Cohomology in Banach Algebras

Cohomology in Banach Algebras PDF Author: Barry Edward Johnson
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 0821818279
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 96

Book Description
Let [Fraktur capital]A be a Banach algebra, [Fraktur capital]X a two-sided Banach [Fraktur capital] A-module, and define the cohomology groups [italic]H[italic superscript]n([Fraktur capital]A, [Fraktur capital]X) from the complex of bounded cochains in exact analogy to the classical (algebraic) case. This article gives an introduction to several aspects of the resulting theory.

Topological Homology

Book Description
Contains some results obtained during seminars over the last few years. The seven papers discuss stereotype spaces, algebras and homologies; flat operator modules and their dual modules; homological dimensions of C*- algebras; Wedderburn-type theorems for operator algebras and modules; injective topological modules and additivity formulas for homological dimensions; coretraction problems and homological properties of Banach algebras; and the Sobolev algebra and indecomposable spatially projective operator algebras.

Representations of *-Algebras, Locally Compact Groups, and Banach *-Algebraic Bundles

Representations of *-Algebras, Locally Compact Groups, and Banach *-Algebraic Bundles PDF Author: J. M.G. Fell
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 9780080874456
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 752

Book Description
This is an all-encompassing and exhaustive exposition of the theory of infinite-dimensional Unitary Representations of Locally Compact Groups and its generalization to representations of Banach algebras. The presentation is detailed, accessible, and self-contained (except for some elementary knowledge in algebra, topology, and abstract measure theory). In the later chapters the reader is brought to the frontiers of present-day knowledge in the area of Mackey normal subgroup analysisand its generalization to the context of Banach *-Algebraic Bundles.

Local and Analytic Cyclic Homology

Local and Analytic Cyclic Homology PDF Author: Ralf Meyer
Publisher: European Mathematical Society
ISBN: 9783037190395
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 376

Book Description
Periodic cyclic homology is a homology theory for non-commutative algebras that plays a similar role in non-commutative geometry as de Rham cohomology for smooth manifolds. While it produces good results for algebras of smooth or polynomial functions, it fails for bigger algebras such as most Banach algebras or C*-algebras. Analytic and local cyclic homology are variants of periodic cyclic homology that work better for such algebras. In this book, the author develops and compares these theories, emphasizing their homological properties. This includes the excision theorem, invariance under passage to certain dense subalgebras, a Universal Coefficient Theorem that relates them to $K$-theory, and the Chern-Connes character for $K$-theory and $K$-homology. The cyclic homology theories studied in this text require a good deal of functional analysis in bornological vector spaces, which is supplied in the first chapters. The focal points here are the relationship with inductive systems and the functional calculus in non-commutative bornological algebras. Some chapters are more elementary and independent of the rest of the book and will be of interest to researchers and students working on functional analysis and its applications.

Banach Algebras and the General Theory of *-Algebras: Volume 1, Algebras and Banach Algebras

Banach Algebras and the General Theory of *-Algebras: Volume 1, Algebras and Banach Algebras PDF Author: Theodore W. Palmer
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521366373
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 820

Book Description
This is the first volume of a two volume set that provides a modern account of basic Banach algebra theory including all known results on general Banach *-algebras. This account emphasizes the role of *-algebraic structure and explores the algebraic results that underlie the theory of Banach algebras and *-algebras. The first volume, which contains previously unpublished results, is an independent, self-contained reference on Banach algebra theory. Each topic is treated in the maximum interesting generality within the framework of some class of complex algebras rather than topological algebras. Proofs are presented in complete detail at a level accessible to graduate students. The book contains a wealth of historical comments, background material, examples, particularly in noncommutative harmonic analysis, and an extensive bibliography. Volume II is forthcoming.
