Probability Distributions Involving Gaussian Random Variables

Probability Distributions Involving Gaussian Random Variables PDF Author: Marvin K. Simon
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387476946
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 218

Book Description
This handbook, now available in paperback, brings together a comprehensive collection of mathematical material in one location. It also offers a variety of new results interpreted in a form that is particularly useful to engineers, scientists, and applied mathematicians. The handbook is not specific to fixed research areas, but rather it has a generic flavor that can be applied by anyone working with probabilistic and stochastic analysis and modeling. Classic results are presented in their final form without derivation or discussion, allowing for much material to be condensed into one volume.

Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures

Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures PDF Author: Halil Karadeniz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1849961905
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 424

Book Description
Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures provides a clear and detailed guide to advanced analysis methods of fixed offshore steel structures using 3D beam finite elements under random wave and earthquake loadings. Advanced and up-to-date research results are coupled with modern analysis methods and essential theoretical information to consider optimal solutions to structural issues. As these methods require and use knowledge of different subject matters, a general introduction to the key areas is provided. This is followed by in-depth explanations supported by design examples, relevant calculations and supplementary material containing related computer programmers. By combining this theoretical and practical approach Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures cover a range of key concepts in detail including: The basic principles of standard 3D beam finite elements and special connections, Wave loading - from hydrodynamics to the calculation of wave loading on structural members, Stochastic response calculations with corresponding solution algorithms including earthquakes, and Fatigue damage, reliability calculation and reliability based design optimization. The broad and detailed coverage makes this a solid reference for research oriented studies and practical sophisticated design methods. Students, researchers, insuring bodies and practical designer offices can turn to Stochastic Analysis of Offshore Steel Structures to broaden their theoretical understanding and develop their practical designs and applications of 3D finite analysis in fixed offshore steel structures.

Integrated Uncertainty in Knowledge Modelling and Decision Making

Integrated Uncertainty in Knowledge Modelling and Decision Making PDF Author: Van-Nam Huynh
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 331925135X
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 490

Book Description
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Integrated Uncertainty in Knowledge Modeling and Decision Making, IUKM 2015, held in Nha Trang, Vietnam, in October 2015. The papers provide a wealth of new ideas and report both theoretical and applied research on integrated uncertainty modeling and management

Vector Generalized Linear and Additive Models

Vector Generalized Linear and Additive Models PDF Author: Thomas W. Yee
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 149392818X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 589

Book Description
This book presents a greatly enlarged statistical framework compared to generalized linear models (GLMs) with which to approach regression modelling. Comprising of about half-a-dozen major classes of statistical models, and fortified with necessary infrastructure to make the models more fully operable, the framework allows analyses based on many semi-traditional applied statistics models to be performed as a coherent whole. Since their advent in 1972, GLMs have unified important distributions under a single umbrella with enormous implications. However, GLMs are not flexible enough to cope with the demands of practical data analysis. And data-driven GLMs, in the form of generalized additive models (GAMs), are also largely confined to the exponential family. The methodology here and accompanying software (the extensive VGAM R package) are directed at these limitations and are described comprehensively for the first time in one volume. This book treats distributions and classical models as generalized regression models, and the result is a much broader application base for GLMs and GAMs. The book can be used in senior undergraduate or first-year postgraduate courses on GLMs or categorical data analysis and as a methodology resource for VGAM users. In the second part of the book, the R package VGAM allows readers to grasp immediately applications of the methodology. R code is integrated in the text, and datasets are used throughout. Potential applications include ecology, finance, biostatistics, and social sciences. The methodological contribution of this book stands alone and does not require use of the VGAM package.

Handbook of Research on Computational Science and Engineering: Theory and Practice

Handbook of Research on Computational Science and Engineering: Theory and Practice PDF Author: Leng, J.
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 161350117X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 987

Book Description
By using computer simulations in research and development, computational science and engineering (CSE) allows empirical inquiry where traditional experimentation and methods of inquiry are difficult, inefficient, or prohibitively expensive. The Handbook of Research on Computational Science and Engineering: Theory and Practice is a reference for interested researchers and decision-makers who want a timely introduction to the possibilities in CSE to advance their ongoing research and applications or to discover new resources and cutting edge developments. Rather than reporting results obtained using CSE models, this comprehensive survey captures the architecture of the cross-disciplinary field, explores the long term implications of technology choices, alerts readers to the hurdles facing CSE, and identifies trends in future development.
