Book Description
"I believe He Calls Me Friend is one of the most important books of our day, from one of the last living prophets of the Civil Rights Era." –Nick Hall, Founder of Pulse movement, author of Reset: Jesus Changes Everything What if friendship is the key to changing the world? As a follow-up to his landmark work One Blood, Dr. John Perkins helps readers take the next step to make justice and love a reality. Sometimes people ask Dr. Perkins how to make a difference in the world, his simple answer is this, "Be friends. First with God. Then with others—every kind of other you can think of. Because the simple, powerful, messy, explosive truth is: the world is changed one friendship at a time." In He Calls Me Friend, Dr. Perkins argues that God is not distant and disconnected. He is the Friend who woos us, died for us, and lives within us. This Friend fills our empty places and shows us how to be friends with others. Along the way, Dr. Perkins shares his life experiences, explores biblical stories, and features profiles from several of his own personal friendships. In a world that’s growing increasingly fragmented, isolated, and lonely, discover the power of friendship from a true expert in the art.

He Calls Me Friend

Book Description
He calls me friends is titled and means just what it says; a book about friends and friendships. Each and every friend and friendship encounter we have and will have is special with each and every person in its own special and unique way. We will have different interests and things in common with each and every one also. Just because we bond with one a certain way does not mean we will have that same bond and interest with another, although you could. I believe there are qualities that are specific in each and every friendship and relationship though. The literal translation and definition through various dictionaries describe friend and friendship as companions, partners, supporter, one attached to, those kind to, and one to have true affection for. These are literal definitions but have real personal characteristics. The definition of your friend or friends could include any one of the descriptions above or all of them. I started writing this book after encouraging another on how he was an exceptional friend. I told him that he was a true friend that distance could not separate. Whether this person was close or far, he remained a close friend to many. I told him that I believed that if ever one of his friends had a need, he would be there for them no matter what. He had kept contact with them frequently, showing them they were special and thought of. In our society of social media, it is easier to do that and we should take full advantage of it when it comes to friends. You can really compile a number of friends on social media, in fact be a friend of a friend. Social media can be used to accumulate friends, but also have to admit that I really am not close to all in that circle. This person above also would give up what he had if that friend had a need; “Sacrifice”. He considered everyone he had contact and experiences with to be a friend. He even considered family members friends. That should always be true, but sometimes it isn't. He also kept up these friendships over long periods of time; “Faithfulness”. I believe there are many out there and many who are reading this who have done the same, but I am afraid that I have not been one of them and maybe that describes you also. There are probably also just as many or more who haven't. I sit curious about certain friends I had in High School. I reflect on those whom I knew while in the Air Force in California but do not know what has become of them. Distance separated me from those whom I felt close. One of the main aspects of friendships and having friends is being a friend. That seems easy, but there are many who may have failed at this. I am interested in learning and moving forward in that destination and conquest. It is never to late to have more friends and to be a friend. I will have to admit at the start that while in a relationship and friendship I was hard to get know initially, but when opened up, made and had great friends. I can remember my Father telling me when I was a teenager that if I had five good friends that stood by me all through my life I would be a happy and successful man. At the time he said that, I had exactly that, five great friends. I now still know these but are not as close as I would like to be.We have grown apart by distance, families, interest, and differences. If people are not under the definition of friends for life, they are or become merely acquaintances. Acquaintances are those you know and know about, but don't really know.

Book Description
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. —John 6:35 Have you ever wished you had a recipe for the Christian life you could whip up with results pleasing to God? You know, one of those “step one ... step two ... now add to ...” recipes? Well, there is! The Lord has, through the apostle Peter in his letters to the church, given to each person a step-by-step recipe; He even supplies the key ingredients. Jesus offers you the Bread of Life and the gift of faith to receive it. That gift of salvation and faith starts you off on the right track and keeps you there if you remember to stir it (2 Tim. 1:6). In He Calls Me Friend, I draw on the custom of offering friendship bread to new neighbors to explain the spiritual truths found in 2 Peter 1. Just as in the physical recipe of friendship bread, the starter—a key ingredient supplied by the potential friend—is vital; you cannot go any further without it. The apostle Peter outlines three things Jesus gives to each new Christian: grace, faith, and precious promises. These make up the starter for the spiritual recipe. Peter encourages you the believer to add to this virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and last but not least, charity. These seven ingredients make up the rest of the recipe. New believers will benefit from this step-by-step outline of what being a true friend of Christ involves. The book will also encourage women of any age group who are established in the faith to grow spiritually stronger. Following the recipe with care, they will be able to not only serve the sweet bread of heaven in their own home but have enough to share with neighbors they meet along the way.

Book Description
Dr. Perkins’ final manifesto on race, faith, and reconciliation We are living in historic times. Not since the civil rights movement of the 60s has our country been this vigorously engaged in the reconciliation conversation. There is a great opportunity right now for culture to change, to be a more perfect union. However, it cannot be done without the church, because the faith of the people is more powerful than any law government can enact. The church is the heart and moral compass of a nation. To turn a country away from God, you must sideline the church. To turn a nation to God, the church must turn first. Racism won't end in America until the church is reconciled first. Then—and only then—can it spiritually and morally lead the way. Dr. John M. Perkins is a leading civil rights activist today. He grew up in a Mississippi sharecropping family, was an early pioneer of the civil rights movement, and has dedicated his life to the cause of racial equality. In this, his crowning work, Dr. Perkins speaks honestly to the church about reconciliation, discipleship, and justice... and what it really takes to live out biblical reconciliation. He offers a call to repentance to both the white church and the black church. He explains how band-aid approaches of the past won't do. And while applauding these starter efforts, he holds that true reconciliation won't happen until we get more intentional and relational. True friendships must happen, and on every level. This will take the whole church, not just the pastors and staff. The racial reconciliation of our churches and nation won't be done with big campaigns or through mass media. It will come one loving, sacrificial relationship at a time. The gospel and all that it encompasses has always traveled best relationally. We have much to learn from each other and each have unique poverties that can only be filled by one another. The way forward is to become "wounded healers" who bandage each other up as we discover what the family of God really looks like. Real relationships, sacrificial love between actual people, is the way forward. Nothing less will do.

Count It All Joy

Count It All Joy PDF Author: John M Perkins

Pages : 121

Book Description
Can joy come from suffering? We think of suffering as the worst of all evils. Our culture tells us to avoid it at all costs. But can suffering produce growth in us when we learn to endure it . . . then value it . . . then allow God to redeem it? John Perkins’ response to suffering at the hands of a white sheriff in a Mississippi jail became the springboard that God used to put him in front of U.S. presidents, international politicians, and evangelical church leaders. Perkins sees endurance in suffering as a virtue that makes us more like Christ and ultimately produces uncommon joy in the heart of the sufferer who trusts in Him. Christ walked the path of love all the way to the cross, and even in the midst our brokenness, we can do the same. In Count It All Joy, you will be encouraged to lean into suffering when it comes your way, stand alongside others who suffer, and believe that God will repurpose your suffering according to His good plan. God doesn’t intend your life to be free of all suffering. Instead, He wants you trust Him in the midst of it and discover the unexpected joy that trials can produce.
