Book Description
Excerpt from Practical Notes on the Treatment of Deformities Having held the office of Resident House Surgeon to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital for ten years, and having been also, during a great part of that time, assistant-surgeon, I have enjoyed considerable opportunities of studying practically the different kinds of deformities that have passed through the Hospital. It is not my object to repeat, with respect to the pathology or causes of deformities, what has been so well written in other works on Orthopaedic Surgery, but rather to state, in a short space, what methods of treatment I have found from personal experience to be best adapted for the relief or cure of the more common forms; pointing out where I myself have found most difficulties, and what means I have found best calculated to surmount them. Bodily Deformities and Their Treatment

Bodily Deformities and Their Treatment PDF Author: Henry Albert Reeves
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780365030263
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 486

Book Description
Excerpt from Bodily Deformities and Their Treatment: A Handbook Practical Orthopædics This work is the first of a series which was projected some time since, and is, I believe, the original instance of a collection of monographs on the various departments of Surgery, Medicine, and Gynecology of a comprehensive and concise character, at a reasonable price, intended for publication in this country. That the idea is a good one is evidenced by the announcement of a similar series some time after the present one was arranged. With the exception of works on some of the sections of Orthopædic Surgery by well-known Orthoæpdic veterans, no book of an authoritative character, i.e., founded on a large, special and general experience, has, for many years, appeared in Great Britain. Indeed, so far as I know, there is no work in any language dealing with orthopædics in its modern sense. This gap I have endeavoured to fill, and though no one can, or should be, more conscious of the difficulty of doing justice to a rapidly-growing surgical specialty than the author, yet - if he like his subject - his labour becomes lightened by the reflection that honest work, however imperfect, will meet with its meed of appreciation in candid minds. Book Description
Excerpt from The Surgery of Deformities: A Manual for Students and Practitioners IN the preparation of this manual my intention has been to produce a practical and useful guide to the diagnosis and treatment of Deformities of the Human Body. I have, there fore, confined myself as much as possible to the discussion of those methods of treatment from which I have witnessed the best results, both in my own practice and in that of other surgeons. I have not neglected to acquaint myself with the various standard works and monographs which treat, either incidentally or Specially, of Orthopaedic Surgery; thus I have collected together most of the more important improvements in practice and additions to our knowledge which have been. Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment

Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment PDF Author: National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309670950
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 319

Book Description
The Social Security Administration (SSA) administers two programs that provide disability benefits: the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. SSDI provides disability benefits to people (under the full retirement age) who are no longer able to work because of a disabling medical condition. SSI provides income assistance for disabled, blind, and aged people who have limited income and resources regardless of their prior participation in the labor force. Both programs share a common disability determination process administered by SSA and state agencies as well as a common definition of disability for adults: "the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months." Disabled workers might receive either SSDI benefits or SSI payments, or both, depending on their recent work history and current income and assets. Disabled workers might also receive benefits from other public programs such as workers' compensation, which insures against work-related illness or injuries occurring on the job, but those other programs have their own definitions and eligibility criteria. Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment identifies and defines the professionally accepted, standard measurements of outcomes improvement for medical conditions. This report also identifies specific, long-lasting medical conditions for adults in the categories of mental health disorders, cancers, and musculoskeletal disorders. Specifically, these conditions are disabling for a length of time, but typically don't result in permanently disabling limitations; are responsive to treatment; and after a specific length of time of treatment, improve to the point at which the conditions are no longer disabling.
