Book Description
In the United States there are 19 million entrepreneurs, many of whom repeatedly launch business after business in an attempt to succeed. Intense competition and limited availability of venture capital makes the monumental task of starting a high tech business even more challenging today. Leveraging the Horizon provides a solution. Serial entrepreneur and active angel investor Ed Addison shows readers how to envision and execute revolutionary new ideas to get the best talent, form breakthrough products and businesses, attract capital, and ultimately displace incumbents. The book explains a philosophy-leveraging the horizon-and demonstrates why this philosophy is essential to the success of any venture. The engineer-turned-entrepreneur shows by example that success can be achieved through desire, planning and execution-not luck. He is the founder of ConQuest Software, which he sold to Excalibur Technologies in 1995 for $33 million, and Powerize.com, which merged with Hoover's Inc. in 2000 for $22 million. He has valuable insight to share and presents it in an informative, inspiring and captivating manner.

Loose Financial Conditions, Rising Leverage, and Risks to Macro-Financial Stability

Loose Financial Conditions, Rising Leverage, and Risks to Macro-Financial Stability PDF Author: Mr. Adolfo Barajas
Publisher: International Monetary Fund
ISBN: 1513591487
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 43

Book Description
After a steady increase following the global financial crisis, private nonfinancial sector leverage rose further during the COVID-19 on the back of easy financial conditions induced by unprecedented policy support. We investigate the empirical relationships between increased leverage, financial conditions, and macro-financial stability in a sample of major advanced and emerging market economies. We find that loose financial conditions contribute to leverage buildups and generate an intertemporal tradeoff: financial stability risk is lessened in the near term but exacerbated in the medium term. The tradeoff is amplified during credit booms, when debt service burdens are particularly high, or when the share of foreign currency debt is high in emerging markets. Selected macroprudential tools can arrest leverage buildups and mitigate the tradeoff.

Book Description
Globalisation of world trade, international media, technological innovation and social change are creating opportunities and challenges that today’s pupils will inherit and build on. A pupil’s academic, technical and social capacity will define their success or failure. Therefore, educational outcomes and well-being for young people across emerging and developed economies and the crucial role of education and leaders of education has never been more important. Schools are under pressure to think more clearly about their place in children’s lives beyond the passage of learning in classrooms. The processes inside schools, the organisation of school systems and the relationship between communities’ educators are critical elements in a complex mix that must balance correctly if it is to benefit school children properly. Using the term ’high leverage leadership‘ to describe leadership that is associated with higher outcomes than would normally be found in similar contexts, this timely book: Provides an overview of the development of educational leadership research Demonstrates how successful educational leaders apply contextual, social and professional expertise to the three distinctive leadership tasks of navigation, management and partnership Offers an insight into the complexity of the educational leadership and practices of school leaders who, against the odds, produce high outcomes for young people Validates the idea that a renovation of educational leadership is necessary to maximise educational outcomes. High Leverage Leadership will be an indispensible text for school leaders, public sector officers, post-graduate students and researchers in leadership, policy, school improvement and educational change.

Indices, Index Funds And ETFs

Indices, Index Funds And ETFs PDF Author: Michael I. C. Nwogugu
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 113744701X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 696

Book Description
Indices, index funds and ETFs are grossly inaccurate and inefficient and affect more than €120 trillion worth of securities, debts and commodities worldwide. This book analyzes the mathematical/statistical biases, misrepresentations, recursiveness, nonlinear risk and homomorphisms inherent in equity, debt, risk-adjusted, options-based, CDS and commodity indices – and by extension, associated index funds and ETFs. The book characterizes the “Popular-Index Ecosystems,” a phenomenon that provides artificial price-support for financial instruments, and can cause systemic risk, financial instability, earnings management and inflation. The book explains why indices and strategic alliances invalidate Third-Generation Prospect Theory (PT3), related approaches and most theories of Intertemporal Asset Pricing. This book introduces three new decision models, and some new types of indices that are more efficient than existing stock/bond indices. The book explains why the Mean-Variance framework, the Put-Call Parity theorem, ICAPM/CAPM, the Sharpe Ratio, Treynor Ratio, Jensen’s Alpha, the Information Ratio, and DEA-Based Performance Measures are wrong. Leveraged/inverse ETFs and synthetic ETFs are misleading and inaccurate and non-legislative methods that reduce index arbitrage and ETF arbitrage are introduced.

The Effective Investor

The Effective Investor PDF Author: Franco Busetti
Publisher: Franco Busetti
ISBN: 1920075801
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 436

Book Description
Stock markets are not efficient, returns are incommensurate with risk, investors are irrational, bubbles and crashes recur regularly, analysts are usually wrong, economists even more so, luck is mostly mistaken for skill, myths and misconceptions abound and most of the industry participants are simply noise generators. This is even more true for emerging markets. South Africa can be termed a developed emerging market and is the newest member of the BRICS group. The Effective Investor is the first book to deal specifically with investing in the South African stock market, filling a surprising gap given the widespread interest that has been shown in South Africa as an emerging market and the gateway to the resource-rich African continent. Understanding the South African market provides insight into the paths that emerging and frontier markets will follow in future. While the investment lessons from the South African market outlined in this book are universal, understanding some of its peculiarities is also important. For example, some insight into the behaviour of the currency, the rand, is clearly critical in terms of any investment in this market, as well as in providing some understanding of other volatile emerging market currencies, as well as because it is often treated as the most liquid proxy for these currencies, particularly during upheavals. Similarly, the techniques highlighted in the book for dealing with volatility are applicable to similar markets elsewhere. South Africa is also an attractive market in its own right. It has been the third-best performing stock market in the world since 1900, and has weathered the great financial crisis with flying colors. The book provides readers with the findings of leading-edge research conducted into the South African stock market, the results of which are normally reserved for professional institutions and is written by a practicing, top-rated investment professional. The book also has guest contributions from some of South Africa's most astute professional analysts and fund managers on their specific areas of expertise, providing exceptional insight into current investment thinking. The Effective Investor is essential reading for every potential, novice or professional investor and investment adviser in emerging markets who wants to understand the most important principles of the South African stock market to ensure successful investing.
