Canadian Framework for Collaboration on Groundwater

Canadian Framework for Collaboration on Groundwater PDF Author: Alfonso Rivera
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 53

Book Description
"The availability and quality of Canada's groundwater is under considerable stress due to increasing demands, sources of contamination, changing land-use patterns, and climate-change impacts. Although the provinces have programs to protect and manage their groundwater resources, there is currently no nationally shared vision on how to do this. As a result there is considerable inconsistency in programs, regulations, services, etc. across Canada. This report describes a framework for a nationally consistent program to manage Canada's groundwater resources, and presents a mechanism to promote and implement the several national groundwater management issues"--Abstract.

Water Resources of North America

Water Resources of North America PDF Author: Asit K. Biswas
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662108682
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 381

Book Description
Leonardo da Vinci, the eminent Renaissance scholar and philosopher said, "water is the driver of nature". Many may have considered it to be an overstatement in the past, but at the beginning of the third millennium, no sane individual would disagree with Leonardo's view. Water is becoming an increasingly scarce resource for most of the world's citizens. The current trends indicate that the overall situation is likely to deteriorate further, at least for the next two decades, unless the water profession eschews its existing "business as usual" practices, which can only allow incremental changes to occur. Somewhat surprisingly, the water profession as a whole neither realised nor appreciated the gravity of the global water situation as late as 1990, even though a few serious scholars have been pointing out the increasing criticality of the situation from around 1982. For example, the seriousness of the crisis was not a major issue, either at the International Conference on W ater and the Environment, which was organised by the UN system in Dublin and also at the UN Conference on Environment and Development at Rio de Janeiro. Held in 1992, both are considered to be important events for the water sector of the past decade. It is now being increasingly recognised that the Dublin Conference was poorly planned and organised, and thus not surprisingly it produced very little, if any, worthwhile and lasting results.

Eau Canada

Eau Canada PDF Author: Karen Bakker
Publisher: UBC Press
ISBN: 0774840099
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 442

Book Description
As the sustainability of our natural resources is increasingly questioned, Canadians remain stubbornly convinced of the unassailability of our water. Mounting evidence suggests, however, that Canadian water is under threat. Eau Canada assembles the country's top water experts to discuss our most pressing water issues. Perspectives from a broad range of thinkers geographers, environmental lawyers, former government officials, aquatic and political scientists, and economists reflect the diversity of concerns in water management. Arguing that weak governance is at the heart of Canada's water problems, this timely book identifies our key failings, explores debates over jurisdiction, transboundary waters, exports, and privatization, and maps out solutions for protecting our most important resource.

Intensive Use of Groundwater:

Intensive Use of Groundwater: PDF Author: M. Ramon Llamas
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9789058093905
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 498

Book Description
This text is written by a number of authors from different countries and disciplines, affording the reader an invaluable and unbiased perspective on the subject of intensive groundwater development. Based on information gathered from the experience of many countries over the last decades, the text aims to present a clear discussion on the conventional hydrogeological aspects of intensive groundwater use, along with the ecological, legal, institutional, economic and social challenges. Divided into two main sections, the first group of authors put forward the positive and negative aspects of intensive groundwater use, whilst a second group provide an overview of the situation specific countries face as a consequence of this phenomenon. Fully revised and up-to-date, Groundwater Intensive Use makes a significant number of discoveries in a subject area that is topical in today's climate.
