New Trends in Urban Drainage Modelling

New Trends in Urban Drainage Modelling PDF Author: Giorgio Mannina
Publisher:
ISBN: 9783319998688
Category : TECHNOLOGY & ENGINEERING
Languages : en
Pages : 1009

Book Description
This book addresses the latest research advances, innovations, and applications in the field of urban drainage and water management as presented by leading researchers, scientists and practitioners from around the world at the 11th International Conference on Urban Drainage Modelling (UDM), held in Palermo, Italy from 23 to 26 September, 2018. The conference was promoted and organized by the University of Palermo, Italy and the International Working Group on Data and Models, with the support of four of the world?s leading organizations in the water sector: the International Water Association (IWA), International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) - ASCE, and the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society (iEMSs). The topics covered are highly diverse and include drainage and impact mitigation, water quality, rainfall in urban areas, urban hydrologic and hydraulic processes, tools, techniques and analysis in urban drainage modelling, modelling interactions and integrated systems, transport and sewer processes (incl. micropollutants and pathogens), and water management and climate change. The conference?s primary goal is to offer a forum for promoting discussions amongst scientists and professionals on the interrelationships between the entire water cycle, environment and society.

Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351988514
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 739

Book Description
Urban Drainage has been thoroughly revised and updated to reflect changes in the practice and priorities of urban drainage. New and expanded coverage includes: Sewer flooding The impact of climate change Flooding models The move towards sustainability Providing a descriptive overview of the issues involved as well as the engineering principles and analysis, it draws on real-world examples as well as models to support and demonstrate the key issues facing engineers dealing with drainage issues. It also deals with both the design of new drainage systems and the analysis and upgrading of existing infrastructure. This is a unique and essential textbook for students of water, environmental, and public health engineering as well as a valuable resource for practising engineers.

Modelling, Simulation and Control of Urban Wastewater Systems

Modelling, Simulation and Control of Urban Wastewater Systems PDF Author: Manfred Schütze

Book Description
by Professor Poul Harremoes Environmental engineering has been a discipline dominated by empirical approaches to engineering. Historically speaking, the development of urban drainage structures was very successful on the basis of pure empiricism. Just think of the impressive structures built by the Romans long before the discipline of hydraulics came into being. The fact is that the Romans did not know much about the theories of hydraulics, which were discovered as late as the mid-1800s. However, with the Renaissance came a new era. Astronomy (Galileos) and basic physics (Newton) started the scientific revolution and in the mid-1800s Navier and Stokes developed the application of Newtons laws to hydrodynamics, and later, St. Venant the first basic physics description of the motion of water in open channels. The combination of basic physical understanding of the phenomena involved in the flow of water in pipes and the experience gained by "trial and error", the engineering approach to urban drainage improved the design and performance of the engineering drainage infrastructure. However, due to the mathematical complications of the basic equations, solutions were available only to quite simple cases of practical significance until the introduction of new principles of calculation made possible by computers and their ability to crunch numbers. Now even intricate hydraulic phenomena can be simulated with a reasonable degree of confidence that the simulations are in agreement with performance in practice, if the models are adequately calibrated with sample performance data.

Urban Drainage

Urban Drainage PDF Author: J. B. Ellis
Publisher: IWA Publishing
ISBN: 190022206X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 528

Book Description
Urban Drainage: A Multilingual Glossary has been written by research engineers and scientists with substantial experience in the urban drainage field. It provides definitive descriptions of urban drainage terms in English, French, Japanese and German, giving guidance on their appropriate usage and context. The glossary also contains many diagrams, tables and technical discussions, and is a very practical tool to facilitate international technical communication in the urban drainage field. Containing well over 850 commonly-used terms in urban drainage, all expressed in a user-friendly manner, the book serves as a valuable resource for both practitioner and academic. Topics covered include: urban hydrology/hydraulics sewerage surface water runoff pollution (groundwater and surface) receiving waters ecology ecotoxicology best management practices urban water resource management Urban Drainage: A Multilingual Glossary represents an initiative of the joint IWA/IAHR Committee on Urban Drainage and has arisen out of the long-standing terminological and tautological difficulties of many terms in common usage within international urban drainage practice. It will be of great use and interest to scientists, engineers and ecologists, professionals and students working in urban hydrology/hydraulics, urban water resource management and regulation, urban planning and ecology.
