Book Description
This Armenian language textbook is one-of-its kind, innovative tool for everyone who wants to learn Armenian from A to Z. It is easy, fun and culturally informative. It educates and unfolds a whole new world in front of the learners' eyes. I have written this textbook with the challenges of my students in mind and by utilizing most strategic methodologies of teaching foreign languages. The textbook consists of two parts. Part 1 is for complete beginners, where one learns the alphabet, basic dialogues accompanied by Latin transliteration, grammar and essential vocabulary. Part 2, on the other hand, is intended for intermediate learners. We have almost no transliteration in this Part and assume that the student is feeling more comfortable reading the Armenian letters. The units in Part 2 have more exercises, longer texts and teach richer vocabulary. The texts and dialogues include information about Armenian places of interest, famous writers and artists, historical facts, pictures. This way the student feels more engaged with the Armenian culture and does not simply learn a new foreign language. In the appendix, one can find a more elaborate vocabulary list, common Armenian proverbs, acronyms and useful expressions. We hope you enjoy your Armenian journey!

An Armenian Mediterranean

An Armenian Mediterranean PDF Author: Kathryn Babayan
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319728652
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 337

Book Description
This book rethinks the Armenian people as significant actors in the context of Mediterranean and global history. Spanning a millennium of cross-cultural interaction and exchange across the Mediterranean world, essays move between connected histories, frontier studies, comparative literature, and discussions of trauma, memory, diaspora, and visual culture. Contributors dismantle narrow, national ways of understanding Armenian literature; propose new frameworks for mapping the post-Ottoman Mediterranean world; and navigate the challenges of writing national history in a globalized age. A century after the Armenian genocide, this book reimagines the borders of the “Armenian,” pointing to a fresh vision for the field of Armenian studies that is omnivorously comparative, deeply interconnected, and rich with possibility.

A grammar of Iranian Armenian

A grammar of Iranian Armenian PDF Author: Hossep Dolatian
Publisher: Language Science Press
ISBN: 3961104190
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 228

Book Description
Iranian Armenian is the variety of spoken Armenian that was developed by Armenians in Tehran, Iran over the last few centuries. It has a substantial community of speakers in California. This variety or lect is called “Persian Armenian” [pɒɻskɒhɒjeɻen] or “Iranian Armenian” [iɻɒnɒhɒjeɻen] by members of the community. The present book is not a comprehensive grammar of the language. It occupies a gray zone between being a simple sketch versus a sizable grammar. We attempt to clarify the basic aspects of the language, such as its phoneme inventory, noticeable morphophonological processes, various inflectional paradigms, and some peculiar aspects of its syntax. We likewise provide a sample text of Iranian Armenian speech. Many aspects of this variety seem to be identical to Standard Eastern Armenian (SEA), so we tried to focus more on those aspects of Iranian Armenian which differ from SEA. The phonology has developed new phonemes and intonational contours due to contact with Persian. The morphophonology has grammaticalized allomorphic patterns that are phonosyntactic, meaning they reference syntactic information. Nominal morphology is largely identical to SEA but with some simplification of irregular processes. Verbal morphology is similar to SEA, but with major innovations in the aorist paradigm. The aorist or past perfective paradigm has undergone a change whereby irregular patterns have been reanalyzed as regular patterns. The syntax is largely the same as SEA, but with innovations due to contact with Persian, such as object clitics and the use of resumptive pronouns.
