ISBN: 0471423211
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 479

Book Description
State-of-the-art coverage of modern computational methods for the analysis and design of beams Analysis and Design of Elastic Beams presents computer models and applications related to thin-walled beams such as those used in mechanical and aerospace designs, where thin, lightweight structures with high strength are needed. This book will enable readers to compute the cross-sectional properties of individual beams with arbitrary cross-sectional shapes, to apply a general-purpose computer analysis of a complete structure to determine the forces and moments in the individual members, and to use a unified approach for calculating the normal and shear stresses, as well as deflections, for those members' cross sections. In addition, this book augments a solid foundation in the basic structural design theory of beams by: * Providing coverage of thin-wall structure analysis and optimization techniques * Applying computer numerical methods to classical design methods * Developing computational solutions for cross-sectional properties and stresses using finite element analyses Including access to an associated Web site with software for the analysis and design of any cross-sectional shape, Analysis and Design of Elastic Beams: Computational Methods is an essential reference for mechanical, aerospace, and civil engineers and designers working in the automotive, ship, and aerospace industries in product and process design, machine design, structural design, and design optimization, as well as students and researchers in these areas.

Thin-Walled Composite Beams

Thin-Walled Composite Beams PDF Author: Liviu Librescu
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402042035
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 627

Book Description
Annotation This is the first monograph devoted to the foundation of the theory of composite anisotropic thin-walled beams and to its applications in various problems involving the aeronautical/aerospace, helicopter, naval and mechanical structures. Throughout the theoretical part, an effort was made to provide the treatment of the subject by using the equations of the 3-D elasticity theory. Non-classical effects such as transverse shear, warping constraint, anisotropy of constituent materials yielding the coupling of twist-bending (lateral), bending (transversal)-extension have been included and their implications have been thoroughly analyzed. Thermal effects have been included and in order to be able to circumvent their deleterious effects, functionally graded materials have been considered in their construction. Implications of the application of the tailoring technique and of the active feedback control on free vibration, dynamic response, instability and aeroelasticity of such structures have been amply investigated. Special care was exercised throughout this work to address and validate the adopted solution methodologies and the obtained results against those available in the literature and obtained via numerical or experimental means.

Design Analysis of Beams, Circular Plates and Cylindrical Tanks on Elastic Foundations

Design Analysis of Beams, Circular Plates and Cylindrical Tanks on Elastic Foundations PDF Author: Edmund S. Melerski
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000151182
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 310

Book Description
This extended and revised second edition elaborates on techniques for the numerical analysis of beams, long strips, circular plates, and circular-cylindrical tanks resting on elastic foundations and on unyielding or elastic supports. Emphasis is placed on the simplicity of analysis, while maintaining the accuracy of results, and a large number of examples are included as illustration. Easy-to-use, fully-revised software is included which runs smoothly under current Windows operating systems. The applicability of the software is extended to analysis of laterally-loaded piles and bending analysis of retaining walls. A bonus suite of complementary software containing programmes for elastic-plastic soil-structure interaction analyses of beams or strips, laterally-loaded piles or sheet-piles, and long retaining walls is also included. This package of numerical techniques and software provides a powerful tool which renders design analysis of structures easy and time-efficient. Practising engineers will find this title invaluable, while postgraduate students and researchers working in soil-structure interaction will also find the book-software package very useful.

Elastic Beams and Frames

Elastic Beams and Frames PDF Author: J D Renton
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0857099620
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 423

Book Description
The book approaches the basic theory of structures from a different perspective from standard pedagogy. There is consideration of work and energy concepts as fundamental and the equations of statics derived from them. Likewise, these concepts, together with that of the characteristic response, are used in the derivation of beam theory. Plane sections remaining plane is then seen as a particular result for isotropic, homogeneous, prismatic beams. The general theory may still be used where none of these conditions holds, and can even be applied to trusses. It also corrects errors in the theory of beam shear. Special topics discussed include non-uniform torsion, the exact analysis of shear, anisotropy, advanced energy methods, optimum structures, and regular frames. Software provided in the book includes seven general purpose programs for analysis of plane, space frames with rigid or pinned joints, and uses the augmented Gaussian elimination process and dynamic storage techniques. Approaches the basic theory of elastic beams and frames from a different perspective from standard pedagogy Provides an introduction to more advanced ideas on the theory of structures and contains much additional material Includes consideration of work and energy concepts as fundamental and the equations of statistics derived from them

Analysis of Structures on Elastic Foundations

Analysis of Structures on Elastic Foundations PDF Author: Edward Tsudik
Publisher: J. Ross Publishing
ISBN: 1604270748
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 600

Book Description
Analysis of Structures on Elastic Foundations is a practical guide for structural and geotechnical engineers as well as graduate students working in foundation engineering. Included are detailed descriptions of practical methods of analysis of various foundations including simple beams on elastic foundations as well as very complex foundations such as mat foundations supported on piles. Methods for fast and easy hand analysis in addition to methods for exact computer analysis are presented. Most of the methods are developed for three soil models: Winkler foundation, elastic half-spaces, and elastic layers. Numerous numerical examples illustrate the applications of these methods.

Elastic, Plastic and Yield Design of Reinforced Structures

Elastic, Plastic and Yield Design of Reinforced Structures PDF Author: Patrick De Buhan
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0081021135
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 342

Book Description
Elastic, Plastic and Yield Design of Reinforced Structures presents a whole set of new results which have been published by the authors over the last 30 years in the field of continuum solid mechanics applied to the analysis and design of reinforced civil engineering structures. The focus is on the development and application of up-scaling/homogenization methods in the design of such composite structures, with a special emphasis on the plastic behavior and ultimate strength of materials. The specificity of the book is highlighted by at least two completely innovative concepts which lie at the very heart of the book’s originality: the elaboration of a fully comprehensive homogenization-based method for the design of reinforced structures (and not only materials), through the study of macroscopic behavior, and the development of a multiphase model for materials reinforced by linear inclusions, which considerably extends the range of applicability of the classical homogenization procedure.
