Information Processing in Medical Imaging
Author: Attila Kuba
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 354048714X

Pages : 396
Book Description
The 1999 international conference on Information Processing in Medical Imaging (IPMI ’99) was the sixteenth in the series of biennial meetings and followed the successful meeting in Poultney, Vermont, in 1997. This year, for the rst time, the conference was held in central Europe, in the historical Hungarian town of Visegr ad, one of the most beautiful spots not only on the Danube Bend but in all Hungary. The place has many historical connections, both national and international. The castle was once a royal palace of King Matthias. In the middle ages, the Hungarian, Czech, and Polish kings met here. Recently, after the summit meeting of reestablished democracies in the area, it became a symbol for the cooperation between central European countries as they approached the European Union. It was thus also symbolic to bring IPMI, in the year of the 30th anniversary of its foundation, to this place, and organize the meeting with the close cooperation of local and traditional western organizers. It also provided a good opportunity to summarize brie?y a history of IPMI for those who were new to the IPMI conference. This year we received 82 full paper submissions from all over the world. Of these, 24 were accepted as oral presentations. These were divided into 6 sessions. In spite of our e orts, it was found to be impossible to make these sessions fully balanced and homogeneous.

Strategic Value Chain Management
Author: Qeis Kamran
Publisher: Kogan Page Publishers
ISBN: 0749484438
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 441
Book Description
A supply chain is the process of all parties involved in fulfilling a customer request, while a value chain is a set of interrelated activities a company uses to create value and a competitive advantage. In Strategic Value Chain Management the authors bring together a variety of disciplines, showing how to move from traditional supply chain management to value chain management. Research from the (ISM) International School of Management, Germany, originating from a network of companies in a range of sectors, is integrated with case studies to demonstrate particular concepts. Strategic Value Chain Management brings together theory and practice and presents tangible ways of creating competitiveness in a changing world through the use of effective models and frameworks. Challenging the traditional Porters Five Forces Model, the authors introduce the important academic disciplines of cybernetics and systems sciences as essential drivers of strategy within the supply chain, supported by case studies illustrating their implementation.

Terrestrial Radiative Transfer
Author: Harriet H. Natsuyama
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 4431685278
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 294
Book Description
A modern treatment of both direct and inverse problems applicable to the remote sensing of earth from space or from the air. Starting from a physical description of the process, the authors develop innovative mathematical models, fundamental mathematics for the analysis of these models, and methods for obtaining computational solutions. They also include the results of recent research using this approach, such as invariant imbedding techniques, associative memory artificial neural networks, and the automatic evaluation of derivatives. With its coverage of uniform parallel illumination, internal sources, and incident spotlight beams, this book is indispensable for researchers working to reduce the atmospheric distortion of remotely sensed terrestrial images.

Environmental Impact Assessment
Author: PADC Environmental Impact Assessment and Planning Unit
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400967950
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 433
Book Description
Brian D. Clark PADC Environmental Impact Assessment and Planning Unit Project Director Events throughout the world substantiate the view that planning and decision-making systems need a better integration of environ mental, economic and social considerations. Many organizations are showing considerable interest in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and its role in project planning and policy evaluation and as an aid to decision-making. Consequently, it was decided to hold a NATO Advanced Study Institute on EIA for the following reasons. First there is evidence of uncertainty, particularly amongst many scientists and decision-makers, as to the nature, scope and object ives of EIA. Secondly, there is much confusion over the objectives and utility of certain EIA methods. Third, there appears to be a gulf developing between decision-makers and what they require from EIA, and the ability of the scientist to provide information which is scientifically rigorous. Finally, there appears to be little concern as to the relationship between "impact prediction" and the actual consequences ofa development activity, suggesting that if EIA is not to become both politically and scientifically disreput able greater emphasis should be placed on prediction, monitoring and post-audit studies. As will be seen from the contents of this volume the ASI attempted to address all of the above topics and indeed many more. It was perhaps inevitable that the ASI raised more questions than were answered but this is indicative of the vigorous debate that is now taking place about the role and utility of EIA.
