Digital Cultural Heritage

Digital Cultural Heritage PDF Author: Horst Kremers
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030152006
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 447

Book Description
This book provides an overview of various application spheres and supports further innovations needed in information management and in the processes of knowledge generation. The professions, organizations and scientific associations involved are unusually challenged by the complexity of the data situation. Cartography has always been the central field of application for georeferencing digital cultural heritage (DCH) objects. It is particularly important in enabling spatial relation analysis between any number of DCH objects or of their granular details. In addition to the pure geometric aspects, the cognitive relations that lead to knowledge representation and derivation of innovative use processes are also of increasing importance. Further, there is a societal demand for spatial reference and analytics (e.g. the extensive use of cognitive concepts of "map" and "atlas" for a variety of social topics in the media). There is a huge geometrical-logical-cognitive potential for complex, multimedia, digital-cultural-heritage databases and stakeholders expect handling, transmission and processing operations with guaranteed long-term availability for all other stakeholders. In the future, whole areas of digital multimedia databases will need to be processed to further our understanding of historical and cultural contexts. This is an important concern for the information society and presents significant challenges for cartography in all these domains. This book collects innovative technical and scientific work on the entire process of object digitization, including detail extraction, archiving and interoperability of multimedia DCH data.

Exploring Digital Humanities in India

Exploring Digital Humanities in India PDF Author: Maya Dodd
Publisher: Taylor & Francis

Book Description
This book explores the emergence of digital humanities in the Indian context. It looks at how online and digital resources have transformed classroom and research practices. It examines some fundamental questions: What is digital humanities? Who is a digital humanist? What is its place in the Indian context? The chapters in the volume: • study the varied practices and pedagogies involved in incorporating the ‘digital’ into traditional classrooms; • showcase how researchers across disciplinary lines are expanding their scope of research, by adding a ‘digital’ component to update their curriculum to contemporary times; • highlight how this has also created opportunities for researchers to push the boundaries of their pedagogy and encouraged students to create ‘live projects’ with the aid of digital platforms; and • track changes in the language of research, documentation, archiving and reproduction as new conversations are opening up across Indian languages. Digital Humanities and Laboratories

Digital Humanities and Laboratories PDF Author:
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781032027654
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
"Digital Humanities and Laboratories explores laboratories dedicated to the study of digital humanities (DH) in a global context and contributes to the expanding body of knowledge about situated DH knowledge production. Including contributions from a diverse, international range of scholars and practitioners, this volume examines the ways laboratories of all kinds contribute to digital research and pedagogy. Acknowledging that they are emerging amid varied cultural and scientific traditions, the volume considers how they lead to the specification of digital humanities and how a locally situated knowledge production is embedded in the global infrastructure system. As a whole, the book consolidates the discussion on the role of the laboratory in DH and brings digital humanists into the interdisciplinary debate concerning the notion of a laboratory as a critical site in the generation of experimental knowledge. Positioning the discussion in relation to ongoing debates in DH, the volume argues that laboratory studies are in an excellent position to capitalize on the theories and knowledge developed in the DH field and open up new research inquiries. Digital Humanities and Laboratories clearly demonstrates that the laboratory is a key site for theoretical and political analyses of digital humanities and will thus be of interest to scholars, students and practitioners engaged in the study of DH, culture, media, heritage and infrastructure"--

Digital Techniques for Documenting and Preserving Cultural Heritage

Digital Techniques for Documenting and Preserving Cultural Heritage PDF Author: Anna Bentkowska-Kafel
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781641899444
Category : Cultural property
Languages : en
Pages : 306

Book Description
"In this unique collection the authors present a wide range of interdisciplinary methods to study, document, and conserve material cultural heritage. The methods used serve as exemplars of best practice with a wide variety of cultural heritage objects having been recorded, examined, and visualised. The objects range in date, scale, materials, and state of preservation and so pose different research questions and challenges for digitization, conservation, and ontological representation of knowledge. Heritage science and specialist digital technologies are presented in a way approachable to non-scientists, while a separate technical section provides details of methods and techniques, alongside examples of notable applications of spatial and spectral documentation of material cultural heritage, with selected literature and identification of future research. This book is an outcome of interdisciplinary research and debates conducted by the participants of the COST Action TD1201, Colour and Space in Cultural Heritage, 2012-16 and is an Open Access publication available under a CC BY-NC-ND licence."--Bloomsbury Publishing.
