Excerpt from Water Resources of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan Almost all kinds of wells are likely to fail to satisfy the demands of the large towns, and one hears continually, in towns that are sup plied from wells, of steps taken to procure more water. Often where the water supply is from wells, as at Mount Pleasant, the plant is so arranged that in fire emergency use may be made of some additional body of water for supplementary supply. But in such a case the water should be taken through a filter gallery, as otherwise there will be constant suspicion and complaint that the engineer is substituting the inferior supply, which of course he should not do without warning.
