Book Description
Intertemporal macroeconomics links microeconomics and growth theory methods. The effects of policies are examined as the dynamic interaction between decisions of agents and policy interventions. The book explores the two basic approaches of models of infinitely-lived agents (Cass-Ramsey-Koopmans approach) and models of overlapping-generations (Allais-Fisher-Samuelson approach). Controversial questions concerning monetary models and monetary policies are also considered in a systematic way. The book also introduces both real models and monetary models of endogenous growth.

Monetary Growth Theory

Monetary Growth Theory PDF Author: Wei-Bin Zhang
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1134043724
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 395

Book Description
This book answers some challenging questions in monetary growth theory within a compact theoretical framework. The author succeeds in integrating the theory of money, the theory of value and the theory of growth. The book re-examines many important ideas in modern monetary economics within a single analytical framework. It is concerned not only with traditional one-sector growth models of a homogeneous population with endogenous capital and knowledge, but also with multi-sector models, economies with heterogeneous households, and economies with urban structures, interregional interactions and international trade. Zhang’s book will appeal to those studying monetary economics, neoclassical growth theory, development economics and international economics. It is also useful more generally, for researchers in social sciences with an interest in the role of money in modern societies.

Integrated Macro-Micro-Modelling Under Rational Expectations

Integrated Macro-Micro-Modelling Under Rational Expectations PDF Author: Michael Malakellis
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783790812749
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive account of the theoretical structures, database, computation and application of ORANI-INT. ORANI-INT is a multi-period elaboration of ORANI, a well-known computable general equilibrium model of the Australian economy. The implications of assuming that expectations are model consistent are contrasted with those of the alternative assumption that expectations are static. A generic algorithm for solving a wide range of economic models is described in detail. The algorithm is portable because it is implemented in GEMPACK, a commercially available software package. The major application reported in the book addresses the issue whether tariff reform policies should be announced ahead of their implementation. Many of the multisectoral models used throughout the world are static. The methodology presented in the book demonstrates that such models can be easily embedded into an intertemporal framework.

Asset Prices, Booms and Recessions

Asset Prices, Booms and Recessions PDF Author: Willi Semmler
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642206808
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 333

Book Description
The financial market melt-down of the years 2007-2009 has posed great challenges for studies on financial economics. This financial economics text focuses on the dynamic interaction of financial markets and economic activity. The financial market to be studied here encompasses the money and bond market, credit market, stock market and foreign exchange market; economic activity includes the actions and interactions of firms, banks, households, governments and countries. The book shows how economic activity affects asset prices and the financial market, and how asset prices and financial market volatility and crises impact economic activity. The book offers extensive coverage of new and advanced topics in financial economics such as the term structure of interest rates, credit derivatives and credit risk, domestic and international portfolio theory, multi-agent and evolutionary approaches, capital asset pricing beyond consumption-based models, and dynamic portfolio decisions. Moreover a completely new section of the book is dedicated to the recent financial market meltdown of the years 2007-2009. Emphasis is placed on empirical evidence relating to episodes of financial instability and financial crises in the U.S. and in Latin American, Asian and Euro-area countries. Overall, the book explains what researchers and practitioners in the financial sector need to know about the financial-real interaction, and what practitioners and policy makers need to know about the financial market.
