The Little Black Book PDF Author: Barbara Kay Bucholtz

Pages : 148

Book Description
The Little Black Book is designed to fill a gap in law school pedagogy: the skills needed for succeeding in law school competitions. Law schools perpetually struggle with the need to fit an ever-expanding universe of both doctrinal studies and skills development into a finite curriculum. Training in competition skills inevitable gets squeezed and edited down, and sometimes even left on the cutting room floor. Yet students can benefit enormously from these competitions, as they provide a way for students to practice and develop skills that will benefit themselves and their clients once they enter the workforce. Part I of this manual is designed to guide the user in applying the analytical, writing, and research skills students learned (or are learning) in the first-year courses to the task of preparing an appellate brief. The manual does presuppose some background in legal analysis and persuasive argument. Part I also instructs students on developing and presenting an oral argument based on their briefs. Part II focuses on non-brief writing competitions, specifically the Client Counseling, Negotiation, and Mediation Competitions. Bucholtz, Frey, and Tatum have created a book that is easily adapted to a broad spectrum of instruction: individual, self-teaching, coach-student training, and classroom teaching. "At last, there is a guide for the uninitiated who need a concise guide on how to conduct themselves at law school competitions... This compact guide to student competitions should be required reading for coaches as well as student competitors." -- Bimonthly Review of Law Books, January/February 2003

Make It Your Own Law Firm

Make It Your Own Law Firm PDF Author: Spencer Marc Aronfeld
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1456733133
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 165

Book Description
In "Make It Your Own Law Firm: The Ultimate Law Student's Guide to Owning, Managing, and Marketing Your Own Successful Law Firm" Spencer Aronfeld writes a personal and revealing account on how to start your own law firm. Whether you are in law school, recently graduated or a practicing attorney thinking of establishing your own law firm, this book provides a step-by-step road map. Aronfeld started his own law practice upon graduation from law school. He provides practical advice that will enable anyone with a deep passion to practice law to become the lawyer that they always wanted to be. Here is what lawyers are saying: "Whether you have ever considered starting your own firm or simply want to improve your practice at your existing firm (whether big or small), I urge you to purchase the book Make It Your Own Law Firm by Spencer Aronfeld, a trial attorney in Miami, Florida. I recommend you buy it not so much for the helpful advice he gives on how to develop your practice (and theres plenty of that) but more for the writing. What Spencer does, which few non-fiction writers can do, is to move you emotionally. He tells stories and puts you in the middle of them with him and makes you feel what he did. It is a unique and valuable gift for a lawyer, because ultimately we are story-tellers and we are tasked not only to affect the jurors minds but also to touch their hearts. Spencers writing style demonstrates he is the consummate story-teller and his diction and cadence and style are worth emulating. So, buy the book. Yes, it has great practice tips. But buy it because you will see what great writing is about. Clear, direct, moving and effective. Keep writing Spencer." Frank Ramos, Esquire

Representing Yourself in Family Law

Representing Yourself in Family Law PDF Author: Beth Adams
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781519790705
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 126

Book Description
This book is intended to walk you through most of the procedures used in courts hearing family law cases for almost any cause of action (such as custody or divorce) in any state in the United States. It shows you how to find the specific information for your state and cause of action and explains common issues. Because the book is intended for all states and each individual state has different laws, there may be differences depending on where you are. I have tried to point out common differences between states and how to ensure you know what is required in your state. This book covers such information as the structure of the court system; how to locate statutes, rules, and case law; the discovery process; various documents used in court; how to prepare for mediation and trial; common evidence issues; and much more. Also, this is a beginner's guide. There are some very in-depth issues that most cases will likely at least touch on at some point. These in-depth issues are sometimes called "weeds." This book does not go into the weeds, which tend to be issue specific, though I do provide coaching services that can walk you through those. This book also only covers procedures at the trial court level and only through the trial. Post trial and appeal issues are very in-depth and could be the subject of their own book.
