The Impact Equation

Book Description
“Anyone can write a blog post, but not everyone can get it liked thirty-five thousand times, and not everyone can get seventy-five thousand subscribers. But the reason we’ve done these things isn’t because we’re special. It’s because we tried and failed, the same way you learn to ride a bike. We tried again and again, and now we have an idea how to get from point A to point B faster because of it.” Three short years ago, when Chris Brogan and Julien Smith wrote their bestseller, Trust Agents, being interesting and human on the Web was enough to build a significant audience. But now, everybody has a platform. The problem is that most of them are just making noise. In The Impact Equation, Brogan and Smith show that to make people truly care about what you have to say, you need more than just a good idea, trust among your audience, or a certain number of followers. You need a potent mix of all of the above and more. Use the Impact Equation to figure out what you’re doing right and wrong. Apply it to a blog, a tweet, a video, or a mainstream-media advertising campaign. Use it to explain why a feature in a national newspaper that reaches millions might have less impact than a blog post that reaches a thousand passionate subscribers. Consider the phenomenally successful British singer Adele. For most musicians, onstage banter basically consists of yelling “Hello, Cleveland!” But Adele connects with her audience, pausing between songs to discuss a falling-out with her friends, or the drama of a break up. Each of these moments comes off as if she were talking directly with you, and you can easily relate. Adele has Impact. As the traditional channels for marketing, selling, and influencing disappear and more people interact mainly online, the very nature of attention is changing. The Impact Equation will give you the tools and metrics that guarantee your message will be heard.

A Most Elegant Equation

A Most Elegant Equation PDF Author: David Stipp
Publisher: Basic Books
ISBN: 0465093787
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 240

Book Description
An award-winning science writer introduces us to mathematics using the extraordinary equation that unites five of mathematics' most important numbers Bertrand Russell wrote that mathematics can exalt "as surely as poetry." This is especially true of one equation: ei(pi) + 1 = 0, the brainchild of Leonhard Euler, the Mozart of mathematics. More than two centuries after Euler's death, it is still regarded as a conceptual diamond of unsurpassed beauty. Called Euler's identity or God's equation, it includes just five numbers but represents an astonishing revelation of hidden connections. It ties together everything from basic arithmetic to compound interest, the circumference of a circle, trigonometry, calculus, and even infinity. In David Stipp's hands, Euler's identity formula becomes a contemplative stroll through the glories of mathematics. The result is an ode to this magical field.

The Hugoniot Equation of State of 6061-T6 Aluminum at Low Pressures

The Hugoniot Equation of State of 6061-T6 Aluminum at Low Pressures PDF Author: C. Donald Lundergan
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aluminum
Languages : en
Pages : 20

Book Description
The Hugoniot equation of state of 6061-T6 aluminum was determined in the pressure region from 0 to 31 kilobars. The one-dimensional shock waves, which were used to compress the medium, were produced by impacting an aluminum target with a flat-nosed projectile. The elastic shock wave velocity was measured as 6.23±0.15 mm/[mu]. Above the Hugoniot elastic limit of 6.3±0.1 kilobars both elastic and plastic shocks were observed. The particle velocity behind the shock front, determined at the plane of impact, was compared to the free surface velocity. Above the elastic limit the free surface velocity was less than twice the initial particle velocity and appeared to be a function of the thickness of the target.

The Cahn–Hilliard Equation: Recent Advances and Applications

Initially proposed in view of applications to materials science, the Cahn–Hilliard equation is now applied in many other areas, including image processing, biology, ecology, astronomy, and chemistry. In particular, the author addresses applications to image inpainting and tumor growth. Many chapters include open problems and directions for future research. The Cahn-Hilliard Equation: Recent Advances and Applications is intended for graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics, especially those interested in phase separation models and their generalizations and applications to other fields.
