Book Description
Excerpt from World Grain Trade Statistics: 1950-51/1972-73 This report provides reference statistics on the quantity of grain which moves in international trade. It contains historical data for both exporting and importing countries by country, by region, and for each grain, covering a period of 23 years. These data are useful in understanding past changes in world grain trade, and in evaluating prospects for the future. To aid in the usefulness of this publication, the following explanatory details should be noted: Data are expressed in thousands of metric tons and compiled on a July 1-june 30 basis. World totals for individual grains are also expressed in thousands of bushels. Wheat flour is expressed in terms of grain equivalent. Data were obtained from the official trade statistics of each country whenever possible. Where these were lacking, other sources were used, including us. Agricultural attache reports, and reports of the International Wheat Council and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. In instance where no official source was available for the trade of a particular country for the period covered, estimates were developed based on reports from the trading partners of that country and/or reports for other accounting periods, such as calendar-year data as a basis for estimating july-june year trade. In exceptional cases, after thorough review, officially reported data were adjusted in line with partner-country data or other special circumstances.
