Vulnerability of Watersheds to Climate Change Assessed by Neural Network and Analytical Hierarchy Process

Vulnerability of Watersheds to Climate Change Assessed by Neural Network and Analytical Hierarchy Process PDF Author: Uttam Roy
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9812873449
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 89

Book Description
The increase in GHG gases in the atmosphere due to expansions in industrial and vehicular concentration is attributed to warming of the climate world wide. The resultant change in climatic pattern can induce abnormalities in the hydrological cycle. As a result, the regular functionality of river watersheds will also be affected. This Brief highlights a new methodology to rank the watersheds in terms of its vulnerability to change in climate. This Brief introduces a Vulnerability Index which will be directly proportional to the climatic impacts of the watersheds. Analytical Hierarchy Process and Artificial Neural Networks are used in a cascading manner to develop the model for prediction of the vulnerability index.

Advanced Analytic and Control Techniques for Thermal Systems with Heat Exchangers

Advanced Analytic and Control Techniques for Thermal Systems with Heat Exchangers PDF Author: Libor Pekar
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128194235
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 522

Book Description
Advanced Analytic Control Techniques for Thermal Systems with Heat Exchangers presents the latest research on sophisticated analytic and control techniques specific for Heat Exchangers (HXs) and heat Exchanger Networks (HXNs), such as Stability Analysis, Efficiency of HXs, Fouling Effect, Delay Phenomenon, Robust Control, Algebraic Control, Geometric Control, Optimal Control, Fuzzy Control and Artificial Intelligence techniques. Editor Libor Pekar and his team of global expert contributors combine their knowledge and experience of investigated and applied systems and processes in this thorough review of the most advanced networks, analyzing their dynamics, efficiency, transient features, physical properties, performance, feasibility, flexibility and controllability. The structural and dynamic analyses and control approaches of HXNs, as well as energy efficient manipulation techniques are discussed, in addition to the design of the control systems through the full life cycle. This equips the reader with an understanding of the relevant theory in a variety of settings and scenarios and the confidence to apply that knowledge to solve problems in an academic or professional setting.Graduate students and early-mid career professionals require a robust understanding of how to suitably design thermal systems with HXs and HXNs to achieve required performance levels, which this book offers in one consolidated reference. All examples and solved problems included have been tried and tested, and these combined with the research driven theory provides professionals, researchers and students with the most recent techniques to maximize the energy efficiency and sustainability of existing and new thermal power systems. Analyses several advanced techniques, the theoretical background of these techniques and includes models, examples and results throughout Focusses on advanced analytic and control techniques which have been investigated or applied to thermal systems with HXs and HXNs Includes practical applications and advanced ideas from leading experts in the field, as well as case studies and tested problems and solutions

Emerging Technologies for Water Supply, Conservation and Management

Emerging Technologies for Water Supply, Conservation and Management PDF Author: Etikala Balaji
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031352793
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 385

Book Description
This book deals with the role of emerging technologies such as remote sensing and GIS and artificial intelligence/machine learning in water supply, conservation and management for sustainable development. These are low-cost new technologies that address current challenges dealing with large data sets, such as identifying spatial and temporal variations in water quality parameters and contaminants, groundwater potential zones and water supply and management issues. This book is helpful to show the paths of reducing the burden of time and cost and is the alternative options for the conventional practices in water supply, conservation and management. Further, the outcomings of this book are helpful for policy makers, researchers and readers.

Assessing the Vulnerability of Watersheds to Climate Change

Assessing the Vulnerability of Watersheds to Climate Change PDF Author: United States Department of Agriculture
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 9781508690832
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 38

Book Description
Existing models and predictions project serious changes to worldwide hydrologic processes as a result of global climate change. Projections indicate that significant change may threaten National Forest System watersheds that are an important source of water used to support people, economies, and ecosystems.

Assessing Vulnerability to Global Environmental Change

Assessing Vulnerability to Global Environmental Change PDF Author: Richard J. T. Klein
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136571485
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 277

Book Description
Assessing the vulnerability of human populations to global environmental change, particularly climate change, is now the main imperative of research and international action. However, much of the research into vulnerability is not designed to feed directly into decision making and policy, creating a gap between the knowledge created by researchers and what is required by decision makers. This book seeks to rectify this problem and bridge the gap. It discusses vulnerability as the central theme and brings together many different applications from disaster studies, climate change impact studies and several other fields and provides the most comprehensive synthesis of definitions, theories, formalization and applications to date, illustrated with examples from different disciplines, regions and periods, and from local through to regional, national and international levels. Case study topics cover sea level rise, vulnerability to changes in ecosystem services, assessing the vulnerability of human health and 'double exposure' to climate change and trade liberalization amongst other issues. Research outcomes stress that science-policy dialogues must be transparent to be effective and concentrate on a mutual understanding of the concepts used. A key research finding is that the most useful information for decision makers is that which shows the separate causes and drivers of vulnerability, rather than presenting vulnerability in an aggregated form. The book concludes with a unifying framework for analysing integrated methodologies of vulnerability assessment and guiding how research and policy can be linked to reduce vulnerability.

Vulnerability, Uncertainty, and Risk: Quantification, Mitigation, and Management, CDRM 9, contains 290 peer-reviewed papers that build upon recent significant advances in the quantification, mitigation, and management of risk and uncertainty. These papers focus on decision making and multi-disciplinary developments to address the demands and challenges evolving from the rapidly growing complexity of real-world problems. Topics include: risk assessment and management of critical infrastructure projects; performance-based and reliability-based structural optimization under uncertainty; verified and stochastic approaches to modeling and simulation under uncertainty; risk management for floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, and other natural hazards; risk and uncertainty modeling in transportation and logistics; and geotechnical risk, uncertainty, and decision making. These papers will be valuable to experts, decision-makers, and others involved in assessing, planning responses to, and managing vulnerability and risk.
