Landmarks in Earth Reinforcement

Landmarks in Earth Reinforcement PDF Author: Hidetoshi Ochiai
Publisher: Taylor & Francis US
ISBN: 9789026518645
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 796

Book Description
Earth reinforcing techniques are increasingly becoming a useful, powerful and economical solution to various problems encountered in geotechnical engineering practice. Expansion of the experiences and knowledge in this area has succeeded in developing new techniques and their applications to geotechnical engineering problems. In order to discuss the latest experiences and knowledge, and with the purpose of spreading them all over the world for further development, the IS Kyushi conference series on the subject of earth reinforcement have been held in Fukuoka, Japan, every four years since 1988. This fourth symposium, entitled Landmarks in Earth Reinforcement, is a continuation of the series IS Kyushu conferences, and also aims at being one of the landmarks in the progress of modern earth reinforcement practice. The first volume contains 137 papers selected for the symposium covering almost every aspect of earth reinforcement. The second volume contains texts of the special and keynote lectures.

Decomposed Granite as an Embankment Fill Material

Decomposed Granite as an Embankment Fill Material PDF Author: Kashayapa A. S. Yapa
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Embankments
Languages : en
Pages : 240

Book Description
The suitability of decomposed granite as an embankment fill material has been investigated. Using a sample from the Shasta Bally batholith in Northern California, important mechanical properties were studied in oedometer and triaxial tests. In addition, the feasibility of using geogrid reinforcements in decomposed granite embankments to enable steepening of side slopes was investigated through direct shear and pullout tests. Experimental results show that breakage is primarily controlled by the applied strain level rather than the stress level.

Soil Reinforcement with Geotextiles

Handbook of Geotechnical Investigation and Design Tables

Handbook of Geotechnical Investigation and Design Tables PDF Author: Burt G. Look
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 020394660X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 356

Book Description
This practical handbook of properties for soils and rock contains, in a concise tabular format, the key issues relevant to geotechnical investigations, assessments and designs in common practice. In addition, there are brief notes on the application of the tables. These data tables are compiled for experienced geotechnical professionals who require a reference document to access key information. There is an extensive database of correlations for different applications. The book should provide a useful bridge between soil and rock mechanics theory and its application to practical engineering solutions. The initial chapters deal with the planning of the geotechnical investigation, the classification of the soil and rock properties and some of the more used testing is then covered. Later chapters show the reliability and correlations that are used to convert that data in the interpretative and assessment phase of the project. The final chapters apply some of these concepts to geotechnical design. This book is intended primarily for practicing geotechnical engineers working in investigation, assessment and design, but should provide a useful supplement for postgraduate courses.

Geotechnical Modelling

Geotechnical Modelling PDF Author: David Muir Wood
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351990047
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 504

Book Description
Modelling forms an implicit part of all engineering design but many engineers engage in modelling without consciously considering the nature, validity and consequences of the supporting assumptions. Derived from courses given to postgraduate and final year undergraduate MEng students, this book presents some of the models that form a part of the typical undergraduate geotechnical curriculum and describes some of the aspects of soil behaviour which contribute to the challenge of geotechnical modelling. Assuming a familiarity with basic soil mechanics and traditional methods of geotechnical design, this book is a valuable tool for students of geotechnical and structural and civil engineering as well as also being useful to practising engineers involved in the specification of numerical or physical geotechnical modelling.
