Emergent Web Intelligence: Advanced Semantic Technologies

Emergent Web Intelligence: Advanced Semantic Technologies PDF Author: Youakim Badr
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1849960771
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 497

Book Description
The success of the World Wide Web depends on the ability of users to store, p- cess and retrieve digital information regardless of distance boundaries, languages and domains of knowledge. The universality and ?exibility of the World Wide Web have also enabled the rapid growth of a variety of new services and applications based on human–machine interaction. The semantics of exchanged information and services should be useful not only for human to human communications, but also in that machines would be able to understand and automatically process web content. Semanticsgive well-de?nedmeaningto web content and enable computersand p- ple to work in cooperation. Today, the crucial challenge becomes the development of languages to express information in a machine processable format. Now more than ever, new advanced techniques and intelligent approaches are required to tra- form the Web into a universal reasoning and computing machine. Web intelligence attempts to deal with this challenge by exploiting information technologies and - ti?cial intelligence approaches to design the next generation of web-empowered systems and services.

Book Description
rd The 3 International Conference on Computational Intelligence in Security for Information Systems (CISIS 2010) provided a broad and interdisciplinary forum to present the most recent developments in several very active scientific areas such as Machine Learning, Infrastructure Protection, Intelligent Methods in Energy and Transportation, Network Security, Biometry, Cryptography, High-performance and Grid Computing, and Industrial Perspective among others. The global purpose of CISIS series of conferences has been to form a broad and interdisciplinary meeting ground offering the opportunity to interact with the leading research team and industries actively involved in the critical area of security, and have a picture of the current solutions adopted in practical domains. This volume of Advances in Intelligence and Soft Computing contains accepted papers presented at CISIS 2010, which was held in León, Spain, on November 11–12, 2010. CISIS 2010 received over 50 technical submissions. After a thorough peer-review process, the International Program Committee - lected 25 papers which are published in this conference proceedings. This allowed the Scientific Committee to verify the vital and crucial nature of the topics - volved in the event, and resulted in an acceptance rate close to 50% of the ori- nally submitted manuscripts.

Emerging Trends and Applications in Cognitive Computing

Emerging Trends and Applications in Cognitive Computing PDF Author: Mallick, Pradeep Kumar
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 1522557946
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
Though an individual can process a limitless amount of information, the human brain can only comprehend a small amount of data at a time. Using technology can improve the process and comprehension of information, but the technology must learn to behave more like a human brain to employ concepts like memory, learning, visualization ability, and decision making. Emerging Trends and Applications in Cognitive Computing is a fundamental scholarly source that provides empirical studies and theoretical analysis to show how learning methods can solve important application problems throughout various industries and explain how machine learning research is conducted. Including innovative research on topics such as deep neural networks, cyber-physical systems, and pattern recognition, this collection of research will benefit individuals such as IT professionals, academicians, students, researchers, and managers.

Interactive Multimodal Information Management

Interactive Multimodal Information Management PDF Author: Hervé Bourlard
Publisher: EPFL Press
ISBN: 2940222711
Category : Reference
Languages : en
Pages : 369

Book Description
In the past twenty years, computers and networks have gained a prominent role in supporting human communications. This book presents recent research in multimodal information processing, which demonstrates that computers can achieve more than what telephone calls or videoconferencing can do. The book offers a snapshot of current capabilities for the analysis of human communications in several modalities – audio, speech, language, images, video, and documents – and for accessing this information interactively. The book has a clear application goal, which is the capture, automatic analysis, storage, and retrieval of multimodal signals from human interaction in meetings. This goal provides a controlled experimental framework and helps generating shared data, which is required for methods based on machine learning. This goal has shaped the vision of the contributors to the book and of many other researchers cited in it. It has also received significant long-term support through a series of projects, including the Swiss National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) in Interactive Multimodal Information Management (IM2), to which the contributors to the book have been connected.

Data Management and Query Processing in Semantic Web Databases

Data Management and Query Processing in Semantic Web Databases PDF Author: Sven Groppe
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642193579
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 270

Book Description
The Semantic Web, which is intended to establish a machine-understandable Web, is currently changing from being an emerging trend to a technology used in complex real-world applications. A number of standards and techniques have been developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), e.g., the Resource Description Framework (RDF), which provides a general method for conceptual descriptions for Web resources, and SPARQL, an RDF querying language. Recent examples of large RDF data with billions of facts include the UniProt comprehensive catalog of protein sequence, function and annotation data, the RDF data extracted from Wikipedia, and Princeton University’s WordNet. Clearly, querying performance has become a key issue for Semantic Web applications. In his book, Groppe details various aspects of high-performance Semantic Web data management and query processing. His presentation fills the gap between Semantic Web and database books, which either fail to take into account the performance issues of large-scale data management or fail to exploit the special properties of Semantic Web data models and queries. After a general introduction to the relevant Semantic Web standards, he presents specialized indexing and sorting algorithms, adapted approaches for logical and physical query optimization, optimization possibilities when using the parallel database technologies of today’s multicore processors, and visual and embedded query languages. Groppe primarily targets researchers, students, and developers of large-scale Semantic Web applications. On the complementary book webpage readers will find additional material, such as an online demonstration of a query engine, and exercises, and their solutions, that challenge their comprehension of the topics presented.
