Safety of Nuclear Power Plants

Safety of Nuclear Power Plants PDF Author: International Atomic Energy Agency
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789201215109
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
On the basis of the principles included in the Fundamental Safety Principles, IAEA Safety Standards Series No. SF-1, this Safety Requirements publication establishes requirements applicable to the design of nuclear power plants. It covers the design phase and provides input for the safe operation of the power plant. It elaborates on the safety objective, safety principles and concepts that provide the basis for deriving the safety requirements that must be met for the design of a nuclear power plant. Contents: 1. Introduction; 2. Applying the safety principles and concepts; 3. Management of safety in design; 4. Principal technical requirements; 5. General plant design; 6. Design of specific plant systems.

Design Extension Conditions and the Concept of Practical Elimination in the Design of Nuclear Power Plants

Design Extension Conditions and the Concept of Practical Elimination in the Design of Nuclear Power Plants PDF Author: IAEA
Publisher: International Atomic Energy Agency
ISBN: 9201305230
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 81

Book Description
The objective of this Safety Guide is to provide recommendations for the design of new nuclear power plants related to defense in depth and the practical elimination of plant event sequences that could lead to an early radioactive release or a large radioactive release. It also provides recommendations in relation to design aspects of defense in depth, in particular on those aspects associated with design extension conditions. Since the introduction of the term "practical elimination" in the early 90's and the recognition that accident conditions could include design extension conditions without significant fuel degradation and design extension conditions with core melting, those topics have been the subject of extensive discussions and several publications. The purpose of this publication is to facilitate international consensus on the understanding of those topics among regulators and designers and to provide recommendations for their consistent implementation in relevant nuclear power plant designs. In particular, this Specific Safety Guide gives recommendations related to the demonstration of the implementation of the practical elimination concept for those plant event sequences that could lead to an early radioactive release or a large radioactive release, which relies on the physical impossibility or on the high-level confidence that they are extremely unlikely to arise.

Radiation Safety in Well Logging

Radiation Safety in Well Logging PDF Author: IAEA
Publisher: International Atomic Energy Agency
ISBN: 9201056222
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 96

Book Description
This Safety Guide provides recommendations on the use of radioactive sources and radiation generators in well logging, including in the manufacture, calibration and maintenance of well logging tools. It provides recommendations on radiation protection and safety for the storage, use and transport of such radiation sources. The guidance in this publication is aimed primarily at operating organizations that are authorized to undertake well logging with radiation sources, as well as their employees and radiation protection officers. The guidance will also be of interest to regulatory bodies, and to designers, manufacturers, suppliers, and maintenance and servicing organizations of well logging equipment that contains radiation sources.

Occupational Radiation Protection During the Decommissioning of Nuclear Installations

Occupational Radiation Protection During the Decommissioning of Nuclear Installations PDF Author: International Atomic Energy Agency
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789201071217
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
This publication presents practical information on occupational radiation protection and examples with good practices from the nuclear industry on how to comply with the requirements established in IAEA Safety Standards Series No. GSR Part 3, Radiation Protection and Safety of Radiation Sources: International Basic Safety Standards, within the context of decommissioning activities. Taking account of the fact that over 70% of the world's nuclear reactors are to be decommissioned by 2040, this publication can be used in the planning of new decommissioning projects and for improvements in the implementation of existing decommissioning projects. Useful input for licensing and supervision of decommissioning projects are also provided.
