Climate Change and Energy Dynamics in the Middle East
Author: Hassan Qudrat-Ullah
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030112020
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 376
Book Description
This edited volume presents chapters on the dynamics of global climate change and global warming in the Middle East. In this region, it should be noted that even slightly warmer weather can result in an increased demand of energy along with its lower supply, as well as lower labor productivity. This text focuses on modeling, simulation, system dynamics, and agent-based modeling in dealing with these issues. The latest decision making tools, techniques, and innovative solutions used to overcome these challenges are presented. Many distinguished researchers contribute their work herein. The audience for this volume includes policy makers, researchers, and students unified by the common goal of making better decisions in the sustainable production and consumption of energy. The practical orientation of the chapters within each part is intended to suit the practitioners: managers and decision makers in the energy sector of the Middle East region.

McNamara v. Energy Dynamics, Inc.
Author: Theresa D. Moore
Publisher: Aspen Publishing
ISBN: 1601568363
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 125
Book Description
A small local dairy farmer is pitted against a large energy company in this civil case for negligence. Energy Dynamics has developed a new chemical; this breakthrough unlocks precious resources, and untold millions of dollars, buried beneath a local community’s feet. But as local farmers like McNamara experience mysterious livestock deaths, will the breakthrough prove to be a dangerous breakout of a toxic chemical? The second edition of McNamara introduces additional media evidence to challenge students. Witnesses include a veterinarian, chemists, community members, and executives. Exhibits include electronic evidence of emails, mini depositions, pictures, press releases, transcripts of Town Hall meeting, Facebook posts on online “microsites,” as well as impeachment material for teams to strategically choose what to emphasize or downplay. The case is limited to four witnesses, for an efficient deposition or trial experience, but there is a rich variety of material to mine in this entertaining case file. Another entry in Theresa D. Moore’s Trial by Fire® legal case series of well balanced cases, with modern facts and evidence meant to ignite in students the passion to vigorously fight for their client. McNamara’s unique issues of the environment and public policy encourage participants to consider storytelling aspects of presenting technical information drawing decision-makers into a human understanding of events and scientific issues.

Dynamic Governance of Energy Technology Change
Author: Silvia Ulli-Beer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642397530
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 252
Book Description
Formulating effective responses to the global challenges of mitigating climate change and securing a sustainable energy future requires a clear understanding of the interdependent causalities between institutions, local decision making, strategic alliances and eco-innovations, as well as policies. It has been acknowledged that the linear “Manhattan project” model is not an adequate governance model for mastering the dynamic complexity of socio-technical transitions; therefore this book aims at advancing research on systematic transition management models. It offers qualitative and quantitative analyses of socio-technical transitions in road transportation and housing, bringing together tailored theorizing on sustainability transitions and applied system dynamics modeling. It highlights the interconnected causal feedbacks that are required to overcome the lock-in situation in road transportation and housing fueled by fossil energies. Showing which concerted actions and framework conditions are required in the transition phases in order to initiate and sustain socio-technical transition, it serves as a guide to model-based strategy making, policy design and analyses in support of sustainable futures.

The Theory of Info-Dynamics: Rational Foundations of Information-Knowledge Dynamics
Author: Kofi K. Dompere
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 331963853X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 192
Book Description
This book focuses on the development of a theory of info-dynamics to support the theory of info-statics in the general theory of information. It establishes the rational foundations of information dynamics and how these foundations relate to the general socio-natural dynamics from the primary to the derived categories in the universal existence and from the potential to the actual in the ontological space. It also shows how these foundations relate to the general socio-natural dynamics from the potential to the possible to give rise to the possibility space with possibilistic thinking; from the possible to the probable to give rise to possibility space with probabilistic thinking; and from the probable to the actual to give rise to the space of knowledge with paradigms of thought in the epistemological space. The theory is developed to explain the general dynamics through various transformations in quality-quantity space in relation to the nature of information flows at each variety transformation. The theory explains the past-present-future connectivity of the evolving information structure in a manner that illuminates the transformation problem and its solution in the never-ending information production within matter-energy space under socio-natural technologies to connect the theory of info-statics, which in turn presents explanations to the transformation problem and its solution. The theoretical framework is developed with analytical tools based on the principle of opposites, systems of actual-potential polarities, negative-positive dualities under different time-structures with the use of category theory, fuzzy paradigm of thought and game theory in the fuzzy-stochastic cost-benefit space. The rational foundations are enhanced with categorial analytics. The value of the theory of info-dynamics is demonstrated in the explanatory and prescriptive structures of the transformations of varieties and categorial varieties at each point of time and over time from parent–offspring sequences. It constitutes a general explanation of dynamics of information-knowledge production through info-processes and info-processors induced by a socio-natural infinite set of technologies in the construction–destruction space.

The Value of Arts for Business
Author: Giovanni Schiuma
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1139496654
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 313
Book Description
The traditional view of the relationship between business and the arts is very much a one-way affair: organisations may endorse, fund or publicise the arts but the arts have nothing to offer from a business perspective. The Value of Arts for Business challenges this view by showing how the arts, in the form of Arts-based Initiatives (ABIs), can be used to enhance value-creation capacity and boost business performance. The book introduces and explains three models that show how organisations can successfully implement and manage ABIs. Firstly, the Arts Value Matrix enables managers to see how organisational value-drivers are affected by ABIs. Secondly, the Arts Benefits Constellation shows how to assess the benefits of using ABIs. Finally, the Arts Value Map shows how ABIs can be integrated and aligned with organisational strategy and operations. These models lay the foundations for a new research area exploring the links between arts and business.
