The Perennial Way PDF Author: Bart Marshall

Pages : 330

Book Description
The first edition of The Perennial Way included Yoga Sutras, Dhammapada, Ashtavakra Gita, Tao Te Ching, Heart Sutra, and Faith Mind Sutra, which and are considered by many to be the essential statements of Yoga, Buddhism, Advaita, Taoism, and Zen. It is to these traditions that serious seekers of enlightenment are generally drawn because they comprise a core methodology for Awakening that, to borrow from Huxley, might be called the Perennial Way. This new expanded edition adds four more spiritual classics: Avadhuta Gita, Atma Shatakam, Three Books of the Absolute, and Book of Yeshua-the inner teachings of Jesus Christ. In these timeless works, Patanjali, Buddha, Jesus, Lao Tsu, and other great masters of the Way speak with resonant authority on man's deepest questions, and offer explicit instructions for how an earnest seeker of Truth should conduct his or her search and life. These insightful new versions by Bart Marshall are presented without commentary. Clear and poetic, yet intensely faithful to the language and nuance of the originals, they invite direct communion with the masters, and vibrate with a revelatory self-evidence that resonates in the mind and heart long after reading. "Bart Marshall is a remarkable confluence of awakened soul and poet. He has an ability to convey the truth of ancient writings with a profound spiritual immediacy. His translations not only interpret ancient mystical writings, but transmit their essential power to utterly alter and redefine our lives." -- Bruce Joel Rubin, spiritual teacher and Oscar-winning screenwriter (Ghost, Jacob's Ladder, My Life)

The Perennial Way (Expanded Edition)

Book Description
Preface to the Expanded Edition In the years since publication of The Perennial Way, I've been humbled and gratified by the reception it has received, and by the wonderful comments from readers about the essential place it has found in their lives and search for Truth. I have also received suggestions about other spiritual works readers would like me to tackle in a similar way, most often the Bhagavad Gita, which I have since published separately, and also two lesser known Advaita classics, Avadhuta Gita and Atma Shatakam, which I've included in this edition. I've also included two other works, Three Books of the Absolute, and Book of Yeshua. Three Books of the Absolute is an epic poem by the modern mystic Richard Rose that dramatically describes his Realization and what was realized. Book of Yeshua contains selected sayings of Jesus of Nazareth, who's name in his native language of Aramaic, is Yeshua. It is excerpted from my book Christ Sutras: The Complete Sayings of Jesus from All Sources Arranged as Sermons, and conveys the inner teachings of Jesus in his own words, teachings that are very similar to those of Advaita, Buddhism, Zen, and the other traditions anthologized here. Readers have also asked why I haven't written about the similarities between all these great teachings and provided more commentary in the introductions. My feeling is that commentary often gets in the way of a reader's direct communion with the masters, and my intention with these translations is that they speak clearly and directly for themselves, with a powerful self-evidence that needs no commentary. Better for you to discover for yourself the similarities between Jesus and Lao Tsu, than for me or anyone else to point them out. Better for you to be caught off-guard and struck speechless by a profound verse in Ashtavakra Gita, than for me or anyone else to tell you what to feel or hear in it-or worse, how to "understand" it. There is nothing in these spiritual masterworks that you don't already know in the deep recesses of your heart and soul. Reading them is a journey into Self. Have at it, and Godspeed.

Daodejing PDF Author: Laozi
Publisher: OUP Oxford
ISBN: 0191607258
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 224

Book Description
'Of ways you may speak, but not the Perennial Way; By names you may name, but not the Perennial Name.' The best-loved of all the classical books of China and the most universally popular, the Daodejing or Classic of the Way and Life-Force is a work that defies definition. It encapsulates the main tenets of Daoism, and upholds a way of being as well as a philosophy and a religion. The dominant image is of the Way, the mysterious path through the whole cosmos modelled on the great Silver River or Milky Way that traverses the heavens. A life-giving stream, the Way gives rise to all things and holds them in her motherly embrace. It enables the individual, and society as a whole, to harmonize the disparate demands of daily life and achieve a more profound level of understanding. This new translation draws on the latest archaeological finds and brings out the word play and poetry of the original. Simple commentary accompanies the text, and the introduction provides further historical and interpretative context. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

Prophesy Deliverance! 40th Anniversary Expanded Edition

Prophesy Deliverance! 40th Anniversary Expanded Edition PDF Author: Cornell West
Publisher: Presbyterian Publishing Corp
ISBN: 1646982886
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 266

Book Description
In this, his premiere work, Cornel West challenges African Americans to consider the incorporation of Marxism into their theological perspectives, thereby adopting the mindset that it is class more so than race that renders one powerless in America. His work reflects political and cultural perspectives borne out of his own formative life experiences. Decades later, his arguments continue to capture the theological imagination of many and influence the critical engagement of generations of scholars. In this fortieth anniversary edition, West invites six prominent scholars—whose respective work are grounded in various aspects of black political, cultural, and theological thought—into dialogue with this work, each writing one chapter plus a foreword by Jonathan Lee Walton. Continuing and expanding on the revolutionary discourses that West introduced in the first published work, each new essay provides nuanced lens for thinking about movements of liberation in today's African American communities

Perennial Seller

Perennial Seller PDF Author: Ryan Holiday
Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 110199214X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 256

Book Description
The book that Inc. says "every entrepreneur should read" and an FT Book of the Month selection... How did the movie The Shawshank Redemption fail at the box office but go on to gross more than $100 million as a cult classic? How did The 48 Laws of Power miss the bestseller lists for more than a decade and still sell more than a million copies? How is Iron Maiden still filling stadiums worldwide without radio or TV exposure forty years after the band was founded? Bestselling author and marketer Ryan Holiday calls such works and artists perennial sellers. How do they endure and thrive while most books, movies, songs, video games, and pieces of art disappear quickly after initial success? How can we create and market creative works that achieve longevity? Holiday explores this mystery by drawing on his extensive experience working with businesses and creators such as Google, American Apparel, and the author John Grisham, as well as his interviews with the minds behind some of the greatest perennial sellers of our time. His fascinating examples include: • Rick Rubin, producer for Adele, Jay-Z, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who teaches his artists to push past short-term thinking and root their work in long-term inspiration. • Tim Ferriss, whose books have sold millions of copies, in part because he rigorously tests every element of his work to see what generates the strongest response. • Seinfeld, which managed to capture both the essence of the nineties and timeless themes to become a modern classic. • Harper Lee, who transformed a muddled manuscript into To Kill a Mockingbird with the help of the right editor and feedback. • Winston Churchill, Stefan Zweig, and Lady Gaga, who each learned the essential tenets of building a platform of loyal, dedicated supporters. Holiday reveals that the key to success for many perennial sellers is that their creators don’t distinguish between the making and the marketing. The product’s purpose and audience are in the creator’s mind from day one. By thinking holistically about the relationship between their audience and their work, creators of all kinds improve the chances that their offerings will stand the test of time.
