Book Description
The main part of the book consists of the dialogue between physicist Otto Rössler, and artist and AI researcher Bill Seaman with the commentaries disclosing information perspective by information scientist Mark Burgin and Bill Seaman. In this dialogue, Rössler and Seaman discuss concepts surrounding Rössler's major research over his lifetime. Additionally, each research topic is linked to the set of papers and books published by Rössler and other related collaborative researchers. The goal is to delineate an intellectual directory for future researchers. The discussed topics being transdisciplinary in nature cross many fields in science and technology. A comprehensive historical bibliography is also included. The work explores many fields germane to theoretical science as Rössler was often quite early in developing these fields and interacting with many famous scientists. This work pertains to information theory, which has often been left out of the historical literature.Burgin as an expert in information theory is providing an information perspective on this dialogue adding historical discussion and relevant scientific and mathematical underpinnings of the discussed ideas. His observations are complemented by Seaman, who presents the synthesis of artistic and scientific outlook.Addendum contains articles describing Rössler's relationships to colleagues from multiple fields, a parable by Rössler and papers related to Rössler's research and theoretical models of processes in the universe.

Probability, Information, And Physics: Problems With Quantum Mechanics In The Context Of A Novel Probability Theory

Probability, Information, And Physics: Problems With Quantum Mechanics In The Context Of A Novel Probability Theory PDF Author: Paolo Rocchi
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 981127276X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 286

Book Description
This book deals with two main topics. The first is a theory that aims to unify the many interpretations of probability presented in the literature. The second uses this comprehensive theory of probability to answer the questions of quantum mechanics that have long been debated. The entire book proposes original solutions that several experimental cases substantiate.

Research Advances in Chaos Theory

Research Advances in Chaos Theory PDF Author: Paul Bracken
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1789855438
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 138

Book Description
The subject of chaos has invaded practically every area of the natural sciences. Weather patterns are referred to as chaotic. There are chemical reactions and chaotic evolution of insect populations. Atomic and molecular physics have also seen the emergence of the study of chaos in these microscopic domains. This book examines the issue of chaos in nonlinear and dynamical systems, quantum mechanics, biology, and economics.

From Order to Chaos

From Order to Chaos PDF Author: Leo P Kadanoff
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814505145
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 576

Book Description
This book is a compilation of the review papers, expositions and some of the technical works of Leo Kadanoff, a theoretical physicist. The objective is to put together a group of not-too-technical writing in which he discusses some issues in condensed matter physics, hydrodynamics, applied mathematics and national policy. The volume is divided into four sections. The first section contains review papers on hydrodynamics, condensed matter physics and field theory. Next is a selection of papers on scaling and universality, particularly as applied to phase changes. A change of pace is provided by a series of papers on the critical analysis of simulation models of urban economic and social development. The book concludes with a series of recent papers on turbulence and chaos. Each major section has an introduction designed to tie the work together and to provide perspective on the subject matter. Contents:Fundamental Issues in Hydrodynamics, Condensed Matter and Field TheoryScaling and Phase TransitionsSimulations, Urban Studies and Social SystemsTurbulence and Chaos Readership: Condensed matter physicists, applied mathematicians and computer scientists. keywords:Order;Chaos;Critical;Statistical Mechanics;Phase Transition;Scaling;Universality;Dynamics;Turbulence;Renormalization “World Scientific has made available a collection of Leo's reviews, essays columns and commentaries which is a feast in several senses: the strategy and tactics of science, the science itself, the history of several important developments in science, and as a bonus a beautifully illustrated collection of essays on computational science. The average reader may find this, the final section of the book, most interesting, but for me the account of his discovery of scaling, for which, inexplicably, he did not receive the Nobel prize, is most intriguing. Leo's combination of verve, frankness and insight makes this a very good read.” P W Anderson Princeton Univ. “Publication of this volume will be very useful, especially for young readers. The papers disseminated over many journals acquire a new quality by being collected together. Readers not only can see a result in its final form, but also can trace its evolution.” J Fluid Mechanics “The book is an invaluable source of information and inspiration on a variety of important problems in modern physics.”EMS

Complexity, Entropy And The Physics Of Information

Complexity, Entropy And The Physics Of Information PDF Author: Wojciech H. Zurek
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0429971435
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 545

Book Description
This book has emerged from a meeting held during the week of May 29 to June 2, 1989, at St. John’s College in Santa Fe under the auspices of the Santa Fe Institute. The (approximately 40) official participants as well as equally numerous “groupies” were enticed to Santa Fe by the above “manifesto.” The book—like the “Complexity, Entropy and the Physics of Information” meeting explores not only the connections between quantum and classical physics, information and its transfer, computation, and their significance for the formulation of physical theories, but it also considers the origins and evolution of the information-processing entities, their complexity, and the manner in which they analyze their perceptions to form models of the Universe. As a result, the contributions can be divided into distinct sections only with some difficulty. Indeed, I regard this degree of overlapping as a measure of the success of the meeting. It signifies consensus about the important questions and on the anticipated answers: they presumably lie somewhere in the “border territory,” where information, physics, complexity, quantum, and computation all meet.
