Work Song

Work Song PDF Author: Ivan Doig
Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 1594485208
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 306

Book Description
"[A] novel that best expresses the American spirit." –The Chicago Tribune “If America was a melting pot, Butte seemed to be its boiling point,” observes Morrie Morgan, the itinerant teacher and inveterate charmer who stole readers’ hearts in The Whistling Season. A decade later, he steps off the train and into the copper mining capital of the world in its jittery 1919 heyday. While the riches of “the Richest Hill on Earth” may elude him, once again a colorful cast of local characters seek him out. Before long, Morrie is caught up in the clash between the ironfisted Anaconda Mining Company, radical “outside agitators,” and the beleaguered miners. As tensions build aboveground and below, Morrie finds a unique way to give a voice to those who truly need one, and Ivan Doig proves yet again why he’s reigning king of Western fiction.

Book Description
When society tries to put you in a box, knock the walls down. -Tati Green "You have a pretty face" is such a back-handed compliment. It's like telling me that my face is beautiful, but the rest of me is not. Despite what society says, my curves are hot. My love life, on the other hand, is not. My mom says I'll never find love because of my weight. My sister says I'll never find love because of my personality. My almost-fiance says I'll never find love because I'm incapable of loving anyone. My mom and sister are full of it, but my ex kind of has a point. At twenty-seven years old, I've never been in love. I date a lot, yet sparks never fly. But when I experienced the heart-pounding, skin tingling feeling for the first time, I didn't think it would be caused by a guy I've never met. And I damn sure didn't think he would end up holding my future in his hands in more ways than one."

Sukuma Labor Songs from Western Tanzania

Sukuma Labor Songs from Western Tanzania PDF Author: Frank D. Gunderson
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004184686
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 568

Book Description
This volume is an interpretive analysis of a collection of 335 song texts treated as primary historical sources. The collection highlights the cultural practices that link music with labor in Sukuma communities in northwestern Tanzania. These linkages are evident in the music of the elephant, snake, and porcupine hunting associations that flourished in the precolonial epoch, in the nineteenth-century regional and long-distance porter associations, and in the farmer associations that have proliferated since the beginning of the twentieth century. Acting primarily as an interpretive editor, the author collaborated with several Tanzanian scholars and translators towards fine-tuning the translation of these texts into English, and gathered testimonies in order to create succinct interpretive statements about the songs.

Category : Religion
Languages : en

Book Description
The Cornerstone Biblical Commentary series (18 volumes) is the product of nearly 40 scholars, many of whom participated in the creation of the NLT. The contributors to this series, who are well-known and represent a wide spectrum of theological positions within the evangelical community, have built each volume to help pastors, teachers, and students of the Bible understand every thought contained in the Bible. In short, this will be one of the premier resources for those seeking an accessible but fairly high-level discussion of scriptural interpretation. August Konkel, PhD (Westminster Theological Seminary), has been professor of Old Testament at Providence Seminary since 1984 and president of the College and Seminary since 2001. A contributor to the New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology and Exegesis, he has forthcoming commentaries on Chronicles (Herald Press) and on Kings (Zondervan). Tremper Longman III, PhD (Yale University), is the Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies at Westmont College. Tremper has authored or coauthored 17 books, including A Biblical History of Israel (Westminster John Knox, 2003). He was also one of the main translators of the New Living Translation and has served as a consultant for other well-known Bible translations as well.

Life-Study of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs

Life-Study of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs PDF Author: Witness Lee
Publisher: Living Stream Ministry
ISBN: 0736350160
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 376

Book Description
In the Lord’s recovery during the past five hundred years the church’s knowledge of the Lord and His truth has been continually progressing. This monumental and classical work by Brother Witness Lee builds upon and is a further development of all that the Lord has revealed to His church in the past centuries. It is filled with the revelation concerning the processed Triune God, the living Christ, the life-giving Spirit, the experience of life, and the definition and practice of the church. In this set Brother Lee has kept three basic principles that should rule and govern every believer in their interpretation, development, and expounding of the truths contained in the Scriptures. The first principle is that of the Triune God dispensing Himself into His chosen and redeemed people; the second principle is that we should interpret, develop, and expound the truths contained in the Bible with Christ for the church; and the third governing principle is Christ, the Spirit, life, and the church. No other study or exposition of the New Testament conveys the life nourishment or ushers the reader into the divine revelation of God’s holy Word according to His New Testament economy as this one does.
