We literally lost ourselves between each line, creating and working, and in perfect unison to the other. This work is unashamedly poignant, honest, passionate, and thought-provoking.

This book is the compilation of both authors' perspectives described through poetry. Although we have never physically met, our connection is one of higher plateau; a connection of a two individuals from different backgrounds but essentially the same experience-the experience of a black man and woman. This book was birthed out of online interaction and divine inspiration, out of the recognition of pure talent and a desire of ours to have our voices heard. It is our hope that this book be an inspiration, an eye-opener, and a true experience to all who read it. This work of ours speaks about love, passion, longing, as well as difficult issues such as abortion, domestic violence, and even slavery. This book is coming from our hearts, it is a song set to our beat, it is a sonnet to those with no voice, it is our love for our people and each other placed in black and white. From Ronald to Donald

From Ronald to Donald PDF Author: Edwin G. Oswald
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 1476650624
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 277

Book Description
On November 4, 1980, American voters gave Ronald Reagan a 41-state Electoral College landslide. The man this mandate carried into the White House was largely compounded of mythology. Like most compelling mythologies, Reagan's was a synthesis of celebrity as well as emotional, intellectual, and cultural streams. Throughout his eight years in the oval office, the "Great Communicator" was largely successful in shaping the soul of America to reflect his durable mantra that "government is the problem." That same American soul later embraced Donald Trump--a president who, the authors argue, would have appalled Reagan. Reagan's myth persists, and by understanding his time in office in the context of American history and of the American presidency, we can understand how a transformative president created more than policy by also shaping culture with the instrumental force of mythology. This book attempts to neither praise nor bury Reagan but to explain him in non-partisan terms of contemporary popular mythology. The authors examine his legacy in his war on "big government," which still drives politics, economic policy, and culture, even in Trump's era. They make the case that understanding the mythology at work is a necessary step toward healing American politics and saving American democracy.

Christian Socialism

Christian Socialism PDF Author: Philip Turner
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1725259427
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 179

Book Description
Christian Socialism is a movement that arose in England in the mid-nineteenth century and continues into the twenty-first century. This form of socialism was aimed, in the first instance, not at institutional reform or the nationalization of the means of production but at what its proponents viewed as the moral rot that lay at the foundation of first industrial and then digital society. They opposed what we call neoliberalism and what was then known as political economy because supporters of these ideologies believed that moral convictions had no proper place in the operation of markets. This conviction rested upon the false belief that people are essentially selfish, competitive individuals seeking personal happiness. The aim of Christian Socialists was to replace this "rotten" moral foundation with another based on the view that people are social and cooperative by nature rather than competitive. Their goal was nothing less than a new society built not upon selfishness and aggression but upon social virtues such as equality, fellowship, cooperation, service, and justice. They did not deny the presence of selfishness; however, they believed that the social nature of humankind lies deeper than egotism and conflict, and they sought a society built upon this belief.
