Book Description
"She Lived to Tell" is a poignant journey into the untold history of exiles, migrations, and silent sufferings in the Balkans during the transformative years of World Wars I and II. At the heart of this captivating narrative is the remarkable life of Miriam Saltiel Friedmann, affectionately known as "Mimica". Set amidst the Bulgaria-Greece-Turkey triangle, Mimica's family becomes an integral part of Turkey's recent history, entwined with the echoes of the Ottoman Empire's beating heart. Amid Greece's declaration of independence and the rise of Bulgarian guerrilla organizations, Mimica's family adventure unfolds, echoing the unyielding spirit of the region. The shadows of World War II cast a grim pallor, but Turkey's compassionate "prudent policy" extends hope to Jewish immigrants fleeing Nazi persecution. Through the pages, the captivating city of Salonica comes alive, once a sanctuary for Sephardic Jews escaping Spain's forced immigration. Through candid narrations, Mimica's unwavering spirit and acceptance of life's tragedies shine, inspiring readers with tales of heroism, love, and resilience. "She Lived to Tell" interweaves ordinary emotions with extraordinary events, preserving the indomitable human spirit passed down through generations. With each page, Mimica's extraordinary journey unfolds, a testament to the power of oral history, a gift from the past that imparts meaning and wisdom to our present. I Lived to Tell It All

I Lived to Tell It All PDF Author: George Jones
Publisher: Dell

Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 482

Book Description
Boozing. Womanizing. Brawling. Singing. For the last forty years George Jones has reigned as the country's king--the singer many have called the Frank Sinatra of country. And for most of that time, his career has been marked by hard-living, hard-loving, and hard luck. From his early east Texas recordings through his marriage with Tammy Wynette to his latest acclaim as a solid citizen and "high-tech red-neck," Americans have been fascinated with Jones, never even knowing whether he's going to show up for his next concert. Now, in I Lived To Tell It All, George Jones supplies a no-holds-barred account of his excesses and ecstasies. How alcohol ruled his life and performances. How violence marred many friendships and relationships. How money was something to be made but never held on to. And, finally, how the love of a good woman can ultimately change a man, redeem him, and save his life.

I Lived to Tell the Tale

I Lived to Tell the Tale PDF Author: Elizabeth Ball
Publisher: Spiderwize
ISBN: 9781908026293
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 164

Book Description
This is the remarkable story of Elizabeth Ball, who fell out of an upstairs window onto concrete slabs, on her head, in Wednesbury, in the Black Country, when she was 22-months old. The incident was reported on the front page of The Express and Star of June 27, 1957. Elizabeth was pronounced dead by the doctor who attended her, and she was laid out on the dining room table and covered by a sheet. However, her mother's GP arrived and detected a pulse. Elizabeth spent months in a coma in Hallum Hospital, during which time the Express and Star reporter cycled to the hospital daily to check on her progress. Eventually it was the flash of his camera that woke her out of the coma. She suffered brain damage, but in spite of all odds grew up under the careful care of her mother, who said that her daughter "would live to tell the tale." Eventually she was able to learn to read and write, and this is the book (I Lived to Tell the Tale) in which she tells her story. Elizabeth, who now lives in Prestatyn, in Denbighshire, writes: "Mom said that one day I would tell this tale-in fact, she told me to tell the whole world that I lived to tell the tale, and that's why I have written this book, for I have lived to tell the tale in my own way, for I had to persevere and learn to read and write at a later stage in life. It was my mom, too, who chose the title of this book, years before she died. I might have told my tale in a higgledy-piggledy fashion, for so many moments from the past crowd in and demand expression, but I hope it will be evocative for many readers who might have had similar experiences and who share similar memories."
