Book Description
Wiggles is an adventurous little worm who has a sense that there is more to life beyond the dark tunnels that he calls home. Despite the caution that he receives from the old "wise" worms that play it safe in the shadows on sunny days, he is determined to leave his comfort zone and take a leap of faith into the broad daylight. Factually speaking this is a dangerous endeavor for a real worm as darkness lets them avoid being dried out by the sun. If their skin dries out, they can no longer breathe. Light paralyzes them if they're in it more than an hour. Then they can't move back to the safety of the soil. The symbolism in this story adds an interesting connection between worms and our sinful nature. Here's the key to symbolism: light=truth, rain=blessings, dirt=sin, shadows=place of fear, dark tunnels=world. This story provides a fun way for parents to introduce their children to a crucial truth that reveals the deep human need for a Savior(scripture references: Isaiah 41:14, Psalm 22:6, John 3:16-19). Secondly, it can help kids understand why the truth can be uncomfortable, but that through faith the truth can set them free and give them a love for the light. Lastly, it teaches that faith is an adventure, and that we can expect great things as we step out of our comfort zone. Along with presenting a vital truth this story also invites children to join in with Wiggles on an adventure where they can act out parts like, "Are you ready? Let's go! Wiggle up, wiggle down, and wiggle all around." On a personal note, my 3 boys ages 4, 6, and 7 love to interact with Wiggles in this way!

Down in Louisiana

Down in Louisiana PDF Author: Johnette Downing
Publisher: Independently Published
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Johnette Downing's picture book and song Down in Louisiana showcases the natural environment of the bayous, basins, wetlands, live oaks, marshes, and swamps and the creatures that inhabit them. Readers are encouraged to participate as active observers as they tour the landscape, counting the number of animals on each page. A mother and her pelican one begin the story, and a mosquito and her little skeeters ten conclude it. In between readers encounter alligators, Catahoula, nutria, possum, crawfish, and more as they swim, bark, eat, sleep, buzz, and snap. Deborah Ousley Kadair's mixed media collage illustrations add texture, warmth, and a hidden letter on each page for children to find. The sheet music for this "singable" story is included in the back of the book. "Attractively portrays wildlife in Louisiana's bayous and swamps . . . Offers good storytime possibilities." -School Library Journal "Louisiana wetland critters-including pelicans, of course-are shown in their habitat, with alligators, bears, armadillos, possums and mosquitoes among those getting their verse and their due." -Publishers Weekly "The rhythm is almost irresistible." -New Orleans Times-Picayune "A delightful gift that entertains and educates." -Acadiana LifeStyle
