Digital Breast Tomosynthesis

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis PDF Author: Alberto Tagliafico
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319286315
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 148

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive description of the screening and clinical applications of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and offers straightforward, clear guidance on use of the technique. Informative clinical cases are presented to illustrate how to take advantage of DBT in clinical practice. The importance of DBT as a diagnostic tool for both screening and diagnosis is increasing rapidly. DBT improves upon mammography by depicting breast tissue on a video clip made of cross‐sectional images reconstructed in correspondence with their mammographic planes of acquisition. DBT results in markedly reduced summation of overlapping breast tissue and offers the potential to improve mammographic breast cancer surveillance and diagnosis. This book will be an excellent practical teaching guide for beginners and a useful reference for more experienced radiologists.

Biomedical Computing for Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis

Biomedical Computing for Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis PDF Author: Pinheiro dos Santos, Wellington
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 1799834573
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 357

Book Description
Despite success with treatment when diagnosed early, breast cancer is still one of the most fatal forms of cancer for women. Imaging diagnosis is still one of the most efficient ways to detect early breast changes with mammography among the most used techniques. However, there are other techniques that have emerged as alternatives or even complementary tests in the early detection of breast lesions (e.g., breast thermography and electrical impedance tomography). Artificial intelligence can be used to optimize image diagnosis, increasing the reliability of the reports and supporting professionals who do not have enough knowledge or experience to make good diagnoses. Biomedical Computing for Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis is a collection of research that presents a review of the physiology and anatomy of the breast; the dynamics of breast cancer; principles of pattern recognition, artificial neural networks, and computer graphics; and the breast imaging techniques and computational methods to support and optimize the diagnosis. While highlighting topics including mammograms, thermographic imaging, and intelligent systems, this book is ideally designed for medical oncologists, surgeons, biomedical engineers, medical imaging professionals, cancer researchers, academicians, and students in medicine, biomedicine, biomedical engineering, and computer science.

Saving Women's Lives

Pages : 144

Book Description
In this report The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) present a one-day symposium that was held at the IOM to further disseminate the conclusions and recommendations of the joint IOM and National Research Council report, Saving Women's Lives: Strategies for Improving Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis. The committee assembled for this event was asked to share insights and consider ways in which the objectives of the report could be achieved from the standpoint of what women need to know, the best models of screening programs, manpower, risk stratification, basic research, and payment. This symposium seeks to provide continuing food for thought and ideas for actions in support of breast cancer detection and diagnosis and saving women's lives.

Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Prognosis

Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Prognosis PDF Author: Ashlesha Jain
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814492671
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 348

Book Description
The main aim of this book is to present a sample of recent research on the application of novel artificial intelligence paradigms to the diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer. These paradigms include neural networks, fuzzy logic and evolutionary computing. Artificial intelligence techniques offer advantages — such as adaptation, fault tolerance, learning and human-like behavior — over conventional computing techniques. The idea is to combine the pathological, intelligent and statistical approaches to enable simple and accurate diagnosis and prognosis. This book is the first of its kind on the topic of artificial intelligence in breast cancer. It presents the applications of artificial intelligence in breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis, and includes state-of-the-art concepts in the field. It contains contributions from Australia, Germany, Italy, UK and the USA. Saving Women's Lives

Saving Women's Lives PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309092132
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 385

Book Description
The outlook for women with breast cancer has improved in recent years. Due to the combination of improved treatments and the benefits of mammography screening, breast cancer mortality has decreased steadily since 1989. Yet breast cancer remains a major problem, second only to lung cancer as a leading cause of death from cancer for women. To date, no means to prevent breast cancer has been discovered and experience has shown that treatments are most effective when a cancer is detected early, before it has spread to other tissues. These two facts suggest that the most effective way to continue reducing the death toll from breast cancer is improved early detection and diagnosis. Building on the 2001 report Mammography and Beyond, this new book not only examines ways to improve implementation and use of new and current breast cancer detection technologies but also evaluates the need to develop tools that identify women who would benefit most from early detection screening. Saving Women's Lives: Strategies for Improving Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis encourages more research that integrates the development, validation, and analysis of the types of technologies in clinical practice that promote improved risk identification techniques. In this way, methods and technologies that improve detection and diagnosis can be more effectively developed and implemented.

Computer-Aided Detection and Diagnosis in Medical Imaging

Computer-Aided Detection and Diagnosis in Medical Imaging PDF Author: Qiang Li
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1439871779
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 454

Book Description
Improve the Accurate Detection and Diagnosis of Cancer and Other Diseases Despite the expansion of the CAD field in recent decades, there is currently no single book dedicated to the development and use of CAD systems. Filling this need, Computer-Aided Detection and Diagnosis in Medical Imaging covers the major technical advances and methodologies shaping the development and clinical utility of CAD systems in breast imaging, chest imaging, abdominal imaging, and other emerging applications. After a historical overview of CAD, the book is divided into four sections. The first section presents CAD technologies in breast imaging, which is the most advanced area of CAD application. The second section discusses CAD technologies in chest and abdominal imaging. The third section explores emerging CAD technologies in a wide range of imaging modalities designed to address a variety of diseases. The final section describes the current use of CAD systems in clinical practice as well as how CAD will play an important role in quantitative image biomarkers and imaging genomics research. This book brings together existing and emerging CAD approaches at a level understandable to students, CAD system developers, basic scientists, and physician scientists. Newcomers to CAD research will learn about fundamental aspects in the process of CAD system development. Developers of CAD systems will gain insight on designing new or improved CAD systems. Experienced researchers will get up-to-date information on the latest CAD technologies.
