Intelligence as Adaptive Behavior

Intelligence as Adaptive Behavior PDF Author: B. Chandrasekaran
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483288129
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 240

Book Description
The "intelligence" of traditional artificial intelligence systems is notoriously narrow and inflexible--incapable of adapting to the constantly changing circumstances of the real world. Although traditional artificial intelligence systems can be successful in narrowly prescribed domains, they are inappropriate for dynamic, complex domains, such as autonomous robot navigation.**This book proposes an alternative methodology for designing intelligent systems based on a model of intelligence as adaptive behavior. The author describes an experiment in computational neuroethology--the computer modeling of neuronal control of behavior--in which the nervous system for an artificial insect is modeled. The experiment demonstrates that simple, complete intelligent agents are able to cope with complex, dynamic environments--suggesting that adaptive models of intelligence, based on biological bases of adaptive behavior, may prove to be very useful in the design of intelligent, autonomous systems. Provides a lucid critique of traditional artificial intelligence research programs Presents new methodology for the construction autonomous agents, which has implications for mobile robotics Of interest to researchers in a variety of fields: artificial intelligence, neural networks, robotics, cognitive science, and neuroscience

Adaptive Business Intelligence

Adaptive Business Intelligence PDF Author: Zbigniew Michalewicz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540329293
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 249

Book Description
Adaptive business intelligence systems combine prediction and optimization techniques to assist decision makers in complex, rapidly changing environments. These systems address fundamental questions: What is likely to happen in the future? What is the best course of action? Adaptive Business Intelligence explores elements of data mining, predictive modeling, forecasting, optimization, and adaptability. The book explains the application of numerous prediction and optimization techniques, and shows how these concepts can be used to develop adaptive systems. Coverage includes linear regression, time-series forecasting, decision trees and tables, artificial neural networks, genetic programming, fuzzy systems, genetic algorithms, simulated annealing, tabu search, ant systems, and agent-based modeling.

Practical Applications of Computational Intelligence for Adaptive Control

Practical Applications of Computational Intelligence for Adaptive Control PDF Author: Charles Karr
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849320699
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
Written as a result of a seven year research project using computational intelligence techniques for solving mineral processing problems at the U.S. Bureau of Mines, this book is about intelligent, adaptive process control. It brings together ideas from the field of computational intelligence , a part of the larger field of artificial intelligence, including fuzzy mathematics, genetic algorithms, and neural networks and uses these ideas to develop a generic architecture for accomplishing adaptive process control. In the development of this architecture, the requisite tools are described and then demonstrated on a number of problems. Moreover, most of the examples are of interest in industrial settings (although some simple examples are provided in the beginning so that the reader can focus on technique and not be overburdened with the complexity of the problems being solved.) The focus of Practical Applications of Computational Intelligence for Adaptive Control is on practical applications. It provides practicing engineers and scientists with the information they need to solve process control problems in industry and academia. If the reader is interested in solving difficult control problems or interested in the mechanics of basic computational intelligence techniques, then this book is an excellent place to start.

Intelligent Industrial Systems: Modeling, Automation and Adaptive Behavior

Intelligent Industrial Systems: Modeling, Automation and Adaptive Behavior PDF Author: Rigatos, Gerasimos
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 161520850X
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 601

Book Description
In recent years, there has been growing interest in industrial systems, especially in robotic manipulators and mobile robot systems. As the cost of robots goes down and become more compact, the number of industrial applications of robotic systems increases. Moreover, there is need to design industrial systems with intelligence, autonomous decision making capabilities, and self-diagnosing properties. Intelligent Industrial Systems: Modeling, Automation and Adaptive Behavior analyzes current trends in industrial systems design, such as intelligent, industrial, and mobile robotics, complex electromechanical systems, fault diagnosis and avoidance of critical conditions, optimization, and adaptive behavior. This book discusses examples from major areas of research for engineers and researchers, providing an extensive background on robotics and industrial systems with intelligence, autonomy, and adaptive behavior giving emphasis to industrial systems design.

Adaptive Web Sites

Adaptive Web Sites PDF Author: Juan D. Velásquez
Publisher: IOS Press
ISBN: 1586038311
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 296

Book Description
This book can be presented in two different ways. Firstly, it introduces a particular methodology to build adaptive Web sites and secondly, it presents the main concepts behind Web mining and then applying them to adaptive Web sites. In this case, Adaptive Web Sites is the case study to exemplify the tools introduced in the text. The authors start by introducing the Web and motivating the need for adaptive Web sites. The second chapter introduces the main concepts behind a Web site: its operation, its associated data and structure, user sessions, etc. Chapter three explains the Web mining process and the tools to analyze Web data, mainly focused in machine learning. The fourth chapter looks at how to store and manage data. Chapter five looks at the three main and different mining tasks: content, links and usage. The following chapter covers Web personalization; a crucial topic if we want to adapt our site to specific groups of people. Chapter seven shows how to use information extraction techniques to find user behavior patterns. The subsequent chapter explains how to acquire and maintain knowledge extracted from the previous phase. Finally, chapter nine contains the case study where all the previous concepts are applied to present a framework to build adaptive Web sites. In other words, the authors have taken care of writing a self-contained book for people that want to learn and apply personalization and adaptation in Web sites. This is commendable considering the large and increasing bibliography in these and related topics. The writing is easy to follow and although the coverage is not exhaustive, the main concepts and topics are all covered.

Adaptive Intelligent Systems

Adaptive Intelligent Systems PDF Author: Society for Worldwide Interban
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483298159
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 255

Book Description
Dedicated to the consideration of advanced I.T. technologies and their financial applications, this volume contains contributions from an international group of system developers and managers from academia, the financial industry and their suppliers: all actively involved in the development and practical introduction of these technologies into banking and financial organisations. Concentrating on real experience and present needs, rather than theoretical possibilities or limited prototype applications, it is hoped the publication will give a better insight into advanced I.T. practice and potential as it currently exists and motivate today's developers and researchers. In addition to the discussion of a wide range of technologies and approaches to ensure adaptivity, three other major topics are explored in the book: neural networks, classical software engineering techniques and rule-based systems.
