Book Description
The editors of this book provide a forum for discussion on innovations in clinical applied physiology, the technology and management of anaesthetics, and the non-invasive monitoring of neuro-vegetative functions. Attention is focused on new physiological concepts of cardiovascular and respiratory control, with an innovative approach to the analysis of the neurovegetative state in man and its clinical application. New developments in the closed circuit anaesthesia system via infrared-spectrometry and oxymeters as well as breath-by-breath monitoring of gas-uptake are demonstrated, and new insight into the physics of circulation is given. Topics in the final chapters cover haemodilution with blood substitutes, new inhalant anaesthetic agents, imaging technique highlights, and new data on metabolism in multiple organ failure.

Oxygen Transport to Tissue XIV

Oxygen Transport to Tissue XIV PDF Author: Wilhelm Erdmann
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461534283
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 880

Book Description
The International Society on Oxygen Transport to Tissue (IS OTT) was founded in 1973 as a scientific society providing a forum for bioengineers, basic scientists (physiologists, biochemists and physicists) and clinicians (including anesthesiologists, intensive care specialists, pediatricians, neonatologists, internists, surgeons and other specialists) to facilitate the exchange of scientific information among those interested in any aspect of the transport and/or utilization of oxygen in tissues. From the ranks of its members, many fundamental discoveries and inventions have been made involving the many aspects of oxygen transport and utilization by biological tissues. The ISOTT proceed ings, now in its 14th edition, has become a standard work in the field as witnessed by the inclusion in the Science Citation Index of all volumes published so far. The 19th ISOTT Meeting was held in Cura~ao from August 24th through August 30th, 1991. The Cura~ao Meeting attracted 145 registrants and 45 accompanying persons. The format originated by Dr. Ian Llngmuir in 1985, consisting of posters ac companied by an abbreviated oral summary, was again successfully handled with slight modifications. The meeting was introduced by 6 review lectures covering the whole field of oxygen transport from bioengineering, the problem of diffusion in lung, blood and tissue through pathology of oxygen uptake in the lung, oxygen supply dependency of the critically ill to artificial oxygen carriers. A special session dealt with oxygen sup ply under ambiant pressure changes.

Temporal Variations of the Cardiovascular System

Temporal Variations of the Cardiovascular System PDF Author: Thomas F.H. Schmidt
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662027488
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 401

Book Description
Although it is widely recognized that there are significant variations in the circulation throughout the 24-hour day, these patterns have often been conceived as nuisance variables rather than functional differences. Responses of the circulation are examined here not as stable phenomena, but as integrated functions highly sensitive to environmental conditions, and driven by internal and external pacesetters. In this volume, cardiologists with a primary interest in hypertension or heart disease, chronobiologists, and psychologists join together for the first time to give the reader the opportunity to learn the extent and clinical significance of these changes from a chronobiological, behavioral and physiological perspective.

Anaesthesia — Innovations in Management

Anaesthesia — Innovations in Management PDF Author: Roland Droh

Pages : 248

Book Description
R. Droh Ladies and gentlemen. dear friends and colleagues. we welcome you very cordially to our symposium "Innovations in Management and Technic and Pharmacol ogy". We are very glad that you have come to Liidenscheid and we do hope that our programme will fulfil your expectations. We decided to hold this symposium, because it is getting more and more dif ficult to select innovations at international congresses around the world which are important for our clinical work. Now and in the future our intention is to present the actual state of technology. management and pharmacology. We would be very glad to receive your suggestions for further symposia. The industry has the same problems as we have. They do not only have to search for those things which can be realized and which are desirable, but also for those things which can be sold. But the industry must also be stimulated by the inventors and by the users, so we want to bring together the industry, the physicians and the inventors for fruitful discussions. And we hope that in the fu ture the industry will provide us more quickly with those technical and organiz ational aids that we need. We want the indu~try no longer running behind the market but heading the market. At present too many interesting developments are killed by so-called market analysis, in the beliefing that such analysis can always prove what cannot be sold. In anaesthesia many companies are always busy with the same product.
