Book Description
This monograph consists of two volumes and provides a unified, comprehensive presentation of the important topics pertaining to the understanding and determination of the mechanical behaviour of engineering materials under different regimes of loading. The large subject area is separated into eighteen chapters and four appendices, all self-contained, which give a complete picture and allow a thorough understanding of the current status and future direction of individual topics. Volume I contains eight chapters and three appendices, and concerns itself with the basic concepts pertaining to the entire monograph, together with the response behaviour of engineering materials under static and quasi-static loading. Thus, Volume I is dedicated to the introduction, the basic concepts and principles of the mechanical response of engineering materials, together with the relevant analysis of elastic, elastic-plastic, and viscoelastic behaviour. Volume II consists of ten chapters and one appendix, and concerns itself with the mechanical behaviour of various classes of materials under dynamic loading, together with the effects of local and microstructural phenomena on the response behaviour of the material. Volume II also contains selected topics concerning intelligent material systems, and pattern recognition and classification methodology for the characterization of material response states. The monograph contains a large number of illustrations, numerical examples and solved problems. The majority of chapters also contain a large number of review problems to challenge the reader. The monograph can be used as a textbook in science and engineering, for third and fourth undergraduate levels, as well as for the graduate levels. It is also a definitive reference work for scientists and engineers involved in the production, processing and applications of engineering materials, as well as for other professionals who are involved in the engineering design process.

Book Description
Dynamic Behavior of Materials: Fundamentals, Material Models, and Microstructure Effects provides readers with the essential knowledge and tools necessary to determine best practice design, modeling, simulation and application strategies for a variety of materials while also covering the fundamentals of how material properties and behavior are affected by material structure and high strain rates. The book examines the relationships between material microstructure and consequent mechanical properties, enabling the development of materials with improved performance and more effective design of parts and components for high-rate applications. Sections cover the fundamentals of dynamic material behavior, with chapters studying dynamic elasticity and wave propagation, dynamic plasticity of crystalline materials, ductile fracture, brittle fracture, adiabatic heating and strain localization, response to shock loading, various material characterization methods, such as the Hopkinson Bar Technique, the Taylor Impact Experiment, different shock loading experiments, recent advances in dynamic material behavior, the dynamic behaviors of nanocrystalline materials, bulk metallic glasses, additively manufactured materials, ceramics, concrete and concrete-reinforced materials, geomaterials, polymers, composites, and biomaterials, and much more. Focuses on the relationship between material microstructure and resulting mechanical responses Covers the fundamentals, characterization methods, modeling techniques, applications and recent advances of the dynamic behavior of a broad array of materials Includes insights into manufacturing and processing techniques that enable more effective material design and application

Book Description
This book provides an up-to-date knowledge on theory and experimental results of rate-dependent fracture processes in metallic materials. The objective is to expose the current status of a growing branch of fracture mechanics called generally "Dynamic Fracture". Crack dynamics takes into account not only the effects of inertia but also rate sensitivity of a material under consideration. This volume has been prepared by four leading authorities in fracture dynamics: D.R. Curran, J.F. Kalthoff, J.R. Klepaczko and F. Nilsson. A broad range of problem is covered: dynamic fracture theory, application of dynamic fracture mechanics, dynamic crack inition and microstatistical fracture mechanics in dynamic fracture. The book in its present format may serve as a text supplement in lecturing on fracture mechanics. On the other hand, it may serve as an instructional aid in engineering of fracture prevention.

Book Description
Fundamental guidance—including concepts, models, and methodology—for better understanding the dynamic behavior of materials and for designing for objects and structures under impact or intensive dynamic loading This book introduces readers to the dynamic response of structures with important emphasis on the material behavior under dynamic loadings. It utilizes theoretical modelling and analytical methods in order to provide readers with insight into the various phenomena. The content of the book is an introduction to the fundamental aspects, which underpin many important industrial areas. These areas include the safety of various transportation systems and a range of different structures when subjected to various impact and dynamic loadings, including terrorist attacks. Presented in three parts—Stress Waves in Solids, Dynamic Behaviors of Materials Under High Strain Rate, and Dynamic Response of Structures to Impact and Pulse Loading—Introduction to Impact Dynamics covers elastic waves, rate dependent behaviors of materials, effects of tensile force, inertial effects, and more. The book also features numerous case studies to aid in facilitating learning. The strength of the book is its clarity, balanced coverage, and practical examples, which allow students to learn the overall knowledge of impact dynamics in a limited time whilst directing them to explore more advanced technical knowledge and skills. Considers both the dynamic behavior of materials and stress waves, and the dynamic structural response and energy absorption, emphasizing the interaction between material behavior and the structural response Provides a comprehensive description of the phenomenon of impact of structures, containing both fundamental issues of wave propagation and constitutive relation of materials, and the dynamic response of structures under impact loads Based on the authors’ research and teaching experience as well as updated developments in the field Introduction to Impact Dynamics is the perfect textbook for graduate and postgraduate students, and will work as a reference for engineers in the fields of solid mechanics, automotive design, aerospace, mechanical, nuclear, marine, and defense.
