have matured into versatile and powerful tools for visualizing structural and compositional heterogeneity. This text explores that journey, providing a general overview of imaging techniques in diverse fields, including mass spectrometry, optical spectrometry including X-rays, electron microscopy, and beam techniques. Provides comprehensive coverage of analytical techniques used in chemical imaging analysis Explores a variety of specialized techniques Provides a general overview of imaging techniques in diverse fields

Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy

Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy PDF Author: Richard Payling
Publisher: Royal Society of Chemistry
ISBN: 1847550983
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 224

Book Description
Glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GDOES) is an essential technique for the direct analysis of bulk solids, for elemental surface analysis and for the depth profiling of thin films and industrial coatings. The technique has shown rapid growth in numbers of instruments, in breadth of applications, in improved quantification in recent years and is now a recognised technique within the ISO, with two international standards. Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy: A Practical Guide takes the reader on a journey through instrument operation, sample preparation, analysis, and reporting results. It follows two sets of samples through the whole process of analysis, brass samples for bulk analysis, and zinc-coated steel for depth profiling. Procedures are consistent with recent ISO standards and each step is loaded with hands-on tips and theoretical insight. The book also includes unique data tables on spectral interferences, molecular bands, self-absorption and relative sputtering rates. This book is designed for those using or managing GDOES instruments and for students interested in learning the technique from a hands-on perspective. It is also an invaluable aid to those considering the purchase of a GDOES instrument, or those using GDOES results, to understand in detail how the technique works and what is involved in maintaining the instrument and achieving high quality results.

Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry

Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry PDF Author: Richard Payling
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 904

Book Description
Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry (GD-OES) is rapidly becoming one of the most important techniques for the direct analysis of solids. This, the first book entirely devoted to the subject, represents the combined contributions of over 30 specialists from around the world. All contributors are active in the field and recognised internationally for their expertise and knowledge in GD-OES. The book begins with an introductory overview of the subjects, deals with the design of the instrument, its operation and analytical methods and describes in detail the complex plasma processes which occur inside the glow discharge source. The second part of the book is more practically orientated, showing the full range of uses for GD-OES from the bulk analysis of virtually any solid material to depth profiling within the first tens of micrometres of a variety of surfaces and coatings. Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry is intended for a wide audience of scientists, engineers and postgraduate students and will be a valuable and challenging reference work for both experienced users of the technique and newcomers alike.

Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry No. 6

Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry No. 6 PDF Author: J. O'M. Bockris
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468430009
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 393

Book Description
In the last decade, the evolution of electrochemistry away from concern with the physical chemistry of solutions to its more fruitful goal in the study of the widespread consequences of the transfer of electric charges across interphases has come to fruition. The turning of technology away from an onward rush, regardless, to progress which takes into account repercussions of techno logical activity on the environment, and the consequent need for a reduction and then termination of the injection of CO into 2 the atmosphere (greenhouse effect), together with a reckoning with air and water pollution in general, ensures a long-term need for advances in a basic knowledge of electrochemical systems, an increased technological use of which seems to arise from the environmental necessities. But a mighty change in attitude needs to spread among electro chemists (indeed, among all surface chemists) concerning the terms and level in which their field is discussed. The treatment of charge transfer reactions has often been made too vaguely, in terms, it seemed, of atom transfer, with the electron-transfer step, the essence of electrochemistry, an implied accompaniment to the transfer of ions across electrical double layers. The treatment has been in terms of classical mechanics, only tenable while inadequate questions were asked concerning the behavior of the electron in the interfacial transfer. No process demands a more exclusively quantal discussion than does electron transfer.

Plasma Surface Metallurgy

Plasma Surface Metallurgy PDF Author: Zhong Xu
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811057249
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 269

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive introduction to and technical description of a unique patented surface-modification technology: plasma surface metallurgy with double-glow discharge plasma process, known as the Xu-Tec process. As such it promotes further attention and interest in scientific research and engineering development in this area, as well as industrial utilization and product commercialization. The Xu-Tec process has opened up a new material engineering field of “Plasma Surface Metallurgy”. This surface-modification process can transform many low-grade and low-cost industrial engineering materials into “gold” materials with a high value and high grade or special functions. This improved material can be widely used in industrial production to improve the surface performance and quality of mechanical parts and manufacturing products, and to conserve expensive alloying elements for the benefit of all mankind. “This book will be valuable to those in the general area of surface metallurgy. The substantial description of the Xu-Tec process is very important and should assist in expanding the use of this superior technique. The in-depth explanation of glow discharges and their use in general will also serve as a valuable reference in the field.” James E. Thompson, Prof. Fellow of the IEEE Dean of Engineering Emeritus University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, USA November, 2016 "A BREAKTHROUGH IN MAKING METAL TOUGHER". ---- SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY Business Week, July 24, 1989 “NOVEL SURFACE ALLOYING PROCESS” --- THE LEADING EDGE TECHNOLOGY WORDWIDE Materials and Processing Report, Dec. 1987
