Note-Taking (Classic Reprint)

Note-Taking (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Samuel Swayze Seward
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781332224333
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 100

Book Description
Excerpt from Note-Taking This book is written from personal knowledge of the insufficient, jumbled, and often misleading material with which the average students note-books are filled; from conviction that improved standards in note-taking will increase measurably the effectiveness of a student's work; and from some experience in training students to better habits in the actual process of taking notes. For several years the writer has conducted classes that met once a week through a semester, devoting their time to various aspects of the note-taker's problem; and into this book have gone the results of that experience. Those who attempt to train students in note-taking must make the opportunity to do so, either taking up the subject by itself or treating it in connection with some regular lecture course. In the former case the subject is appropriately taught by the English department, as a branch of expository composition; but in the latter case the task may be undertaken by any instructor who finds that good notes are necessary for successful work in his course. The purpose of this book, therefore, is twofold: to make suggestions, especially in the exercises, for a practical course in the subject; and to provide, both in the text and in the illustrations, sufficient material for instruction in note-taking under the direction of some interested teacher. The plan of the book explains itself, and so needs no comment here; but some hints as to methods of class conduct may be useful. Publisher: Sönke Ahrens
ISBN: 3982438810
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 212

Book Description
This is the second, revised and expanded edition. The first edition was published under the slightly longer title "How to Take Smart Notes. One Simple Technique to Boost Writing, Learning and Thinking - for Students, Academics and Nonfiction Book Writers". The key to good and efficient writing lies in the intelligent organisation of ideas and notes. This book helps students, academics and other knowledge workers to get more done, write intelligent texts and learn for the long run. It teaches you how to take smart notes and ensure they bring you and your projects forward. The Take Smart Notes principle is based on established psychological insight and draws from a tried and tested note-taking technique: the Zettelkasten. This is the first comprehensive guide and description of this system in English, and not only does it explain how it works, but also why. It suits students and academics in the social sciences and humanities, nonfiction writers and others who are in the business of reading, thinking and writing. Instead of wasting your time searching for your notes, quotes or references, you can focus on what really counts: thinking, understanding and developing new ideas in writing. Dr. Sönke Ahrens is a writer and researcher in the field of education and social science. He is the author of the award-winning book “Experiment and Exploration: Forms of World Disclosure” (Springer). The Note-Taker PDF Author: David Philip Lindsley

ISBN: 9781332170326

Languages : en
Pages : 254

Book Description
Excerpt from The Note-Taker: Or Elements of Tachygraphy Rev. And Dear Sir, Permit me in dedicating this work to one whose abundant labors for the little ones of Christs flock deserve a better tribute to recall an incident in the 22 introduction of the art in Boston. Discouraged by the indifference of many whose aid and sympathy I had reason to expect, I appealed, as a last resort, to the entire clergy of the city. All who responded to the call deserve recognition here, and they represented the principal denominations of Christian people among us. Some of them have continued friends to the present time, and some have fallen asleep. I desire to include in this memorial all who kindly appreciated arid aided the art in that time of weakness. Your Christian charity, through which I have learned much of the love of God, has been of inestimable service to me in keeping alive those sentiments of fraternal regard which unite men in sympathy, and perpetuate the arts of peace.
