By increasing green spaces and other nature-based solutions through methods such as laneway greening including low cost green wall systems, individuals will be provided with valuable opportunities to engage with the positive outcomes Introduction of urban greening and support a sustainable movement. While there is a vast and growing literature on both the benefits of volunteering and value of urban green space, the social impact of community gardening remains largely overlooked. To ensure the longevity of green wall projects, their benefits to society must be investigated, promoted and realised to encourage community involvement. Research in the space suggests that urban, low income individuals can have limited connections between themselves and nature, restricting potential social interactions, health, wellbeing and recreation. The objective of this guide is to establish an enabling environment to facilitate the uptake of vertical greening systems, more commonly known as ‘Green Walls’, within urban environments at a community level. To achieve this, a coherent framework is provided, that will provide guidance on planning, designing and managing a green wall within community space.
