Isaiah Homiletics Workbook

Isaiah Homiletics Workbook PDF Author: Terri L Richards
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1449706703
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 267

Book Description
Homiletics can be done on any book of the Bible, and any chapter of the Bible. It is a way to break down the Scripture to understand it's meaning. First, as God Himself said in His Word one must have the Holy Spirit to understand the Scripture. In II Corinthians 2:14 the Lord talks about the man without the Spirit of God indwelling him or her and how they are Spiritually discerned. So, the first step in understanding God's Word is to have Him through His Holy Spirit indwelling you. The Scripture is very clear about how this is done, there is only One way. In John 14, Jesus says, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life and no man can come to the Father except through Me." Belief in the Lord Jesus Christ as being God's perfect Lamb who has taken away the sin of the world is the only way one can be saved from the wrath of God and have His Spirit come to dwell within. Once you have His Holy Spirit indwelling you, then you have the One who wrote it living inside you to teach you its exact meaning and how to apply the Holy Scriptures to your life. Homiletics is an excellent way to spend time with the Father and let Him teach you his word. In doing Homiletics you will break the passage down into content, division sentences, a subject sentence, an overall aim of this passage, and then application questions to apply the Scripture to your life.

Singing and Suffering with the Servant

Singing and Suffering with the Servant PDF Author: David M. Stark
Publisher: Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht
ISBN: 3647573469
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 314

Book Description
The Old Testament is transformed from problem to ally when preachers attend to power at work in ancient and modern contexts by mirroring Second Isaiah's proclamation, listening to contemporary servant Israel, and learning from African American preaching in context of domination. This book analyses the impact of domination on Old Testament proclamation and thus leads to several unique contributions. Firstly, it reads Second Isaiah as a homiletic model for proclaiming older (pre-exilic) texts in response to exilic domination. Secondly, it treats the Old Testament as a rich resource for confronting racism and anti-Semitism though teaching and it introduces contemporary Christian-Jewish dialogue in Germany as a model for the Church. Lastly, it highlights preaching traditions within the African American Church as instructive for formulating an effective Old Testament preaching strategy.

Homiletical Theology in Action

Homiletical Theology in Action PDF Author: David Schnasa Jacobsen
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1498207847
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 208

Book Description
Homiletics is taking a theological turn. But what does the preaching task look like if we think of it not so much as a mastery of technique, but an exercise in theological method? Homiletical Theology in Action: The Unfinished Theological Task of Preaching tries to envision the work of homiletics as theological in root and branch. By placing theological questions at the center of the process, the authors, some of the leading lights of the field of homiletics, try to show how their work as preachers and homileticians is a thoroughgoing theological activity. By beginning with troublesome texts and problematic doctrines, they seek to show how preachers and homileticians engage in theology, not as consumers, but as producers--and in the thick of the kinds of questions that preachers have to ask. Practitioners and theological educators alike will catch a glimpse of how they too are residential theologians in their own preaching praxis.
