Quantum Theory of Condensed Matter

Quantum Theory of Condensed Matter PDF Author: Bertrand I. Halperin
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814304468
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 261

Book Description
Ever since 1911, the Solvay Conferences have shaped modern physics. The 24th edition chaired by Bertrand Halperin did not break the tradition. Held in October 2008, it gathered in Brussels most of the leading figures working on the ?quantum theory of condensed matter?, addressing some of the most profound open problems in the field. The proceedings contain the ?rapporteur talks? giving a broad overview with unique insights by distinguished renowned scientists. These lectures cover the five sessions treating: mesoscopic and disordered systems; exotic phases and quantum phase transitions in model systems; experimentally realized correlated-electron materials; quantum Hall systems, and one-dimensional systems; systems of ultra-cold atoms, and advanced computational methods. In the Solvay tradition, the proceedings include also the prepared comments to the rapporteur talks. The discussions among the participants ? some of which are quite lively and involving dramatically divergent points of view ? have been carefully edited and reproduced in full.

Very High Multiplicity Physics Workshops

Very High Multiplicity Physics Workshops PDF Author: A. N. Sisakian
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812834958
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
This proceedings volume provides a comprehensive overview of the selected reports given at the International Workshops on Very High Multiplicity Physics from 2000 through 2007. These include results of original investigations dedicated to very high multiplicity processes, collective phenomena in quark gluon plasma, correlator analyses, polarization effects, and pion gas condensation, among others. The greater part of the material is devoted to basic technical aspects of the NICA/MPD project. Essential attention is paid to predictions of the multiperipheral model, perturbative QCD, physics of small x, and fractal analysis and statistical physics approaches to multiple production. The book is an important reference for physicists working in elementary particle physics. It is also a suitable read for undergraduate students.

Recent Progress in Many-body Theories

Recent Progress in Many-body Theories PDF Author: Joseph A. Carlson
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812772898
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 285

Book Description
Quantum many-body theory has greatly expanded its scope and depth over the past few years, treating more deeply long-standing issues like phase transitions and strongly-correlated systems, and simultaneously expanding into new areas such as cold atom physics and quantum information. This collection of contributions highlights recent advances in all these areas by leaders in their respective fields. Also included are some historic perspectives by L P Gor'kov and S T Belyaev, Feenberg Medal Recipients at this conference, and Nobel Laureate P W Anderson gives his unique outlook on the future of physics. The volume covers the key topics in many-body theory, tied together through advances in theoretical tools and computational techniques, and a unifying theme of fundamental approaches to quantum many-body physics. Contents: Feenberg Medal Session: Surface and Superconductivity (L P Gor'kov); The Future Lies Ahead (P W Anderson); Strongly Correlated Systems and Phase Transitions: Quantum Matters: Physics Beyond Landau's Paradigms (T Senthil); Recent Applications of the DMRG Method (K Hallberg); Quantum Fluids and Solids: Monolayer Charged Quantum Films: A Quantum Simulation Study (K Wierschem & E Manousakis); Analysis of the Interatomic Potential of the Helium Systems (S Ujevic & S A Vitiello); Nuclear Physics and QCD: Quantum Phase Transitions in Mesoscopic Systems (F Iachello); New Approaches to Strong Coupling Lattice QCD (S Chandrasekharan); Cold Atoms and Quantum Information: Superfluid Regimes in Degenerate Atomic Fermi Gases (G V Shlyapnikov); Bosons in Optical Lattices (S L Rolston); Complex Systems: Spin Textures and Random Fields in Dirty Quantum Hall Ferromagnets (J T Chalker); Dissipative Quantum Disordered Models (L F Cugliandolo); and other papers. Quantum Groups

Quantum Groups PDF Author: Petr P. Kulish
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783540553052
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 408

Book Description
The theory of Quantum Groups is a rapidly developing area with numerous applications in mathematics and theoretical physics, e.g. in link and knot invariants in topology, q-special functions, conformal field theory, quantum integrable models. The aim of the Euler Institute's workshops was to review and compile the progress achieved in the different subfields. Near 100 participants came from 14 countries. More than 20 contributions written up for this book contain new, unpublished material and half of them include a survey of recent results in the field (deformation theory, graded differential algebras, contraction technique, knot invariants, q-special functions). Principles of Phase Structures in Particle Physics

Principles of Phase Structures in Particle Physics PDF Author: Hildegard Meyer-Ortmanns
Publisher: World Scientific Publishing Company
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 708

Book Description
10(-10) sec after the big bang, when the universe cooled down to the order of 1015 Kelvin, the electroweak phase transition led to a spontaneous breaking of the symmetry between electromagnetic and weak interactions. 10(-6) sec later, at a temperature of the order of tera degrees, the QCD transition confined the free quarks and gluons to mesons and baryons in the hadronic phase of the present world. This book is about the analytical and numerical methods used to investigate these transitions within the framework of quantum field theory at finite temperature in a continuum formulation and on the lattice. The topics covered include the renormalization group approach in a perturbative and non-perturbative realization, dimensional reduction, asymptotic and convergent expansions in quantities such as strong and weak couplings, high temperatures, and small momenta. One particular case revolves around computer-aided generations of high-order hopping parameter series.
