Book Description
Metanoia: A Catholic Book Series, Book Number Two: Prayer and the Tingling Grace (Second Edition) is the author’s second publication in a series of Catholic books. In Prayer and the Tingling Grace (Second Edition), the author sets forth his experience with what he calls the tingling grace. The tingling grace is a “grace of prayer,” according to one of the author’s past confessors, a Carmelite priest. As such, it has most commonly been experienced by novice monks and nuns, during prayer. However, according to the Carmelite priest, about five percent of lay Catholics also experience it. In the pages that follow, the author recounts his understanding of and experiences with the tingling grace, a sensible manifestation of actual grace given by a loving and guiding God to encourage the performance of salvific and salutary acts, such as prayer, blessings, frequenting the sacraments, spiritual reading, spiritual and corporeal works of mercy, and discernment for the priesthood. He is publishing it to testify and/or witness to this amazing actual grace and God’s love, sanctification, and guidance of ordinary Catholics, in light of the current crisis of faith inside and outside the Church. Finally, this book is part of the author’s lay apostolate of Roman Catholic witness to the reality, power, and transforming/saving Love of God, as well as the author’s response to and promotion of the Church’s “universal call to holiness” (Lumen Gentium) and the “new evangelization” (Novo Millenio Ineunte), in the electronically and globally connected virtual world of the Internet.

Father Ed Dowling

Father Ed Dowling PDF Author: Glenn F. Chesnut
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 1491770872
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 650

Book Description
The story of Father Ed Dowling, S.J., the Jesuit priest who served for twenty years as sponsor and spiritual guide to Bill Wilson, the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. An icy evening in December 1940 saw the first meeting of two extraordinary spiritual leaders. Father Ed said that the graces he received from meeting Bill Wilson were as great as those he had received from his ordination as a priest, and Bill in turn described encountering the Jesuit as being like a second conversion experience, where he could feel the transcendent presence of God filling the entire room with grace. The good priest taught Wilson about St. Ignatius Loyolas Spiritual Exercises, about the eternal battle between good and evil which the Spanish saint described in that book, and explained the Jesuit understanding of the way we can use our deepest emotions to receive guidance from God while serving on that battlefield. The co-founder of the twelve step movement in turn supplied Father Ed with some of the most valuable tools he possessed for carrying out small group therapy on a wide range of different kinds of troubled people. Together the two men discussed Poulains Graces of Interior Prayer and Bills attempts to make spiritual contact with both spooks and saints, and explored the world of LSD experiences and the teachings of the Catholic, Hindu, and Buddhist mystics in Aldous Huxleys Perennial Philosophy. And we will see how Father Ed, with his deep social conscience, helped Bill W. turn his book on the Twelve Traditions into a Bill of Rights for the twelve step movement, and how he laid out his own spiritual vision of Alcoholics Anonymous at the A.A. International in St. Louis in 1955.

The Gospel of the Christ

The Gospel of the Christ PDF Author: Thomas Lewis Stegall
Publisher: Grace Gospel Press
ISBN: 0979963745
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 815

Book Description
The Gospel of the Christ is a clear, biblical reply to the question of what a person must believe about Jesus Christ to possess eternal life. While Christianity has historically maintained that faith in Jesus Christ is essential for everlasting life, this raises the vital question: what is the necessary content of this faith? Written against the backdrop of the controversy within Free Grace circles over the "crossless gospel" and the contents of saving faith, Thomas Stegall goes well beyond a carefully documented analysis of his own movement. The Gospel of the Christ provides a systematic, exegetically-based treatment of biblical teaching on the subject of "the gospel" and the meaning of the title, "the Christ." The end result is a comprehensive biblical and theological study of Jesus Christ's person and work in the contents of saving faith.

ISBN: 3374048412
Category : Religion
Languages : de
Pages : 161

Book Description
The sixteenth-century Reformation transformed the church and society at large and its key theological insights had a concrete impact on the socio-political and economic spheres. Luther and his fellow reformers reconfigured Christian theology as they explored the liberating concept of justification by grace through faith as a core axiom of theological reflection. Lutheran and other churches of the Reformation continue to be empowered, informed and inspired by these insights, also with regard to their public role in today's societies. In light of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, eminent theologians and scholars from all parts of the world offer their insights into the interaction between theological thinking, economics and politics in the twenty-first century. Jahrhundert.

In Permission Granted, Jennifer Grace Bird encourages people of faith to explore the texts on their own, freed from long-held myths and misconceptions; experience the Bible anew; and appreciate this holy book for what it isâ€"not what we think it should be. With the sensitivity of one who has discovered this freedom herself, Bird invites readers to engage what the Bible really says about twelve key issues, including sin, sex, and the role of women.
