Book Description
Innovations in technology and new therapies have changed the face of medicine in the last few decades. These include advances in fetal diagnosis (preimplantation genetics, chorionic villous sampling and amniocentesis), drugs that have been developed to treat unique conditions in neonates such as respiratory distress syndrome (surfactant) and pulmonary hypertension (inhaled nitric oxide), as well as technological advances and interventions resulting in diagnostic (ultrasounds and MRI) and therapeutic interventions (intrauterine transfusion to ECMO). The primary purpose of Innovations in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine is to highlight these innovations in technology and therapy that have not only changed the way doctors deliver care to fetus and neonate but also reduced neonatal mortality thereby saving millions of lives in the process. Book Description: The end of 2015 has brought the end of WHO's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which have achieved a significant, though patchy improvement in global maternal and child health. The new-born health and stillbirths were not on the global agenda of MDGs. Hence, the global burden of neonatal and perinatal mortality remained largely unchanged. With the dawn of 2016, the world has entered into the new era of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs mandates all nations to reduce neonatal mortality rate to 12 per 1000 live births by 2030. Nations worldwide have committed to this in a major way. With this in mind, it is important to understand the current burden of global neonatal and perinatal mortality, as its risk factors and interventions required to reach the SDG target by 2030. This book on neonatal perinatal mortality provides a comprehensive and systematic review by panels of experts from well recognised institutions worldwide on the current status, determinants of neonatal perinatal deaths and the interventions needed to reduce these deaths worldwide. It is a must read for global health students and experts, paediatricians, neonatologists, perinatologists, obstetricians, public health professionals, health care strategists, health care funding agencies, government and non-government health care providers, academicians, researchers, nurses, midwives, community health care workers, medical students and medical academics. Target Audience: Global Health students and experts, Pediatricians, Neonatologists, Perinatologists, Obstetricians, Public Health Professionals, Health care strategists, Health care Funding agencies, Government and Non-Government health care providers, Academicians, Researchers, Nurses, Midwives, community health care workers, medical students, academic institutions
